I know it's recommended to make formula with freshly boiled water.that's what I do at home.but with holiday coming up I'm in a bit of strange situation.
We will be going on a 2 week cruise, leaving from Miami.so before the cruise I will buy ready to drink formula bottles from USA super market.if I don't find any/ enough,I will get normal powder one.
On the ship I can get boiled water any time but, that's ships water which is purified and perfectly healthy.but I am not keen on the idea of using it for my baby.if I get bottled water,I won't have a chance to boil it.
On the Cruise passengers forum,on the net,it's recommended to use room temp bottled water.
What would you do,if you were in my shoes?

Hmmm not sure. Didn't think bottled water was advised due to mineral content. Can you bulk buy a load of cartons online to know you'll have enough?

I used room temp bottle water. Have a look online and it will tell you which are suitable. I used evian. My LO was on SMA stay down though and that had to be made up with room temperature water anyway.

On the plane we just used the water they use and LO was fine. Can you not take a kettle so you can boil the bottled water?

No, I would never risk it. if I were in your shoes, I would buy a flask. I think there water boiled is better than room temp water and formula full of bacteria.

my son is on sma too,but never tried the stay down though.
and i was a flight attendant so if we compare the aircraft's water to ship water,i would prefer the ship water any day..as crew we always boiled the bottled water, but im not sure if every airline has that option for passangers.
thnx though

I'm inclining to the flask idea youngwife, thanks for honest opinion.

We got a big gallon of purified water when lo was born to mix his powder in and now we just refill it with filtered fridge water and let it sit at room temp. Doctor said both was fine.

I think the guidelines are different everywhere? I'm in the USA and I use bottled water or nursery water or the Gerber brand mixing water at room temp, then put bottles in the fridge and warm as needed.

It seems that everyone gets different instructions though, it's confusing

It also depends on the type of formula. Most types of formula are not made how they used to be. And the serious bacteria in Formula milk doesnt die when made with room temp water. Thats why guidlines say make with boiling water. but like above posters some milks need to be made in cooler water.

I'm from the us also. I make bottles up with room temp bottled water or gerber nursery water. No boiling here. Pediatrician said it wasn't necessary.

I'm in Canada and also use bottled water, my doctor said at 4 months there is no point to boiling it beause everything goes in their mouth and you can't sterilize their food anyway.
However, if your cabin has a coffee maker, you can just send the bottled water through it and have it boiled.

Btw what's a flask?

I've always made formula from room temp water, boiled and then cooled the risk of issues with bacteria are so tiny. It's up to whatever you are comfortable with though. Enjoy!

Liesje, Im in Canada too, and from the sounds of it, it sounds like what we call a thermos.

Oh ok, here the flask is that metal bottle hobos keep their booze in, in their jacket pocket lol
I can see it as a neat place to keep water but since it's not insulated I didn't see the point... It's all clear now :)

Same here. I use Smart Water since it's distilled then minerals added back in, I think "nursery water" is the same thing.
