--Lion Cubs - Mummy and Baby Group!-- We are all One Year Old!

He looks like he is doing GREAT to me Boothh  Sophia doesn't actually clear her tray and eat everything I give her there is always stuff left to play with. Sounds like he is eating really well and give him a few more days and he will get even more skilled at eating! BLW rocks :happydance:

Boothh- they sell thin plastic bibs that cover the whole front of the baby so you might want to look into getting a few of those for the really messy meals as it saves on laundry. It sounds like Jesse is doing a great job feeding himself! I love the pics. For us, letting Kira have at her food has created 20 good minutes where DH and I can have a nice sit down dinner to chat about our days. I really have enjoyed BLW and I think its worth the extra mess (plus DH cleans up the dinner mess!)

Hi Mumtobeagain

DH thinks I'm crazy because I keep talking about Kira's birthday. It will just be a few people- me, DH, 3 grandparents, 1 uncle (hopefully 2 uncles if my brother flies out!). But I want to bake a special cake for her and have it be a fun little party. It gets so unbearably hot and humid here in August, so it'll probably be an indoor party so that limits what we can do. What are everyone else's plans, or is it too early to talk about this :haha:

i have just asked another august mummy to make jesses birthday cake.. nuttymummy :D turns out she doesnt live so far from me and some of her cakes are amazing! seems like she is interested! sooo excited about it :D

thanks for the reassurance im just a little worried he might be hungry, but he has lots of finger food anyway so im sure he must link foods with being full now so i figure if hes hungry he will eat more?

just caught a great video of jesse playing peekaboo with us so im going to try figure out how to upload it when iv had a bath :D xx

spidey - i have some of those bibs somewere but i cant find them! i know i packed them up when we moved and havnt seen them since will have to see if theres any stuff left at my mums or OHs parents! he has big toddler sized bibs for messy stuff too but its been hottish here so hes been wearing his vest at meal times, i figure if i give him anything super messy ill just leave him in his nappy and stick him in the bath later,

had a bit of umming and aahing with my mum again about starting blw again (shes the one that talked me out of it the first time) but im trying to explain to her the ultimate aim is to teach how to feed himself so why not start now?

the thing is he has decided this himself not me if HE wants to do it himself then why shouldnt i let him, wouldnt i be holding him back by forcing him to be spoon fed?
i know hes only 9months old but he has a mind of his own and a little attitude, hes very independant so shouldnt i be encouraging that!!

seems to me like shes just stuck in her ways, ive offered to borrow her my BLW book but she said shes not interested, just makes me worry about when he goes to stay at her house tomorrow and whether shes going to carry on doing what iv been doing or just try and spoon feed him, she will get a shock when he whacks the spoon out of her hand and wrecks her carpet LOL! xx

hiyerrr  the best advice about the choking thing.. my HV said to me that the gagging reflex is alot more sensitive in babies than it is for us, i know its hard but if you leave her to work it out for herself she will get over it, its all part of them learning to chew and swallow etc, iv jesse gags i pretty much ignore him and let him get over it, if he beomces distressed/goes red/ makes proper choking sounds or is obviously struggling then i help but mostly i let him get over it and he very rarely chokes now, (though a few weeks ago he tried to swallow a whole wipe and ended up mega choking eyes rolling back and everything i smacked him so hard on the back i felt terribly guilty, but he choked it up along with a load of sick, obviously didnt put him off though cus i went to wash my hands came back and he was there chewing another wipe :dohh:) xx

God Booth you must have gotten such a fright I would die if that happened - have just finished a first aid course for work and you did exactly what they thought us with the slap on the back, you kept him breathing so you have no need to feel guilty for hitting him honey.

Okay on the food front - I'm still cooking meals for Natasha and freezing them as we dont really eat well enough I feel.

she is relying mainly on solid food as she really isn't a big bottle drinker.

so our food is as follows:

7.30 to 8.00 am - bottle which can be anything from 2oz to 6oz
9.30 - Wheetabix or Ready Break with formula milk followed by fruit
1.00 - A big bowl for dinner which is usually some sort of meat, chicken or fish dish with potato, pasta or rice and loads of veg. - eg. Shepards Pie with loads of veg yesterday, Red Lentils and Brown rice with apple and carrott today and Salmon, Brocolli and pasta with cheese sauce for tomorrow Followed by dessert which is stewed fruit with Rice Pudding or custard made on formula milk or a yogurt.
5.00 - A big bowl for tea which is some sort of potato, rice or pasta dish. eg. Pasta with stir fried veg and tomato and cheese sauce yesterday, Potato and Cabbage today, Cheesy Peasy Rice tomorrow.
7.30 - Bottle - Anything from 4 to 6oz

We usually dont have our dinner till about 6, so I give her loads of finger food here and any snacks are finger food - This can be some of our dinner if it is suitable for her or else I cook up some pasta or veg - Or sometimes toast with sardines or cheese on it or Rice Cakes, or Organix Carrott Sticks.

