--Lion Cubs - Mummy and Baby Group!-- We are all One Year Old!

Jesse is going to have a yummy dinner tonight! I bet he'll eat more when feeding himself. I buy puree prunes and pears to feed Kira for the poop issue, and most of the time she refuses to eat if I try to spoon them in, but if I leave the spoon laying there, she'll quickly pick it up and shove it in her mouth... although sometimes she puts in the wrong end :haha:

Well 2 weeks after figuring out how to crawl, Kira is now pulling up on everything! She has no fear so I've been hovering around her all day ready to catch her and despite this, we've still had some head bangs :dohh: She'll even try pulling up on my legs! How long until she gets less wobbly on her feet??

I converted 1 cabinet in the kitchen to a "play" cabinet so she'll entertain herself by pulling everything out for a few minutes so I can get a few things done. I also have a drawer in the bathroom that is safe for her too, so when I pee, she sits there and pulls out packages of tampons, etc. :haha:

lmao i sit jesse on the floor in the hallway so he can see me when i pee and we play 'clap hands' lol

he ate about half a chicken steak, sucked a few cucumber and tomato bits and just messed about with the potato corn etc he loves chicken though so i had a feeling he'd go straight for that,

he normally takes his bedtime food though rusks or porridge, and he will eat a pretty big bowl so im hoping that will fill him up before bedtime and he doesnt suffer too much from not eating lots of dinner!

i think were going to give him food to feed himself with most dinner times now and see how he gets on

today so far he has eaten

plain biscuit
1slice of toast with cheese spread on
full packet of quavers
chocolate digestive
half a crispy chicken steak
bit of cucumber and tomato

im going to give him some watermelon before his bath then he will have his porridge before bed, does that sound like too little ? he just would not take anything spoon fed today! x

that sounds like im constantly feeding him junk food :dohh: im not its just that we only went shopping this afternoon so we were pretty much out of any fresh fruit or veg which he normally has!! x

Emma's feeding is different every day. I can't really pin it down to one thing because she eats whatever we eat. I usually just give her cheerios or an unsalted rice cake for breakfast with a banana typically but some mornings I'm in the mood to full blown cook and she has had pancakes, eggs, omelets, really whatever I feel like in that moment. :D She gets booby before and after every meal because they say milk is what they really need and the food is just for play right now. Although she does eat quite a bit of food too. This kid is always hungry I swear. She eats constantly. For lunch I usually just give cheese, sliced chicken, toast with puree spread. Things like that. I never feel like cooking around lunchtime so what she gets is usually cold and quick. Dinner is different every night. We had ribs last night with corn and potatoes. Tonight I plan on making little pizzas that I got out of a kids recipe book. She loves mushrooms so anytime we have pizza I have to load it with mushrooms. :haha: We really don't give her fruit very often. It's usually veggies that we give her. I have no idea why. Well except the banana in the morning. All day she wants booby and has little 'snacks'. She hasn't really cut out her milk feeds yet. Which I'm actually thankful for but some days it is tiring.

So we have our first lion cub walker if you guys didn't notice on facebook Heidi's little Caylee is walking already!!:shock: I wonder who's next!! Emma now refuses to walk behind her walker thing so I think she's out for sure now.

Adam's eating is going pretty well... some days he is a hungry monster, other days he's not so keen, but I figure the great days balance out the poor days.

So, his routine is thus:

when he gets up, I offer a 6oz bottle (Aptamil stage 1) and he usually takes 4-5oz.

after 45ish mins I offer breakfast - cereal and fruit. right now it's Weetabix with natural yogurt (milk makes it too soggy for him to pick up) or mini shredded wheats with milk or leftover formula. plus some of whatever fruit we have in that's ripe - pear, peach, plum, satsuma, grapes, blueberries, raspberries. not really banana very much, he doesn't seem overly keen. and he doesn't like strawberries. he used to have porridge (just normal oats cooked in some formula) but he went off that. and I tried him on some Aptamil cereal for 7mo+ - it is the only "baby" food other than snack items that he's had and he was NOT keen, even when mixed with something else. he feeds himself - I put some on a spoon and hand it to him or sometimes I put it on the table directly and let him get on with it.

before lunch - offer another bottle of formula. he might take none or up to 5oz.

lunch - either sandwiches, ricecakes, toast, omelette, scrambled eggs or American pancakes. I make cream cheese sandwiches sometimes with fruit spread as well. ricecakes/toast - sometimes plain or with butter, cream cheese, tomato puree and/or cheddar cheese. omelette - I usually squeeze some veg in, spinach, mushrooms, onion, broccoli.

