I really think that our police and the McCanns take offence to the portuguese accusing two britons of a crime like this, especially two well off britons with good jobs.

Totally agree with that. There is the suggestion that they have connections with quite powerful people too.

They HAVE to have connections with very high up and powerful people, otherwise who is protecting them, and why?? I think the web of lies is so far spun that those who have helped the Mccanns through this thus far just have to keep going. There are far too many people involved now with their jobs, their livelihoods and basically their necks on the line to start back tracking now. Makes me so mad.

Or maybe our police are certain the Portuguese police bungled the investigation. Certainly much of their "evidence" has been discredited. But given the stretched resources of the police, I don't think they would be keen to investigate if they felt the job had been done. Here's another angle though. The efit apparently looks like Gerry McCann (although also looks like that ex BBC sports reporter bloke who now does watchdog ), the fact they have a new timeline - maybe they do suspect the McCanns and they are now just reeling them in.....

A couple of other things that get me though. This insistence that the media only were so interested because of their social status, I just don't buy that. Just weeks after there was that other girl, Shannon Matthews that went missing and the story was huge. There wasn't much difference in the press coverage right up til the point she was found and the whole sorry story unfolded. Thinking back over the decades, there have been a few of these high profile cases and they are big news no matter what the background.

But the other thing that confuses me is the fact crimewatch apparently took over a thousand calls and have some significant new leads. Where the hell have these people been for six years?? Is there anyone on the planet who didn't know the story?

I can barely remember the things I saw on my way home today never mind a holiday from 6 years ago :S

I don't think the police can think the new E-fit is Gerry. The sightings of this man were down near the centre heading towards the beach at around 10pm. They were busy finding and reporting the disappearance at 10pm. I would assume there were officers with Gerry at that point in time thus providing him an alibi for this sighting.

I would assume that too. I'm surprised how many people have jumped to the "he did it" conclusion based on what is a fairly average description of a bloke.

I do believe they did it though, albeit accidental.

So there I am yesterday walking mindlessly through town and in WHSmith window I see a big advert for a book by Kate McCann simply called 'Madeleine'.

I am not too sure what to think of this, especially as the case is still unsolved and I just really am not sure as to why the McCann's have decided to do this, whether it be to produce revenue for the Find Madeline fund, or to increse publicity and remind people that she is still missing (althought I think just about everybody in the country knows).

What are your thoughts on this?

My thoughts are, and I've read a lot on this case, the parents were and are complicit in their daughter's disappearance and as such, I have as little to do with giving them and their crocodile tears any attention whatsoever.

I keep coming back to this thread trying to work out if, lets say for a minute it was Gerry who was carrying her how did he have the time and how did the others not notice? There's a few theories going round that they're all in on it and have made a pact or whatever bu surely all of then couldn't keep it up for six whole years, I know I would've cracked with guilt by now.

They where offered help by some and they turned it down.

He said using his daughters eye (cant remember name of it) was a "good marketing ploy" despite police saying not to draw attention to that if she was kidnapped that would put her in more danger. She went full steam ahead with it .
