living with kids with allergies group

Hes just refusing to eat, think its his teeth bothering him. He didnt go to bed until 10 last night he was so upset and all his cheeks really red

Ahh i fully sympathise, Alex is doing exactly the same!
Hes hardly eating, going to bed late and waking at ungodly hours. Hes teething his canines still and its been a grumpy week!

Im soo tired right now from his waking, i cannot wait untill he goes to bed!

Connors watching itng and then going to bed. Once hes asleep hes not waking, he didnt get up until 11 today. Think its tiring him out

Same here, though Alex refused his nap. Hes been climbing in his bed since 4pm which is too late for a nap! Hes in the bath now then off to bed, dosed up with ibuprofen.

Connors only been up half hour, its really tiring him out. Hes always like this when hes teething. How is everyone else?

Sorry to hear that your LOs' teeth are giving them trouble, ladies. We only have two at the bottom so far, Stanley just does not stop trying to gnaw anything and everything he can get his hands on.

Well, we saw the dietician today. I told her the Nutramigen did not seem to have improved the eczema, and she immediately suggested Neocate and even gave me a tin to take away. So no battle at all, what was I worried about?! We'll see the dermatologist next Friday; she said we should know by then whether CMPA is the problem after all. Popped into my GP surgery, and they got a doctor to sign a prescription for 3 more tins so that we have enough for 2 weeks. We should know for sure by then.

She said not to worry too much about fats for now as the Neocate has what he needs for now, but that we should get him weighed regularly in case he does start to tail off and needs feeding up! Also that emphasis should be on permitted 'real foods' i.e. not purees / mashes but things like bread, beans, family meals, proper food instead of baby food. So I will be looking into getting dairy-free lists from supermarkets.

The Neocate is actually ok, not as bad as the Nutramigen as far as I'm concerned, and Stanley drank it all no problem. He seems a bit less sicky and rashy tonight after 2 feeds of the Neocate, but I have been here before and don't want to get too excited too quickly! But so far so good!

Couldn't have done it without the words of wisdom on this thread :hugs:

Glad it went well!!! :happydance: It seems that you are heading towards the right direction!

We just changed Katerina from Neocate to Nutramigen and she slept a lot better last night but I doubt that it had a chance to make a difference after only two feeds. Like you I'm cautious not to get too excited!! :dohh:

I really hope this works for you. If CMPA is the problem the Neocate should sort it out! Fingers crossed! :hugs:

It woud be great to hear what they tell you. I am also not sure how to introduce other allergens - all I keep reading is that it should be under guidance from a medical professional and not to just attempt it yourself...which is what I was planning to do.

I asked her about this - she said there is no reason to be overly cautious as they could be allergic to all sorts of things. She did say there's no point giving him any new foods until we have his skin under control, as it will be very hard to judge whether he's reacted to a particular food if he's generally rashy. But once it's under control she said just go with the 4-day rule, one thing at a time and watch carefully for different kinds of reactions. I forgot to ask if that applies to nuts but we'll wait at least until he's 1 and will check with a GP or dietician before doing that one. Hope that helps x

Thanks :flower: Will keep you posted. Will be interested to hear if you have success with the change back to Nutramigen (aka stinky milk). Fingers crossed for you too x

Thats a fab result from the dietitian!

I know, I'd really steeled myself for a fight, gone over what I was going to say when they refused my demands, debated whether crying would be a good tactic...:haha: and it was all wasted energy. She was a lovely lady and didn't treat me like an idiot at all, which is refreshing. Can highly recommend Eastbourne dietetics dept if anyone is nearby

How are things with you Arcanegirl?

Thanks so much for this. We are thinking of trying Arlo on eggs or milk this weekend. He is always rashy to some extent (that's why I think he must be reacting to something else through my breast milk), I'm just hoping I'll be able to spot a new flare up as opposed to any existing rash. Fed up of all this guesswork.

It's great news that your meeting with the dietician went so well and that they prescribed neocate with no problems.

Also good to hear that family meals is the recommendation for balanced nutrients. Recently Arlo has been eating the same meals as us, I'll try and stick to this rather than giving him specific baby food. He prefers proper meals anyway!

Im glad to here you didnt have a battle with the diatician, i think neocate stinks but connors never had nutramigan so dont know what thats like. Connors got a cold:( he always gets them when the weathers nice strange child lol thankfully hes ok in himself. Hes eating alot better aswell but have to see how long it lasts as he goes through funny phases.

I didnt think babies/toddlers could get hayfever. I know that makes me sound really thick but i didnt think it set in until around 7-8

Stanley's the opposite. I've given him so much mushed root veg and baby rice that I think it's going to be a steep learning curve. Trying to give him lumpier stuff but with the same old dozen or so ingredients for now!

Oh, another thing the dietician said was about trying to get him to drink from a beaker, as all these specialist milks replace the lactose with glucose and so are pretty bad for their teeth, and bottles keep the milk round their teeth for longer. What age have your LO's managed to drink from a beaker (lidded or otherwise)? Have tried valved, free-flow, doidy... admittedly, not with much regularity, but he doesn't seem to get it yet. It dribbles out of his mouth and down his neck and he is awfully sore there at the moment so will stick with bottles for now.
