How far was the beach?

I guess it depends how busy beach would be. if its surrounded by family resorts its unlikely to have many people on it at night

Seems odd then. Gerry goes to check them. He supposedly gets spotted carrying Maddie away. The next person doesn't check properly and then the next person who checks is Kate who finds the bed empty. Makes me wonder though, if Gerry DID find her dead in the apartment and he decided to dispose of her and make up this story, did he go back to the tapas bar and not tell Kate, who then genuinely believed she had been taken until her husband had time to tell her the truth? Her reaction always puzzled me but I suppose that could be down to shock and panic

But did they really check? Bit convenient Jane Tanner came out afterwards saying she saw a man carrying a child. If noone else did go to check noone would of known until Gerry went, took her to the beach (which according to Google is a 2 minute walk) came back and then Kate staged her going to check. None of the timing adds up anyway. They said the Police weren't called til 11:50 though they knew she was abducted by 10:40? Did they spend all that time getting their stories straight?

Yeah apparently they all sat and wrote down a timeline. Like Kala said, basically getting their stories straight. It just makes me really sad to think that a parent could do something like that. Karen Matthews was bad enough but at least her child was actually alive in the end. The possibility of that conclusion in this case is very unlikely I think

I read all this and believe one thing but then I look at the website and think.. how could anyone who has done that to their child continue to do fundraisers and petitions to help look for their child? 4 years on no less. Hm.

Wow!! I have a headache reading this thread, it has taken an hour!! It is nice to read this subject with people who actually think the same as me! I have almost always been shot down for believeing they are involved in her death. Just last weekend I stumbled on a website (through Jon Venebles ID being public!I read random stuff on the net when bored!!) that had the translation of the amaral book and was reading loads again..

Something that did cross my mind whilst reading though.. MAYBE that Jane Tanner was telling the truth when she saw someone walking with a child. That child was Madeleine and the person carrying her was the person they paid to remove the body. Tanner doesn't know whats gone on with Madeiline and Gerry see's it, but pretends he doesn't to confuse everyone. Not sure if this little theory makes sense really.

I understand that there is server lack of evidence, but I can't believe no-one thinks the information is enough to even arrest them on suspicion (not having a body doesn't matter) But now evidence has been destroyed and the public know too much.

Really is a horrid horrid tale.

I am so confident that they were involved I will eat my baby if it turns out it was an abduction

I really have no sympathy for her... Why would you leave your babies in a room in a foreign country while you went off galavanting! I feel sorry for madeliene having a mother like that who allowed this to happen, if she was looking after her kids like she shouldve been..

No, because there's no proof she has been harmed.

Although they were visited by SS when they returned to the UK ... who's to know if the twins are/were on the at risk register

They said they'd locked the doors until the investigation found there was no sign of forced entry so they must have been open, they then changed their minds and said they had infact been left unlocked

So why would the investigation team think the 'abductor' had entered through the little bedroom window?

The investigators never thought the abductor had entered through the window - it was the McCanns who said that ....initially they claimed to relatives that the doors were locked and the window shutters had been 'jemmied open' and that's what the relatives told the media. Later of course it came out that there was no sign of forced entry (or indeed any signs of any intruder) and they changed their story

There's a whole load of photos of the apartment here https://www.mccannfiles.com/id21.html ... it's also got a lot of photo's at ground level showing just how far away the apartment was from the bar, so it gives you a really accurate picture.

I doubt in the dark aswell they wouldnt notice it, exspesh when the attention would be to what he is carrying xx

Yet she managed to notice that the child's pyjamas had pink flowers on them? She's not very consistent is Ms Tanner

You've bought up some very interesting points Jem.

Firstly with regard to Jane Tanner ... she claims that she saw and walked past Gerry McCann talking to another guest (Jeremy Wilkins) just before she saw the man carrying the child - yet both Mr Wilkins and Gerry McCann claim that they didn't see her ... on a narrow street? https://gazetadigitalmadeleinecase.blogspot.com/2007/10/one-more-witness-contradicts-jane.html

Dear God ... I've had a quick flick through the screenshots in the Police case note and there is just so much there it's impossible to find quickly - and I've got to leave for work I'll carry on looking when I get a moment and post it when I find it
