March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

Ft - well done for catching up, if I couldn't post on my phone I'd be weeks behind! Re feeding, I rang the nct helpline at the weekend as was having 2 hour long feeds which seemed crazy. They said to watch that he's actually swallowing as well as sucking, if not then he's there for comfort so break him off.. Had got better but last nights feeds seemed to take ages again. I need to try loo's tactic properly, attempted it in a half hearted way. I'm going to a drop in session 2moro I think. He's feeding great (well I think, weigh in any time now) but I want to speed things up ESP at night!

C3 - jess looks perfectly formed to me:hugs:

Hiya all...

C3po...jess looks gorgeous and your toilet/poonami/wee smelling child stories made me:haha:....best make sure M is changed and smelling fresh tomorrow

Ft....i swaddle M...well part swaddle....i let her have one arm up by her face and the other down in swaddling sheet....she seems to like it.

Loo...yeah for being signed off by mw...great news.:happydance:

Hubby back to work today so i took on all night duties last night so he could sleep...he didnt retire to spare room hand said he slept ok. Have told him to.use spare room if he needs too...he needs to rest for work ...agreed ft...glad hubby only working 3 days this week. We had a double nappy poonami episode last night and today...lucky shenwe got back from a visit to my office to visit worm colleagues.....spillage out onto clothes today too....:dohh:. She was an angel at work slept the whole 30 min drive there, while being passed around 6-7 people (lost count) and back home again. as soon as i put her car seat down on sofa she screamed blue murder so had to delay change until half fed :haha:. Everyone commented on her hair and how small she was....and placid:cloud9:.....shame they didnt get to see her big eyes but i wasnt waking her for anything:nope:

Just managed to unload and reload dishwasher....put a load of washing on (after a large dose of vanish stain remover:dohh:) and got lunch and a coffee....M is down in carrycot.

Does everyone cuddle and carry their LOs all day or do you put down in basket/carrycot so you can get things done...i sort of feel perhaps i should be holding her more!!??

Mitch - Keira is in her cradle unless she stays awake after a feed. If I am done all my housework I take the time to play with her - read to her, walk her around and talk to her about what she is looking at, stand with her in front of the mirror etc... I try not to hold her to sleep as I don't want her to get dependent on that.

Thanks skadi....i tend to play with her during her active times....hold up her black and white scrunchy books and toys and sometimes put her on the playgym...keeps her occupied for a little while. She is soooo good at getting herself off to sleep in carrycot bless her....such a darling...cant wait til she sleeps slightly longer at night but i am being greedy. She is perfectly normal :haha:

Mitch - I don't tend to cuddle Jess as much as I did my other two, but being my third I just don't have the time to sit and cuddle. I feel guilty about it. I do cuddle her if she's awake after her feed for 5-10 minutes when I can.

Yeah that sounds perfect to me. Keira is wonderful at self settling during the day for naps but seems to forget how at night. :dohh:

Gah! D is so unhappy today. She just screamed from the last feed for an hour, so I'm just feeding her again. I gave her some infacol before her feed too, not because I think that's what it is, I just want to rule it out as I'm feeling desperate.

Got to go to dunelm to order some curtains after this and I'm dreading that she will be the same. Just want to curl up and cry.

Bad day. Probably more for me than her.

Oh Loo...big hugs hun... I think you're so brave getting out with her into town once, never mind twice!!! My trips out have been to the supermarket and for a dog walk. Not so brave here. And you're right, she's probably having a grand day!! :dohh: can the curtain purchasing not wait til tomorrow??? Go on, curl up with her on your bed and have a D cuddle. By the way Noah was a complete nightmare for 24-36 hrs around 2 weeks and 3 weeks old. The HV just said today it would have been a growth spurt which is lovely to know in hindsight. Big hugs to you both

Mitch - good effort getting into work...I'm a bit panicked about him waking up and having to flop a boob out in front of my bosses!!! :haha: :holly: And don't worry about not cuddling M - you need to be able to get stuff done and its great that she can settle herself off to sleep!!! Angel child. Not in the slightest bit jealous. At all. :haha:

C3P0 - OMG your wee/poo stories are great. So this toiletting madness is just going to continue right!??!!

MsCrow - sounds like E growth is awesome!!! well done... I know the colicky/windy/crying thing is hideous but you're doing her very well and she's obviously growing like a trooper!!!

Mousey was definitely 9cm an hour ago and still flippin updating the other thread. madness!!! Mouselet is on her way!!!