whether or not I offer another bottle before dinner depends on how much he's already had during the day.

dinner - whatever I am making for us. examples: cottage pie, lasagne, grilled chicken and salad, baked potatoes, pasta with chicken or tuna and veg, roast meat (chicken/lamb/beef), fishfingers/fishcakes etc etc. I always put lots of veg in my mince/pasta dishes. and often cook broccoli and grilled courgettes, too. he has yogurt with fresh fruit or semi-dried prunes after (he prefers plain yogurt but has had Yeo Valley baby yogurt and he loves some of the flavours but hates the others :dohh: )

bedtime - another bottle, again he could take up to 5oz but sometimes if he is too tired he refuses it all.

snacks - breadsticks, ricecakes, Organix corn snacks, fruit (blueberries and grapes are his favourites), raisins, Organix date & apple fruit bars, Plum spelt biscuits. he's never had normal crisps, biscuits or chocolate, but he had a small piece of plain sponge birthday cake once. I need to start baking stuff for him and then he can have sweet things without me worrying about the amount of salt and sugar.

have to say I am looking forward to him turning 1 year old so the salt thing is less of an issue.

oh and he has plain water with meals and when he wants a drink. he's never had juice.

GOD - I feel like Riya is not eating enough, looking though your lists.

This is a typical day for Riya

8am Breakfast : Typically a bowl of porridge, half slice of toast with non salted butter (sometimes doesn't eat it though)
9am - 5oz milk bottle
12pm - Lunch is usually a large Hipp Organic jar of noodles, pasta, rice with some sort of meat. Plus a Petit Filous yogurt, accompanied with a sippy cup of water.
1pm - 5oz milk bottle
5pm - Fruit custard jar or fresh kiwi, banana etc
7pm - 8oz milk bottle
7.30pm bed
1am - 5oz millk bottle

Finger foods - Organix carrot sticks, rice cakes, cracker bread etc Nothing sweet like biscuits, chocolate etc.

Looking at it, she hardly eats anything, but usually I have to force the fruit down here at about 5pm as she's not interested. She's always been on the 50 percentile for weight, so I'm not too worried.

I've never given her a food dinner, but now that she's 9 months I guess I need to start. Also this may eliminate her need for milk in the middle of the night which will be good for both of us.

Usually she's spoon fed, but I need to give her more opportunity to feed herself. I just don't like her getting all messy, but I guess that's the only way she will learn and I need to be a bit more relaxed with it. I'm forever cleaning, can't stand a messy, dirty house. Fortunately RIya doesn't suffer from seperation anxiety and doesn't mind the vacuum so I can usually keep up with the cleaning routine daily.

I must say I'm impressed that alot of your LO are eating "regular" meals. I cook alot of spicy food, so I don't think Riya could eat that. For example yesterday I made lasagna and its had salt, herbs & spices which would have been too hot for her. How do you manage, do you cook her food on a side to ensure not too much salt etc.

I'm going to try and give her a more varied diet today and use some of your ideas ladies.

hi all, i dunno if u remember me lol, i was a member of the august mummies last year, i had a lil girl brooke on the 24 august :) well how fast has this 9 months gone!!!!!!! i cant beleive she is 1 in 3 months !!!!! would love to get back in contact with u all again, and get to know how all ur lil ones are doing :) hope to chat soon xxx

hiyerr, i think i remember you! how is your LO? milestones etc!

right well after last night jess refused his porridge before bed and this mornin he refused me feeding him i have decided to just try BLW fully, i dont know if we will manage but i know he will eat if he wants to cus iv seen him

this morning i offered him yoghurt he kept batting the spoon away so put him in his chair put some toast spread with nutella cut into fingers (2small slices) and a piece of watermelon and just carried on tidying up n left him to it, he ate nearly all of the toast and had a good go at the watermelon til he dropped it on the rug and it was full of fluff so had to throw it! hes never had watermelon before and seemed to really enjoy it! im trying to think of something he can have for lunch cus hes already had toast n dunno whether to just give him a sandwich, and fruit, we have some ricecakes though so might try rice cake with cheese and some more fruit, and he usually has what we have for dinner anyway but normally spoonfed,

when you give them stuff like shepards pie etc.. do you just dump it on the tray and let them get on sticking there hands in?
he normally loves my shepards pie and eats it all so im hoping if he figures its the same thing he will eat it?
mm i just shuddering at the thought of the floor after hes thrown food all over it :dohh:

