Just curious, do any of you drink?

I have chosen not to drink while pregnant. I didn't drink with my two boys, and this time feel no different about my choice.

I like a drink, but wouldn't touch it at the moment.

I went out last night to a Jamaican night, and stuck to mango juice! I won't be drinking when I'm breastfeeding either.

As a rule I respect other peoples right to make decisions about their body/baby, but when it comes to alcohol and smoking when pregnant, sorry, I just don't get it.

De ja vu :haha: only had this convo the other day!!

Anyway, for meI have not completely abstained from drinking, but I have probably had 5 units over my entire pregnancy. I have never really drunk at home and don't now and have only drunk on occasions such as weddings/birthday parties, even then it was half a shandy which was about a quarter of a unit and half a small glass of wine with soda water, again about half a unit.

Most of the time I drink non alcoholic beer or that Schloer stuff but I am not so keen. People buy it for me so I can "pretend" to drink from a wine glass. that to me is a bit sad if you need to pretend to drink. If you're not drinking your not drinking, it's all the same whatever glass it's in :D

I wanted to reply to the original question the other day and now I wish I had because I feel like the thread has spun off into a debate now. Which is pointless, really, because no one is going to change anyone else's mind - or maybe I am not giving message board land enough credit.

ANYWAY. To answer the original post, no, I do not drink when pregnant or breast feeding - last time that was a three-year stretch. This time around, who knows how long the breast feeding will go. But I will also admit that I am not a big drinker, at least not since I've been out of college. So not drinking isn't much of a sacrifice.

BTW, I am originally from Eastern Europe and drinking while pregnant is highly frowned upon. I don't really know if anyone - even from my mother's generation - who indulged in alcohol while pregnant. Here in the U.S., the rules on alcohol are pretty explicit. The only caveat is that at the very very end of pregnancy, a glass of red wine is often suggested - even by doctors - as a one way to bring on labor.

No, not much of a drinker anyway but definitely not while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Me neither :nope:

But im looking forward to a drink when bubs arrives to celebrate!! :D

I dont. Mostly because the rule about it keeps changing so i just wont bother risking it. Mmm alcohol... I miss it! But ill have as much as i like after baby is here. (depending on breastfeeding!)

Answering the original post .. before i fell pregnant with my 1st child i liked to have a drink when out socialising with friends but as soon as i found out i was pregnant i didnt touch another drop .. i sooo looked forward to having my baby so that i could have a drink to celebrate with friends, but when the time came i just didnt fancy it and i havent had another drop since he was born 5yrs ago and i am 20 weeks pregnant now with my 2nd child and the thought doesnt enter my head :)

When i was pregnant with my son the midwife told me that alchol was ok if limited but this time around i was told told that they prefer you to be drink free - which i personally agree with 100% as its just not worth the risk to your babies health...

i always think that the adult has the choice to drink or not - the baby has no choice !!

I've had the occasional VERY small glass of wine, and i am quite proud not to of had more than that as before i fell pregnant i loved wine. I dont think it feels right though, i feel guilty after i've drank it. So will probably not have any more now until bubs is here, unless she stays put until after xmas, as i would quite like to have a glass of wine with xmas dinner, although i don't think she would mind that as much as the amount of food will dilute it ha

I went to a day at the races with some friends and had half a glass of pink champagne and promptly threw up!

Baby says no to alcohol! lol

Haven't drunk since.
