March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

Waula - Zack loves his gym already - when he's awake I can put him down and hell lie there for a good while looking round. I've also had him on his front and he lifts his head like a little cobra! Got a lovely one from mamas and papas, think its the coconut island, with monkeys and other animals on.

I was up and dressed by 10am this morning, woo!

cupcake - lovely to hear from you...hope the weigh in goes well today!!! re: dogs... ours have been quite intrigued by the noises from the pram but soon got accustomed to the cries and stopped getting out of their beds! Not done too much by way of "introducing" but making a concerted effort to give them some lovin' too and plenty of dog walks with N in the sling...

Lozza/Mitch - right... N need a play mat. Fact.

Just spoken to the insurance company and i've been ok'd to get back driving :happydance: so off to mothercare/next we go to get kitted out with some N clothes chosen by mummy (got a LOT of clothes to take back that are really quite rank!!! :dohh:) and a play mat.

xxx

Having real troubles getting outfits and sleepsuits ti fit M....she is long but quite skinny...bless her....so outfits drown ger but smaller sizes stop her stretching out legs .....

Alot of things look like clown outfits ha ha. She has now been sleeping sine about 8:30 and we want to go out...but know i need to do a change and feed to last her. Time to wake a sleeping baby

Mitch, she's a fluke!! I'm sure she will suddenly realise that this is not how newborns are meant to behave and my bubble will be burst!!!

Need to get D's play gym out! Been too worried that the dogs will think its their play gym!!

How often is everyone bathing their lo's. Am really not sure! And when are we meant to start using a baby friendly product rather than just water?

Cupcake, my 2 dogs have generally just ignored Dharma, but strangely we had visitors yesterday and though I was not holding D, the puppy starting growling when their children came near me. She has never ever growled and concerned me enough to take her out of the room. I have no idea what it was all about, but not good.

Hi mamas!

Firstly im so sorry im not getting on here as much as i want to be, DH needs my laptop for a database project he is doing for someone and i dont have net on phone :( he has deadlines to meet so didnt want to chuck him off. On top of that of course we have george and the thousands of visitors which im hoping will trail off soon :haha:

good news is DH i will be able to get on here tomo and weds whilst DH is at work for two days...... (altho of course i would rather he be at home)

but will be great to catch up with you all xxx

GLOW - HUGE CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! he is gorgeous its rashys turn now isnt it? then widger? :) amazing

we are all nearly mamas :)

so today i need to look into whether or not to start expressing (i heard its ideal not to until body has regulated milk - around week 4/5? - but is OK to do)... also george has a little blocked nose still so would like to see what i can do about that.

Loo - im no help with bath stuff as georges stump is still on and decided not to bath him till its off.

so much love to you all - cant wait to catch up on here and read back tomorrow..... :hugs:

Ps. cant believe George is one week old today.... i feel really emotional and keep welling up... a mixture of thinking its gone too fast and what we went through this time last week. Happy and sad.

bath times - we actually gave R a bath on the day he was born. His hair was rather manky if you know what i mean but we didnt get him too wet. Yesterday his stump fell off (thank god, it stank) so we gave him a proper bath - and we filmed it!! ha ha. look forward to showing him that when he's older - he weed on me whilst i was drying him, the little tinker - all on film!

i think we will just bathe him when we think its necessary from now on.

we used johnsons top to toe wash for his hair and bottom, just plain water for the rest.

midwife hasnt arrived. i dont think she is going too. i think i had better give them a call because i want to go out soon.

we dont have a baby gym but R pretty much just feeds and sleeps at this stage. or he sits in the bouncer chair watching us and the dog. he seems happy enough.

cant remember who said about taking clothes back? luckily we have only had really beautiful gifts. niceposh things that i wouldnt normally buy myself (surely the perfect present attitude!)

only gift from hubs parents was a hand knitted blanket (nice) and family tree poster (bit weird). i sound ungrateful but we have had tonnes of gifts from my parents, siblings and relatives and have only had gifts from hubs sisters. nothing at all from the other relatives - 'in-laws' eh?!!

yWe did 11:30, 2, 5:30 and then 8 for feeds last night... I do on demand but she is still stuck on NICU schedule! I can't wait for her to sttn!

As far as clothes she is still fitting preemie and newborn and 0-3 sleepers and babygrows but no outfits or dresses in 0-3 mos. She better get big enough for them soon because her baby shower is on the 12th of April and her aunty bought her the cutest dress to wear for it! (Ugh dreading all the people wanting to hold her...)

Hello laddies

We have a play gym, must get it out.