Hello my lovely ladies, sooo nice to see all this lovely chat. I'm off out now but will come and see you all later. Not been on much but will have a big catch up xxxx

brooke is absolutly amazing, am loving every min of her growing up :) she bum shuffles everywhere, its very hard to keep track of her these days lol, she loves her food ( sat eating a ham sandwich and wosits as we type lol )she has got 4 teeth c(2 more trying to push thru ) she has actually been really good with them, a few grumpy days but hey, i would cry too if my teeth were hurting me :) she is starting to pull herself up on furniture now and even attempted the stairs yesterday:S stairgates r needed very shortly!!!!!!, brooke is a very good sleeper , only had about 2 bad nights with her since she was born, so we r very lucky in that way :), hope all ur lil ones r doing well :) lots of special birthdays coming up very soon :D xxx

aww jess has 4 teeth too though i never have let him have a go at the stairs hes starting to pull himself up on other things,

are we all way into planning birthdays now then? im currently trying to sort out jesses cake as we speak! i have his presents planned, and tryna figure out guestlist and write out a present list for people to pick off cus they keep asking me what to get him, then its outfits/decorastions food to think of! i love party planning, iv been planning jesses birthday since before he was born lol!

I've never given Riya much finger food whilst in her highchair as she always been spoon fed.

However today I've been giving her more food which she can eat herself, however she's more interested in the plate instead, flinging the food to the side and then just playing with the plate.

I am going to perservere, but did your LOs start out this way and how long did it take before they actually took the food and put it in their mouths, instead of mashing it in hands, and dropping on floor etc.

I don't have it in me to clean up the mess, so she only really gets things like chips and toast to feed herself. But Riya is probably eating about the same as Imogen, she's still more about milk than food.

jesse just messed about for ages he would eat the odd thing but just at the moment he will eat alot more on his own and not so much if i give it to him, xx

Boothh buy a splash mat to go under Jesse's highchair (we got a Tesco value one for a couple of quid I think) then you can wipe it off after each meal and even put it in the washing machine. It means that when Jesse drops food on floor you can just pick it back up and offer it again. I think it was you asking abaout shepherds pie, yep just put some on the tray and let them dig in with their hands!

TTC lady - we don't put finger food on a plate, just straight on to the tray as the plate is a distraction. As for cooking Sophia loves spicy food (curry is one of her favourites), we do however cook without salt and just add ours before we eat.

Hello mumtobeagain, welcome back  Glad to hear you are enjoying your LO.

As for Sophia and what she eats well it is basically what we do!

e.g yesterday she had
6am booby
7am shredded wheat bitesize with milk (about 8 bits) half a peach, 2 cherries and a banana
11am booby
12pm half a slice of cheese on toast, quarter of an avocado, inch piece of cucumber
3pm booby
4pm half a crumpet and some raisins
5pm pasta with salmon, craime fraiche and spinach
6pm booby

She feeds herself everything and I find it really stress free if I am honest, bloody messy though!

thats a good idea shiv thanks, was thinking about jsut getting a cheap showercurtain? do you think that would work? were having sausages and mash tonight so we will see how he gets on with the mash, just feel abit guilty cus hes used to eating 4meals everyday and he isnt doing that now
jesse likes chilli, i just add some sourcream to his to make it less spicey and hes fine with it! x

I meant to say shower curtain! Youcan try him with a bit of sausage, they are very salty but as long as he hasn't had loads already today there is no reason why he couldn't try a bit

Morning girls! Chatty today. :D It's only 10 am for me right now. :haha: Boothh you should let Jesse have a go at the stairs. You'll probably be shocked and he'll just shoot up them. :haha: Although once we realized Emma could climb them she now goes straight for them all the time and gets this huge evil grin cause she knows we don't want her going up them. :dohh:

We've let Emma try sausage but it made her throw up so I think it was a bit too much for her poor little tummy. Woops!

hes had sausages before in pasta, only like half of one chopped up though, 1.7g in 2 sausages it says on the packet so 0.85g in one and 0.43g in half?

he had 1sausage chopped in to 4pieces, a big lump of mash and some green beans, he actually seemed to enjoy himself, he ate most of the sausage actually well he got the meat out and then spat the skin on the floor lol! had a good mess around with the mash and green beans mushing them around and then sucking all the mush off of his hands! does that sound about right? or should he be slightly more skilled with it lol! he got tired near the end of dinner though so i whipped him out the chair quick and he fell asleep on the sofa! awww
