Question ladies.. I probably sound crazy, but when I'm taking pictures and reviewing them on my camera, it seems like the coloring and contrast of the pictures looks really dark on the camera screen, but when I upload them, it looks normal on my computer.. I'm shooting with a Sony A100, which is a few years old, but is this normal? Does anyone else experience this? I feel like it prevents me from leaving the manual mode since I can't properly tell the coloring until I'm done shooting.. Is there settings in a camera to fix this, or is this due to my camera being on the older side?

Who wants to do a theme shoot?

I can't decide if I like the b&w one or color better. I'm not a huge fan of b&w photos but I feel like this picture may look better with it. I just softened the photo and it made it look like I retouched her skin! A little too much! I didn't do anything but sharpen the eyes and soften her face though.
What do you guys think?

I'd be up for a theme shoot! I'm horrid with ideas though.

I like that picture of Lilly in colour, it really makes her eyes pop. Both versions are stunning but personally I would go with the colour version.

Edit: happilyamrs came up with a better one. VALENTINES DAY theme. It can have our babies in it or not. It can be of yourself (self portrait), your loved one, you AND your loved one, stationary objects, ANYTHING. Just make sure it SOMEHOW relates to Valentine's day. Deadline will be February 14th..

Oh and just to add it doesn't have to blatantly say VALENTINE'S DAY or anything anywhere in the photo.

You are very talented! Your photos are lovely and your lo is adorable!! Do you use photoshop or some other editing software? I love the look of you pictures, sort of velvety. Wasn't sure of that was the camera settings or editing.

Photoshop is just way too expensive for us right now, we won't be able to afford it for awhile, so I actually use a FREE site called picmonkey. You can sharpen/soften your photos, adjust color/contrast/brightness/shadows/highlights/temperature, etc. They have tons of effects you could use, it's like a very easy photoshop, obviously no where near as good but good enough! Try it out!

I upgraded it though so that I could use everything on the site, it was only $4.99 a month, or $30 a year.
Oh, and no registration required!

I use a canon t3i, and shot on manual mode. My auto focus mode was AL FOCUS.
Shutter speed: 1/250 sec
ISO: 1600 (I know it's high, had pretty bad lighting at the time!)
Aperture: 6.3

I could have adjusted the settings a little bit better, but she was being so cute I just wanted to snap some photos without fiddling around.

For editing, I just darkened the shadows a little to make her face pop more, upped the brightness, sharpened the eyes, and softened the rest of the face. (All of which you can do on the free mode of picmonkey)

Oh and the 'velvety' feeling of the photo is most definitely the editing! It can do wonders, hehe.

OMG Jess that site is fantastic and SO user-friendly. When OH gets home I'm definitely making him hand over his credit card so I can upgrade. Here's a pic I took today and then edited:

Me too! All our friends and families live in a different state so only get to see Lil's twice a year so we have a lot of people demanding photos of her. I feel bad sometimes for spamming the newsfeed but I deleted old "acquaintances" so it's mainly just close friends/ church friends/ and family.
