Kate McCann releasing a book...

Well once you start it is difficult to stop, and also (I hate writing this, it feels wrong) the Madeline fund is not a charity and therefore doesn't have the same restrictions, the money has been used for things like mortgage payments, legal fees in libel cases that they took out, the wages of some family members who left their jobs to work on the fund days after she went missing and so on. So cynical people might say that publicity creates public interest, public interest creates funds.

I didn't realise it wasn't an actual charity.

If it was them, I don't get why? I mean they went through ivf to have her.

If its true they went jogging/ playing tennis in the days after she went missing, then something's odd there.

Surely if they are guilty/know what happened, they'd want the publicity to die down, not create more?

I can't help but feel that the memories of her disappearance (I believe they were involved, was all an awful accident and they are covering it up etc) have been pushed so far into Kates subconscious that she actually now believes that they weren't involved/aren't at fault and are now searching for answers; mythomania or some related disorder. From watching videos and hearing their answers to questions, Gerry seems to be in complete control of the situation, Kate seems very controlled. I think he's pushed her so far she now has these 'believing her own lies' disorder. Gerry however seems like he knows exactly what's going on and always has done. Drawing attention to themselves so people don't point the accusatory finger at them. He knows what he's doing, and he really scares me. That's what I've come to think after the last couple of years of reading into this whole case anyway.

This is a really interesting view!

I second that

Not many people do realise it isn't a charity.

As for why, well there are some theories I have read of murder, plans even before they left etc but by far the opinion I read the most is that it was an accident and then everything after that was done to protect their life (with the other children, their jobs and the like).

I don't know about Tennis, but yes they went for a jog along the cliff tops a couple of days after Maddie went missing. The photos were in the media and they said they needed to clear their minds. If you've read this thread then you will of seen my opinion is very much of the accident covered up variety but I don't blame them for going for a run, shock makes you do odd things, I went shopping to Tesco and was clothes shopping whilst Riley Rae was still in my tummy, after I had found out she had died. It's odd to me now but like I said shock makes you do odd things.

I feel exactly the same, every interview they do he seems to do all the talking. she just sits and barely says a thing. she is very controlled.

I do think its a big leap from saying he does all the talking and she sits back, to saying she is very controlled. It could just be her manner. I feel certain in our relationship I do most of the talking an probably would if we were in public. I can assure you mr foo is far from controlled!!

I do far less talking in my relationship with OH. Mainly because he's such a good talker and knows exactly what to say and how to deal with any situation, I'm too emotional and come out with all kinds of emotional truths that can get me in trouble so, depending on who we are talking to, I tend to keep my mouth firmly shut. I gauge that it's the same way with them so I guess we have this in common with the McCanns. However that's where our similarities end, LOL

I agree with all this. I think the more now they draw attention the more its turning, facebook is full of things against them and I aint seen any one defending them where as a few years ago I was being even defriended and accused of being horrible for doubting them.

What is CHARGE syndrome? Ive never heard of that before!

Not many people have, the occurrence rate is 1 in every 10 - 12,000 babies worldwide

CHARGE Syndrome is a genetic condition which affects many of the bodies systems. The letters of CHARGE stand for all the different areas which can be affected. The Cleft in Madelines eye is known as a coloboma. The C in CHARGE stands for coloboma. H for heart, A for Atresia (blockage) of the nasal bone, R restriction of growth, G genital or urinary defects. E ear or hearing problems. Its a spectrum disorder so a person could show some or all of these features but all to varying degrees.

If you wanted to find out more there is a link to the syndromes foundation page in my signature

I think the gave her some kind of sedative. That's either how she was kidnapped without making a noise, or the parents gave her too much sedative and she died. Either way, I think they sedated her do they could go out for food. As a doctor there would have been easy access to stuff like that.
The more you hear, the more narsasstic they come across :-(

I couldn't leave the house to shop after my oh died let alone be able to jog after my child went missing. God they make me sick.

I too believe they believe their own lies.
My nan used to beat the crap out of my mum and when my mum years later asked why, my nan asked why my mum was lying about such a horrible thing.
She really believed her own lies.

I've read a lot of this thread and think some of the links make very interesting reading, such as the cadaver dogs picking up a scent, and their flimsy excuses for why this might be. I also agree with the one article that said they should be supporting the NSPCC in their campaign to not leave young children alone for a moment, if they're innocent and this is all they're guilty of (which in my opinion is still inexcusable) then surely they'd want to try to make amends by telling other parents of what can happen if you do what they did? Instead they downplay their share of the blame, which, if you ask me, is the biggest part anyone can be blamed for. If she was abducted (which I find doubtful), her parents should have never put her in a position where she was vulnerable to such a thing happening.

As for people saying they've paid the terrible price for their stupidity, I have to disagree, Madeline paid the price. Not them. They're free to carry on their lives, the question is, is she? I personally believe she died in that apartment, and that is the real tragedy here.

This. This a thousand times.

I'm not sure any parent who loses a child is "free to carry on their life" really. Of course Madeleine is the victim, but to suffer losing a child is something that lives with you forever. Sure, they were a part of the reason she disappeared and I do find it strange they won't admit to their wrongdoing but I can't help feeling they've been advised to as it is a very unusual step. Maybe its because I just can't believe someone would actually defend their own actions in this situation. I'm just not comfortable with saying they deserved it. I'm not comfortable with saying any loving parent deserves to lose a child.

I don't think they deserved it but i do think from day 1 they have never acted as parents who lost a child.

Do you think the police think they are guilty? I have been reading the mcann files and with what i read i dont see how they can just think she was abducted. The weight of evidence by the portugese police really does suggest that she did die in the apartment and the whole abduction was infact staged. If they do suspect them, then why the crimewatch programme? Why the search now? Is it for political mileage?

I really think that our police and the McCanns take offence to the portuguese accusing two britons of a crime like this, especially two well off britons with good jobs.

Totally agree with that. There is the suggestion that they have connections with quite powerful people too.
