Kate McCann releasing a book...

Wow! There are a lot of perfect Mothers on here!
Would any of you judge Sara Payne for letting her little girl Sarah go out to play in a field?
How about Casey Mullen? She was at home and her uncle murdered her with her Mum downstairs.
My point is that be your child at home in your arms or in another room, house anywhere.. things can happen. You cannot watch your child at all times.
Yes, Madeleine was left unattended .. a lot of children are. I have been wondering what it may be like for Kate to perhaps stumble across these posts, after all she is a Mum and may already be a member on here! I cant imagine the sheer agony of reading such uncaring, judgemental posts.
I have said before and I will say again... NO ONE can punish themselves more than they already do.
As a parent you can be distracted, tired, frustrated, even just simply switch off and not think about the consequences. We are only human.. being a Mum does not suddenly make you perfect.
I think that just maybe some people on here should just take a step back and just imagine for one second what this family have and are still going through.

I understand where you are coming from but they left their 3 children unnatended on a nightly basis. That isnt a mistake that is neglect and whilst yes they may punish themselves for that for the rest of their lives IMO they should have been punished through the courts as well.

If this was a 18 year old single mother she would have had the book thrown at her

Agreed!!

I remember not long after this case there was a lady in Darlington (I think?) single mum left her daughter in the bath with the window open for a minute on her ground floor flat while she popped into the next room to get a towel or something for her. The little one was snatched through the window. I think the lady was a single mum living in a council estate and Im pretty sure I remember her getting a charge for child abandonment or something like that... if not I certainly remember a lot of bad press against her for leaving the bathroom window open.

If it had been someone better off or in a more 'acceptable' position would have been a lot different.

They should have been taken through the courts IMO. Yes they might be suffering for loosing Maddy but who knows what the poor little girl has gone/going through? Its not the parents I feel any sympathy for. They knew the risks of leaving their kids in that room, they chose to ignore them. They put her at risk. I can't excuse it

I don't think it's a case of anyone being "perfect". Everyone makes MISTAKES. However, as many have already said, a mistake is turning your back when your baby is on the sofa and them rolling off, turning your back for a moment in a shop and having your child abucted and killed (I'd never read the details of the James Bulger case as I was young when it happened but I have just been crying & shaking for 20 minutes having read the facts on Wiki) or trusting your uncle with your child in the Casey Mullen case.

Making a concious decision to leave you children unattended in a room while you selfishly go for dinner is NOT a mistake. That is neglectful and the fact they have not had to go through the courts regarding that is poor.

None of us KNOW what happened. We can only make up our own minds based on our own parental instincts and the "facts" available. IF they are innocent then yes, they are being punished... but not through the courts and they should be. Any punishment in the courts would not compare to the punishment they are already experiencing for sure, however it will make the handling of the case of neglect fair and just.

Most of us are going to judge the McCanns because the whole concept of leaving a child unattended is so foreign and seems so selfish an act.

Comparing Maddies parent's behaviour to that of James Bulger etc is really insulting to them. We all get distracted at times... but there is such a big difference between getting distracted and making a choice to leave your child alone

Completely agree. It us not about being judgemental or superior but questioning a very poor parenting decision. This was not a mum who was overwhelmed and an accident happened. These are intelligent, educated people who left their children alone so they could socialise, despite this having already distressed the kids before. Had this been a group of single parents then you bet they would have been done for neglect.

I think its a desperately sad situation, i cant imagine what they've had to go through - be it their own fault or not. :(

Haven't read the entire thread but i know someone who stays at the same resort they were at. The restaurant they went to the evening Madeline disappeared is at least 5/10min walk from the apartment they were staying at! He showed me the route on google earth.

What sane person leaves their children for that length of time let alone that far away.

I think they are guilty.

I panic of im in the kitchen and River is in the garden. How could these well educated people leave their kids unattended that far away!

Also their hotel had a nanny service that they didnt use :nope:

I don't get how you can justify their behaviour by saying they went into 'holiday mode' - we took Stephen to Tenerife when he was 4 months old and trust me I didn't get a chance to relax and not for one second was he left on his own whilst we went out, or went to get a drink by the pool or when we went for dinner etc - he came with us or someone stayed in with him! Going on holiday isn't really a time for relaxation when you have small children, it's a lot more stressful and when it's a place you are not familiar with you should be extra cautious!!!

Plus, it has been said in reports (and by Kate McCann's own father) they gave their children calpol/mild sedatives to keep them calm that night they went out. Why? Because they knew they were wrong leaving children on their own with no supervision and because they knew how distressed it made 2 of the children the previous night. I can't imagine how it must have felt waking up the night before and realising their parents aren't anywhere in the room!

And to the comment about us all being perfect parents .... no one is perfect but it's common sense not to go out for dinner and leave 3 children on their own.

Charliekeys - I heard the same thing about the sedatives. I think they both gave her a dose without realising the other one had already done it, but i do believe it was more than just calpol.

Not sure we will ever find out the truth.

i am amazed thay anyone thinks this case is comparable with that of James Bulger. totally different circumstances.

it also amazes me how many people are quick to read a link and believe every word it says  while of course there are many questionable points to this case, the website linked to 'the madeleine foundation' is a badly put together unprofessional looking mess. there are no official contact details, it has a mobile number and a gmail webased email address, yet everyone has gone on and believed evrything they have said

that doesnt mean i am a fan of the mccanns, and something is definately amiss with the whole thing, they were also worse than stupid for leaving thoses little ones alone and should have been dragged through the courts for it

wow, that photo is really shocking, did they go to both places circled? Is their apartment right next to a road? Bit hard to tell x

I think the other circle is where that weird guy that got questioned was living/staying at the time?

Yeah, they'd prob get sued if they did leave a name and contact details. Don't really blame them.

Lora yes that is a road running along side it

thats my whole point, who dont you blame? could be a 15 year old with too much time on their hands for all we know

ok i get that it isnt, but its just what im getting at, people are so very quick to believe an unreliable link with no source

It does shock me, i suppose over time you forget the little thangs that all all up on that '50 reasons' list When we went on holiday, Amys cot was right next to the patio doors, but even when we sat on the balcony at night we sat with the door open so we could see and hear her. But at the same time, i just cant imagine that any parents, who even accidently killed their child, wouldnt be hysterical  If I accidently killed my child (god forbit) my first thought wouldnt be to hide the body it woud be to see if they could save her and then I'd WANT to be punished, I'd want to pay for the rest of my life. Oh I dont know, none of it really adds up if they did or didnt do it, does it. I hope that we get answers one day. I hope she is alive, but i dont think she is :nope:

I think she is alive, I think it would be a lot harder to cover up a dead childs body for so many years. I think she is alive just hope she is ok wherever she is :(

Part of me thinks she is still alive because bodies usually get found iykwim but then a really sad part thinks if she was kidnapped maybe its better if she isnt alive because of the possibiltys of what she could be going through.

Its a horrible world to live in when part of you hopes a little girl is dead because given the alternatives at least shes not in pain

agree with you 100% there, awful isnt it

I hope some nut just took her cause they wanted a kid to love and not for any other reason and shes happy and well looked after. i think she's dead though.