Bathing....we wash Edith whenever she gets sicky grubby. I gave up on the baby bath and either bathe with her or I wash her in the sink. Far more manageable. We've been given some lovely lavender baby bath stuff but I'm sticking to water for a good while yet.

What the hell are snot suckers? On the subject of health stuff, in a fit of paranoia and thanks to a Boots voucher from MrC's work we've bought an infrared thermometer.

On sleeping. She's three weeks old and so far from learning habits I can't be shagged with routines. We're all learning, including her and each day is different. I think, though cannot be sure, that I got up three times last night. The night before was one from hell with her up from 2:30am crying solidly until we slinged her from 9am with MrC swaying to Bonobo to get her off. The Close sling, which my friend sent up because ours are too large for her, has been a god send. She's in it now, snoozing, whereas she would usually be locked in a feeding/winding cycle around this time.

I'm highly cynical about the tongue tie diagnosis so we're trying to really rule out wind/comfort suckling first. She's spat out dummies so giving up on them and really, if she's windy, the problem isn't going to be solved that way. Trying Infacol but I, and our Baby Bible, feel it to be a little like snake oil and if she has colic, it'll solve itself. The consensus seems to be the time these remedies work is around the time colic or evening fussiness starts to level off. A concerted effort to wind her and feed her upright last night may have helped. My lovely silk dressing gown was victim to it though.

Good luck to all those with weigh ins! I'll be taking her to the clinic tomorrow first time after the ten day discharge weigh in.

Thanks for asking Waula and Loo. Things have generally been difficult over the past few days, culminating in MrC and I not being good to each other yesterday morning. I hope things are better, or will be. I just want to block it all out.

MsC OH and I are pretty stable and we've fallen out a few times already. Its pretty stressful being a new parent not to mention the tiredness, so blow ups are basically normal. Not what you need when you are tired and hormonal, but there you go :hugs:

I'm not really bothering with a routine. I tendd to vaguely keep tabs on when she likes to feed and sleep incase a pattern emerges that o can take advantage of, but other than that, she'll have to slot round our current routine with Roh

I have a close sling and I love it to bits!! Best buy ever. F just snoozes so peacefully in it the second I start moving about. Perfect!

No offence to anyone who is using johnsons products, but they are pretty bad as far as unnecessary chemicals. Not too great for babies skin, and I know a lot of people who's children have had a reaction to their products. Roh has some excema on his arms and when I went to the docs about it, the first question she asked was "do you use johnsons products?" anyway, I'm sure its fine as otherwise they wouldn't be able to market ther products as safe for young children (I assume). Boots do a brand called earth friendly and their lavender shampoo and body wash smells soooo nice on baby hair, I recommend it if you are looking for something gentle if your kidlets turn out to have sensitive skin

Well F just slept from 9.30-1.30pm. Do that at night girly!!!

Things will be better MsC. Sleep deprevation is a form of torture, and it's bound to take its toll on you both. I keep seeing a vacant look in Al's eyes that makes me want to scream, but he just looks how I feel, and I'm one of the lucky ones who gets sleep!

I'm glad you are trying different things. We had to try a few different brands of dummy before Dharma settled for Mam brand. If you don't think it's that though, then no point in wasting money.

:hugs:

Well the mw never turned up which makes me grumpy to have wasted most of the day, but pleased it gives Dharma extra chances to bulk up! We have the HV over tomorrow, so don't think I'll call the mw until after we have seen her.

Oh meant to say playgyms are ace. Ours isn't out yet as I've been worried about Roh trampling F but might give it a try. Probably I'll need if when OH goes back to work. So glad he's had this extra time off! Its his birthday on wednesday, crap need to sort stuff out!!

Oh haha also good for a laugh went out earlier and felt wetness, looked down and realised my breastpad had slipped and I was sporting a large and growing wet patch under one boob! I'm sooooo classy!! :dohh:

oh MsCrow...sorry to hear you've had a tough few days...and believe me you're not the only one sniping with OH. Had a bit of a bad weekend with N feeding constantly and DH not being helpful and us having lots of visitors. Sleep deprivation is bloody awful. Not normally the naggy wife but yesterday I was very much naggy wife. And i'm with you on the whole routine malarkey. Stupidly bought the "baby whisperer" book which arrived today and I've read most of it thinking oh s**t we're doing it all wrong. Which is, of course, wrong. Things will get better MsCrow - its just such a huge shock to the system for us and our LO's isn't it. Massive :hugs: hun. So glad the sling is working well for you and Edith. xxx

