Jurassic Park for 3 year olds?

I would let Holly watch it if she wanted to. I know that a few years ago there is no way she would have watched it as she is a very sensitive child and she was scared of dinosaurs for a long time, but it's something that she finds more interesting as time has gone on.
I think that it depends on the individual child whether it would be suitable for them or not.

The new one is one of Ollie's favourite films and he loves dinosaurs so I voted yes. But only if me or Steven are with him. He doesn't seem to find it scary at all and tbh I didn't think twice about it!

Matilda - 9yrs+ Really!?
Chronicles of Narnia "Lion the witch and the wardrobe" - 9yrs+ Really!?
Wizard of Oz - 6yrs+ Really!?

I think these are soooo silly!

They do seem OTT! My neice was scared of wizard of oz at age 5 though, I guess they are pretty cautious and recommendations based on the most sensitive children?

I look at the parent and kid review sections for each movie. Think the age from those sections is the average from all the reviews.

I tend to look on a site that tells you why something has a particular certificate because I think the current rating system is flawed (Luke finding the hurt bodies of his aunt and uncle (Star Wars) is U but Paddington is PG because there is a hint at sexual harassment in one scene - not downplaying sexual harassment but wondering why burnt bodies are OK).

My LO loved Princess Bride at 3yrs old but now at 5yrs she finds it scary! So I think it is about knowing your child and paying attention to their reactions while a film is on.

i dont think they are at all.Lots of movies just have themes that are more understandable for 9 or ten year olds. What does a 3 year old understand of school and 9 year old problems? while it doesnt harm the child it may just confuse it or just watch it because it is a film. so many films hat dont have physical violence but emotional which a small kid wont understand. I am the same with oh putting on some preteen programming on for lo and why? Not all kids prgramming is just for kids it is for different ages.

well the rec screen time for 3 year olds is 0.5 h .

Oh buggar! My two have seen all those films and Joshua has read Matilda & Narnia....

Both of mine have watched Jurassic Park (original and the newer ones). They were happy watching them and loved the newest one....Jacob wanted a Velociraptor after watching it

Paiges favourites include those films, plus Jurassic Park (all of them) and the Maze Runner and Maze runner:Scorch trials (which are both 12s. Shoot me down!)

Totally dependant on the child, you know yourself what they are able to handle and what they will enjoy.

I took Paige to see the new jungle book film (in 3d) and that was pretty scary but she loved it! Just checked the website and it says 9+ for that also!

Yeah my two have watched the new Jungle Book. They really enjoyed it.

I've just checked some of Joshua's current/recent reading books (The Hobbit, LOTR, The Book Thief, Eragon), all of which are 9years+ but he thoroughly enjoyed The Hobbit and The Book Thief. He does have a high level of understanding, if I got him a book based on their recommendations for his age, he'd be bored stiff!

My kids have watched the older Jurassic Park movies. They both loved them. I didn't take them to see the new one, because DH and I wanted to see it first to review content before deciding if they can watch it. I think its scarier/more violent than the first 3, so we'll probably wait a few years on the new one. I'm honestly shocked at how many people found them to be such scary movies. The original movies I NEVER viewed as scary, even as a kid when they came out. I've always loved them. Anyways, I wouldn't ever choose a movie like Jurassic Park to show when kids other than my own were over, without having permission first. I do get that other parents don't always feel the same about movie content.

No way! Never. I believe kids should watch age appropriate - no violence etc. There are soooo many awesome kids shows now, why show them anything else?? They have the rest of their lives to see them...

Toddlers and preschooler in the US watch an average of 32 hours of TV per week. In the UK it's 31 hours. How sad is that. That's a 'full time' job of their young minds passively watching, bypassing their wonderful imagination and curiosity!

We take a different approach - we watch zero TV in our house! None, zilch, nada. Just not in our habits, no time for it, etc. So our kids watch none either. We play the occasional video game when they're in bed. No judgement from me, each to their own but I just find it a waste of time, it breeds laziness and I think screen time is bad for kids, period.

My son is sensitive and anxious, heck he cried while watching cars at 4 and I had to stop it O.o he likes scary books though, because he can peek in them slooowly *chuckles*

I think the commonsense media list is just fine! Narnia would still be far too scary for him. I think kids get desensitized by being around loud TVs all the time, often with no one watching...

My kids get the occasional 15 minute episode of 'guess how much I love you' and 'Stella and sam' on youtube but that's it. A big treat is playing on the tablet during a long carride - puzzles and worldbuilding (machinarium, marble mazes, terraria etc) hey still know and love all the classics, spiderman, dinosaurs etc from books and games. And going to grandma is a big treat to them because she has cable and treehouse and they get to watch ;)

nah i dont see a need for it. i remember wanting to watch scary movies and pretending i was fine with it, then having horrible nightmares.

mine seems to have a really good grasp of real and pretend as she makes the distinction in play and conversation, and still finds things scary, tge land before time was her fave movie last spring and now she wants it turned off. sharp tooth, the mom dying is upsetting she just wants to watch things that are happy and funny. her standbys are MLP and little bear

I think whatever your choice about showing it to your own kids is the fact that about 70% of mums on the poll said they wouldn't show it to their own 3 year old is enough to show it wouldn't be right to put on for someone else's kids without making sure it was okay with their parents first.

Totally child-dependent I think.

My four-year-old DS is too sensitive to even watch The Lion King so he would absolutely not be okay with it.

My two-year-old DD is a firecracker and would probably find the dinosaurs hilarious. She loves being "scared" and acting "scary".

That said, I have no intention of showing anything like this to either of them until they're at least 6 or 7.