She only usually has water throughout the day as she isn't bothered with the juice.

I do wish she would drink more formula though as it has all the vitamins or minerals that she needs, but she has never been that bothered so there is nothing I can really do.

Good to see some old faces - Welcome back girls - hope you are keeping well.

OMG I can't believe Heidi's Caylee is walking already - I saw it on FB too Cleck.

I know it jelr!! When she posted that Caylee is walking I look at Emma and was like 'come on Emma!' :haha:

Yup nutty, we have one walker so far that I'm aware of!! :D So exciting!!! I can't believe how fast our little monsters grow up. :haha:

Thanks!! She's doing well. Crawling, climbing, cruising, and all around driving me crazy. :haha: Her latest trick is to sit there and clap about everything. And DH has her doing high fives. :dohh: What has Abbi been up to? I went nosing through your cake piccies again tonight. I remember looking at them before but I wanted to remember because I'm trying to figure out what to do for Emma's birthday cake. Yours are so gorgeous theres no way I'd have that talent. :flower:

Nutty mummy - where is the cake thread? I have just started making cakes and would love to get some inspiration :hugs: oh and hello!

Haha cleck I'm so glad I have nutty doing my cake I did originally plan on tryna make my own but gave up with that idea after after I continually ruin even cupcake mixes lol, hers are soo good can't wait to show it off lmao! ;)

he is always putting wipes in his mouth and he was next to me I didn't notice anything was wrong til I heard this strangled cat noise an saw him! Im abit more wary now but he always finds something to shove in his mouth, paper is one of his favourites, he always rips my magazines to shreds before iv finished them :(

Lmao! Jesse loves tags he lose business cards too or envelopes anything paper! I wonder how he's never had a papercut!!

The number of toys I've bought because Mog has pulled them off the shelves and started started chewing them.... :)

jesse is the same last time we went to asda he came out a duck pupper that sings old mcdonalds in quacks and a tin of whinni the pooh spaghetti thats hes pulled off the shelf and wouldnt let go off x

awwwww stop...your making me blush LOL

abbi likes chewing stuff she cant have aswell! LOL
we went shopping the other day, i walked round la senza looking for some pjs (for those who dont know what la senza is...its a bra shop!)

but didnt see anything so came out, walked all the way down the shopping centre n noticed in the corner of my eye Abbi was playing with something.......she has only robbed a white bra off the rail and was chewing the price ticket!!

i was wondering why everyone was looking in the pram on the way past......a baby playing with a bra!!!
i had to go all the way back to the shop and apologize!! i dont know how she managed it, but the alarms didnt go off, and the shop assitant/security bloke didnt even notice! LOL

Was it at least in your size?

We give Emma random things to play with in stores like our wallets or a diaper. Just something to keep her attention off of all the things. She has few toys and that's the way I plan on keeping it. :haha: Well her toys started out as few but they've grown to having a small upstairs toybox and downstairs small toybox. :dohh:

jesse has way too many toys, he doesnt even play with half of them, but we have a big family so its to be expected as people are always getting him things, and i did go mad at christmas! and plan to get him quite a few things for his birthday,
i like him having toys though, he isnt spoilt he doesnt have as many as some kids the same age i know and i try and make sure the toys he does have are as stimulating as possible! downstairs he has a toybox, his activity table and his animal train :D
and upstairs he has quite a few toyboxes and shelves and some other stuff scattered around, he has a pullup giraffe thing that i keep meaning to bring downstairs cus it was £40 and he hasnt really played with it yet!

what are you planning on getting for birthday presents?
my list so far is
one of those ride on bikes with a handle so i can push him around in the park or just to shops etc instead of in his pram
a swing for the garden
a ball pool
a rocking dinosaur
and i was thinking of getting him a sandpit!
there was some other things but they are the main big things hes getting :)

WELL.. we ended up in A&E today with jesse for the first time, he crawled over to the fireplace and pulled a candle down it smashed and the galss went everywhere, stuart was soo quick to grab him up away from it but he'd already managed to rub his hands in the little splinters of glass and then rubbed his eye and face!!! :(
he was absolutly hysterical stuart had to pin his arms down and hold his head still so i could pick glass out of his eye, i was panicking soo much, but i managed to get it all out, though he has little cuts on his hands, arms and on his cheeks and neck from were he was thrashing his arms around before we got the glass splinters off of his hands!!
we decided to take him up to A&E just to check i had actually gotten all of the glass from his eye, so when we got there the nurse was such a bitch stuart kept elbowing me cus of how i was reacting but i couldnt help it i couldve punched her!!