Swaddling ladies...right, i haven't done it since he was born...what do they wear underneath? do you blanket them on top too?? might give it a whirl tonight. N did not want to settle last night at all (unless he was sleeping on me...:dohh:)

baths/products...we're bathing as and when needed but seeing as DH has gone back to work today it might be something that we try and do a bit more of (or he will :haha:) at night time...we've been using some organic, soap free stuff from cowshed for bottom/hair and it seems to be ok so far...will step away from the johnsons and maybe use it for me - thanks emera!!! :flower:

Emera....:haha:on the wet patches...i made a massive one in bed the other night...now i shall not go without breast pads

Ft.....one the nct girls recommended Nose Nuzzles..by jackson reece...they do herbal wipes and these saline nose wipes....helps unblock noses. Plus i think you can get saline drops.if really bad. Anyhow i picked up a pack from the baby aisle in sainsburys yesterday...havent used yet

Regards bath....we have only top and tailed M so far but then her stump only dropped off on Saturday morning and it has been a little moist still. Now parents have gone and it has dried out a bit more we are planning first bath tonight. We have a baby bath but also a foam inlay....so we can do her in main bath. Not using any products...we have been given some J and J stuff but our mw recommended no products, just warm water for first 4 weeks or so. I think we will only bath a couple of times a week or unless she gets grotty :happydance:

Right feed time before i have my lemon and poppy seed muffin from starbucks:happydance:

I've only just finished my lunch. I'm trying so hard to tidy up but Ted just wants to sleep in me. He won't go into his moses basket. I put Ted onto his play gym this.morning. he seemed to like it!

Mitch, yum to the muffin! :D

Stuffy noses I reckon saline drops are best. I have some tyxilix ones than come in indivdual little squeezy things, they are great as you don't waste half the bottle once they are opened  I don't like using the nasal aspirators, when Roh was little I used one, but it used to irritate his nose and then it ran and got blocked more. Maybe I was doing something wrong? Anyway I've avoided snot suckers since then, I don't trust myself!!

Mitch I meant to say to you F is long too and we've had quite a few hand me down little wrap vest and trouser sets. They look sweet and don't cramp her legs up like some of the sleepsuits, but also don't look so over baggy across the shoulders/arms. Plus its givng me a chance to use some of the sweet little booties we've been given :) (by the way booties stay on better with socks on underneath!)

Mmm I have a stem ginger chocolate icecream here, soo tasty!!
Thought the weather was meant to be crappy today? Its still lovely here! :)

Does any one know a trick to getting a newborn to open their hand? We did foot prints and got one decent hand print but couldn't get him to reliably open his hand. My husband thinks it's silly but I really want to make a photo and print collage. It's a sentimental thing, he'll never again be this small.

KKL did you add me on facebook?

Kym- I did add you on facebook, I would like to add others on here as well.
My name is Kim L. and my profile pic is Baby E. in a pink outfit :) Same as my pic here

So sorry to hear about your stepsister.

I'm reading to try and catch up, first day DH is back to work... miss him and all his help already! We have had company visiting every day since Thursday and I'm finding it's very tiring even if they only stayed for an hour or two.

Hope everyone is well :hugs:

Glow- congrats! He is so cute

Had M in a trouser and top set....fitted ok...just bought some shorter trousers in mothercare today which will go with long sleeved vests and some t shirt style tops that a friend bough us. Separates definately better for M than dungarees/all in onesets. Got some more 7.5lb sleepsuits from MC too...they have integrated fold over mitts to stop her mutilating herself :haha:.....not sure how long they will last but at least they dont shrink when washed like the tesco ones did:growlmad: waste of money

Waula...i swaddle M. She wears a vest (only top half one...no under bum poppers...better for night changing...got from MC)...sleepsuit and swaddle using a thin flannelette sheet. We have a blanket we drape over her and tuck round but that depends if its a warm night. She seems happy enough...guess as weather heats up will drop sleepsuit:shrug:

Mitch baby emery boards are great for smoothing nails and reducing the self mutilation! ;) F sleeps in a sleepsuit (no vest) swaddle and then blanket if needed. Its about 19c in our room at night.

Oh and Waula I found baby whisperer a bit depressng at this stage but go back to it in a few months its a bit more helpful then. I recommend a book called Baby Sense if you can find it, it was brilliant last time! :)

We do the same as Emera, just a sleeper, swaddle me blanket (she breaks out of receiving blankets so they have been great for us!) And then her knit blanket. If its really cold I have a fleece sleep bag I put her in instead of the swaddle me.