AFM - how can a shower, feeding a small child, a dog walk, a weigh in, a load of washing and emptying the dishwasher take from 7am to now???! Hilarious. Just sat down and Noah snoozing in his pram, feeling the motherly love a LOT today!!! Not that I don't every day but you know when you look at them and could just cry - well I'm having one of those days. :cloud9:

So, walked round to the drop in centre for a weigh in session. N was 9lb 3 at birth, dropped to 8lb 6 at day 5, back to 9lb 1oz at day 10 and now is 10lb!!! What a little chunk. It makes all the BF angst so absolutely worth it. Feel like we've turned a bit of a corner (again!! :haha:) with him feeding off both boobs at all feeds, lasting 3 hrs consistently (meaning a 2am & 5am feed which is so much better than it has been!) apart from the cluster feeds from 6-10pm which I don't mind as it means I get to slob out on the sofa... so all in all a good day to be a mummy in this house.

EDIT: FT - I would speak to someone re: G feeding hun - every hour is a bit mad - not surprised you're tired!! MW told me early on to "walk" my fingers round the boob as he was actively sucking to get the hindmilk out which is the filling stuff so maybe try that? Also we're using a dummy off and on. If N just had a double boob feed he's usually so milk-drunk that he'd sleep anywhere but if he's grouching then he gets the dummy and loves it. As Lozza said, make sure he's swallowing as well as sucking - I watch N and as he starts to doze off I tickle him, stroke his forehead, get hold of his hand etc and it seems to work. How are your nips holding up with hourly feeds!?!

Sea3p - she said your LO's head was wonky? im SURE its not!! ps. love the stories about forgetting clothes etc x makes me feel better

Lozza / loo - whats loo's feeding strategy... think i missed it? TELL ME!!!!! lol :winkwink:

mitch - i have to admit i handle geroge alot as he just seems to like being held... maybe a bit too much  but i put him in his rocker crib (which we take downstairs) when i cook / clean /etc .. i havent put him on his activity mat yet actually... i will this week.

Im starting to feel bad as i dont really ''play with george''..... he seems to just want to sleep or feed....

Loo - sorry its a rougher day hunni :hugs: it will end :hugs:

waula - i hear you on the ''where has the day gone???'' Lunch for us is usually around 4pm these days :haha:

Yup i think every hour is a bit mad too, but the MWs didnt seem too concerned  im pretty sure he is feeding.... well, sure as can be. My nips are actually ok :haha:

How long are ur LO's feeding for when you feed them? maybe George is taking shorter feeds??? anyone mind sharing??

also... ... does anyone else keep having little crys? Im honestly happy and there is nothing obvious bothering me... but every now and again i need a little cry  think its prob tiredness..... also, due to blood loss during c-sec im anemic and on iron tablets. Maybe im just a little run down from a mix of the two. and to think i used to be a smug iron constitution :nope:

FT - don't worry about handling G too much - I think its almost medicinal after a traumatic birth to be honest. And i'm with you on the weepy moments. Glad the nips are holding up (ha!) and N now feeding every 3hrs for 10-15mins on one boob then burp and then 5-10 on the other side. I have only been doing double boob feeding for a week and it definitely fills him up more.

Loo's feeding strategy is "switch feeding" where you feed off one boob until the fast sucks start to slow down then switch to the other boob and repeat until both boobs done twice each then go back to the original boob and feed for as long as they want. its meant to stimulate more of the fatty/satisfying hindmilk.

By the way I read in the (awful) baby whisperer book yesterday that it can take up to 10mins for the foremilk to be finished before the fatty hindmilk arrives in...to be honest FT I think BF is more of an art than a science and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another - honestly its taken us weeks to get to the stage where N now opens his mouth wide when I unclip my bra and really gets the whole latch thing. G is growing like a trooper - you're doing great...

EDIT - I was also on iron tabs after blood loss from c-sec FT - my god - I wasn't expecting the constip issues! Took them for 2 weeks and have given up on them now and am just eating more steak. Being horribly anaemic with a newborn who would like a feed every hour - I think we're allowed to have a little weep. And also allowed to having enormously long cuddles with our little boys... xxx

FT- yes... little cries I have are due to tiredness and worry. I think it's perfectly normal for the first few weeks. The other night I cried because my massive boobs were killing me after she fed and I was so worried I had an infection or something... today it's totally fine again.
Eve tends to feed for about 15 min on each side every feed. Not sure if that's the right amount of time... I think all babies are different.

Mitch- I try and lay Eve down when she naps during the day because I don't want her to rely on me holding her to sleep. I try and hold her when she's awake as much as possible. Sounds like what you are doing is working.

Loo- :hugs: sorry you're having a rough day

AMF, last night was fantastic:happydance: Fell asleep after feed at 10 and then up from 2:30-4, then slept til 7. I can't complain... I would rather be up once for a long time than lots of short feeds during the night. Took awhile for her to fall back to sleep but I'm feeling much better today.

DH back to work... I miss his help most in the morning, he wants us to stop by today for lunch- can't wait! It was really great he had 2 weeks off but I could have used one more

My grandfather is not doing well, he keeps going back and forth from the nursing home and the hospital... the dr said maybe 2 weeks because the cancer is so bad
I feel so bad about not being able to visit as much as I would like... I've always been really close to him. He got to meet her last week because he came down to the lobby in the nursing home but he's back in the hospital today and there's no way I will take her there. DH would like to visit with me so I think we will be leaving her with Grandma for the first time tomorrow so that we can visit him together. I'm sure he would like to see his great-granddaughter again but I just feel she's way to young to be going to places filled with germs. Am I right? I don't want to risk her getting sick.