her - jess schofield
me - jessE schofield
her - are you the parents?
me - yes (her face changes in patronise mode)
her - so what happened
me (tell her the story of what happened)
her - YOU LET HIM PLAY WITH GLASS :O
me - no as iv just explained he grabbed it off the fire place in a split second
her - so what fire place do you have?
me - what does that have to do with it?
her - im trying to establish how a baby couldve have smashed something by himself
me - he dropped a heavy glass candle off of a high fireplace and we have laminate flooring
her - well she doesnt look distressed
me - HES A BOY!
her - so where you there at the time?
me - no we were both upstairs.. of course we were there at the time,
stuart - (explains he has some cuts on his cheek and hands)
her - we will have to strip him and check him over
me - well what good will that do if he's hurt his eye?
her - gives me a dirty look
as we walk out the room i tell stuart loudly to get the matches out of my bag and give them to jesse so he has something to play with LOL

stupid cow i really did want to punch her in the mouth. the next nurse was lovely she poured some dye into jesses eye shone a light in and found there was nothing left in there and no scratches and said he was lucky not to have scratches and we were always best to bring him in and get reasurance oh and she didnt strip him and check him at all lol.

soo angry though how dare she patronise me like that, and she was definatly trying to accuse me of something it was just her tone of voice
it makes me think twice about taking him in if anything happens cus i dont wanna get spoken to like that!! x

Oh Boothh that's horrible!! That woman sounds like she was a total bitch. Good for you being a bitch right back. :haha: I'm so glad he's okay! :hugs:

As for the birthday stuff, well now you've done it Boothh. I got online and started searching for what I want to get Emma and than I was looking for cake ideas and decorations, etc. I just spent about $500 on everything.:rofl: We aren't doing a big birthday party obviously because we moved and aren't by anyone but my parents are trying to make it out for it. We are going to have her party the weekend before her birthday because Corey will be out to sea for her actual birthday. :nope: If my parents don't make it, it's no big deal because I never planned on doing big parties anyways but I want to make her first birthday special. But I'm doing a cupcake theme. Have you girls ever seen those huge cupcake pans? I always see them and think 'oh that is totally awesome'. So after looking at these cakes that seem so hard to make, I've decided I'm going to make a giant cupcake and smaller cupcakes and we'll do a complete cupcake theme. I bought the little cupcake paper plates, cups, napkins. And of course, the giant cupcake pan. And for those that don't know what the hell I'm talking about here is a piccie I found for inspiration.

As for gifts, I thought about doing a little trike but they all say they are for older kids so I decided I'd wait till her 2nd birthday instead. I'm going with the musical theme instead. I already bought all the gifts too.:rofl: I couldn't control my credit card apparently. :haha::blush: I remember when I was a kid I had this really cute piano that I would sit at and play around with. I know someone else in our group mentioned it too but I can't think of names now. I've been thinking about it for a while so I searched for a pink one specifically. This is the one I found and bought right away.

https://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e255/cleckner04/300.jpg

To go with the piano I got a little drum, a flutaphone, a little fisher price xylophone, and a few little random things. :haha:

DH mentioned wanting to buy her a nice rocking horse that can be passed down to all of our kids and later to grandkids so I found one handcrafted in the US and got that too.

I also bought a little tykes outdoor playset that has a little slide and climbing wall. I plan on keeping it inside though because we don't have a shady area for her to stay out of the sun.

Clearly, I can't control myself. I'm excited to hear everyone else's plans as well! Sorry for going on and on.:blush:

haha yaay so glad its not just me, are going with a jungle theme, jungle birthday cake ;)
looking for decorations and we are having a huge bbq at my mums on the sunay that is his actual birthday keeping with the animal theme we are going to the zoo on the saturday of his birthday weekend :)
i having bought his birthday presents yet cus i have nowhere to store them but im in the middle of looking for ideas for a gift list cus people keep asking me, worked it out and im going to have to come up with about 30gifts for people to choose from plus extras so they have some choice.. :dohh: im not gunna be able to find that many! i might just certain books to some people!

i love that cake btw! xx

Yay!! Birthday fever. :happydance::haha:

Oh yeah I also got Emma a potty seat. :haha: I figure we'll have it sitting in the bathroom so she can see it and get used to it being there.