Sorry for the depressing post... just need to vent - I know my family understands but it's still a difficult situation.

N now feeding every 3hrs for 10-15mins on one boob then burp and then 5-10

:saywhat: OMG. no wonder george put on weight! :haha: he tends to feed anywhere between 20mins-45mins... altho today he did a couple of 5 mins feeds

Infact his pattern today is

7:30 - 20 mins
8:30 - 20 mins
10 - 20 mins
11 - 45 mins
12:50 - 10 mins
1:55 - 5 mins
2:05 - 15 mins
2:40 - 30mins

... ..... although he is now sleeping like a good boy :haha:

EDIT TO ADD: yer the iron tablets are rubbish. cant wait till they are over, maybe i will feel a little less tired then  but i doubt it

Oooh mouselet on the way:happydance:...havent been on other thread today.

Ft....yes yes yes to weepiness...i got it alot in first 7-10 days.....really bad around day 5....just everything made me cry. Had a 'dont leave me'...'this is what you wanted'....'you are happy?' type conversations with hubby...just felt continually vulnerable. It is passing now as hormones stabilikse....and i am getting less of the 7pm blues...where i worry about what sort of night i am going to have. They seem fairly predictable snd there is nothing i can do to alter them so not worrying anymore.

Waula....i wish she was a little angel...but to.be honest she could be alot worse and is probably building up to.becoming a nightmare :nope:. Great weight gain for N!!! :)

Loo....big hugs!!!! Sounds like a tough day x x

Regards M feeding ....typically every 2-3 hours...but early morning feeds about 3 times in 2-3 hours and early evening every 1.5-2 hours ish....night she goes 4 hours ish. No really.definate pattern. She can take a full feed in 10-15mins and that can last her up to 3 hours. Sometimes longer....but definately no longer than 20-25 mins max.

All these babies are sooo different:happydance:...cant wait to get her weighed again

Loo - let the crappy day wash over you and hold onto the good days ((((hugs))))

I was also put on extra iron tablets after a large amount of blood loss during my c-section. It was such an amount that my GP actually phoned me at home to see if I was okay. Strangely no one mentioned the blood loss at hospital, just dropped several hints about eating iron rich food. I took them for about 2 weeks then stopped as I wasn't sure if they were causing the hives I suffered.

FT - the little cries you're experiencing are the baby blues, just your hormones settling down. Plus you've been through a lot.

Waula - the peeing and pooing only gets worse. The moment they take a soiled nappy off and paint the walls with the contains. Honestly you have to learn to laugh, otherwise you would cry :D

Kk - so sorry to hear about your grandad hunni :hugs: i think there is no right or wrong, you have to go with your gut. and if thats not bringing your LO into the unit then thats the right thing to do :hugs:

Kkkl:hugs:....sounds like you are having a rough time....regards taking LO with you to hospital...you have to do what you feel is right....i probably wouldnt take her there. Is your grandfather coming out soon? He will get other opportunities to see LO?

FT - R feeds about every 3 hours for about half hour each time (one boob each feed, i offer the other but he is too full to take it at the mo). He had a bit of a mad booby night on about day 4 and fed every hour all night. He also fed quite a lot last night.

As for weight, Rupert was 8lb 12oz at birth, then lost 5% by day 3 and by day 6 was back to birth weight (midwife did turn up yesterday afternoon in the end). We have been signed off by the midwife now. It was nice that the same midwife that delivered him came for his final check.

She says def homebirth or birth centre next time as the labour was so easy and pushing was quite quick. She thinks the next baby will be quick (as long as i dont need inducing!!)

kk :hugs: hun - its up to you obviously but I agree with Mitch - I'd probably want to avoid hospitals when they're this little... its horribly sad but he'd understand. hope you get to see him soon... xx

Hello, lads. I only have a few minutes as I'm sitting in the doctors office waiting for my 6 week PP check. (FYI... I weighed in, and I have now lost 30 lbs. 7 more to go until pre preg weight.

Loo, my boys have been crying a lot after feeds and I tried everything, but they wouldn't settle. Then I discovered... they're still hungry!! They each guzzled a 2 ounce bottle after having nursed for an hour! I felt bad for depriving them, but it was a relief to know it was an easy fix. Hopefully my milk supply will catch up with their little growth spurt soon.

Btw... The boys each slept 6.5 hours straight last night!! Unfortunately, it was between the hours of 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. so it didn't benefit my sleep at all. :dohh:

Fantastic weight loss WT...and i really dont know how you keep up with bf'ing two LOs...you are amazing. Hope your appt goes well:flower:

Cupcake...yeah for being signed off by mw
