March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

:hugs: Emera - hope she settles for you and you manage to get some sleep :winkwink:

OMG glad you girls brought up the constipation thing! It hurts sooo bad that I almost end up crying each time too! I had a 2nd degree tear and I know there is at least one stitch on the outside, plus i'm pretty sure I've got some hemorrhoids there too... I bleed a bit each time I need to go :( Glad i'm not the only one suffering from this, I hope it gets better soon, for us all!

Thanks FT for the BF advice. I think you might be right, I need to get a better latch for it to not hurt so much.

I think the fear of going takes over and makes constipation worse, particularly with stitches etc. I am taking fybergel (got it last time from docs) which softens your poo but you have to drink loads of water with it, which isnt prob with bfing.

Isn't it nice when you have to wake baby up, rather than other way round? Ok, early days still in terms of tonight.but obvious improvement on last night. Let's see if I get another long stretch.....

E - Daniel used to be awake from such a young age during day. He eventually started sleeping but good thing was he was such a good sleeper at night. Fingers crossed for you. Hope have better day tomo.

Thanks lozza about boob pain. I've been feeding every 3 hours and massaging whilst doing it so hopefully will feel better in few days.

Edit - Joanna, have you had him checked for tongue tie? Sometimes even the smallest amount of skin can make latch bad.

Hello, lads. Hope you are all well.

Mouse, it's so good to hear from you and your lil piglet! 21.5 inches? She's loooong.

There seem to be quite a few piglets amongst our group. I guess our little ones were paying close attention to all of our food chatter for the past 9 months.

AFM.. I'm in Washington DC for the week with DH and the boys, and I was really worried that it would be tough on them (and therefore tough on me), but I they have been angels! They still don't really let me sleep because they take so long to eat at night, but the daytime crying has been virtually non existent. I'm in shock about it to be honest. They seem to love all the commotion.

I love being their mommy.

It also seems that they're really waking up to the world and showing their personalities. Baby P is my quiet, observant baby. He's cool, calm and collected. Baby K is expressive and dramatic. He knows how to get his needs met. I foresee Baby P as the plotter/schemer and his brother will be the implementer/enforcer. :)

:hi: evening lads!!!!

Re constipation, it took me 5 days to build up the courage, and then I was sat crying on the loo for half an hour and bled so much afterwards. Once I had been 'properly' it wasn't too bad though. Is anyone still quite painful below? I'm still having to sit down carefully because it feels so tender still. The midwife had a look before she discharged me and was happy, but man! I thought it would all be back to normal by now!

Glow :hugs: sorry you had a tough day. Are the girls not sorting themselves out? I know it's tough on you, but I hope you find a balance. This is an exhausting time for you :hugs:

Lozza, I hope Z slept tonight for you. It's hard when they sleep all day, but what can you do? You can hardly keep a newborn awake if it doesn't want to be?

WT, I love that you have figured out your boys' evil plan! Sounds like you've got the hang of this baby thing! I feel like I could do with tips off you! You are doing so well!!! Enjoy the rest of your break away.

As for us, we had a good day. We have decided to give D a bath each evening just before we go to bed at 10. It's a bit of a pain doing it so late, but it really relaxes her. Emera, we did the leg massage tonight afterwards and she loved it :cloud9: thanks!

Well my piglet has been feeding for ages. I hope she has had enough soon because I need sleep! I've not been napping in the day so I need it at night!!!

Question? Am I the only one in constant fear of SIDS? I mean I still do "bad things" like use the bumper on my cradle and put her tummy down to sleep every now and then when she won't settle on her back but I can't help but continuously check on her. I even have the angelcare movement monitor and I still check in and touch her to make sure she is still breathing! lol I feel neurotic and I don't know if it was our NICU stay or normal to worry like that?

My sister told me that an old friend of mine e-mailed her today to RSVP for the baby shower next weekend saying she was bringing her 9 month old son to the shower because she is still nursing him and asking to bring her other 2 children?! Isn't that a bit strange?

Skadi, I'm the same with SIDS. I didn't think about it for about 10 days, but then I couldn't get it out of my mind. D likes to sleep on her side and though I put her on her back she has rolled onto her side in seconds. It bothers me that she could end up on her front. The other thing is temperature. I'm constantly worried she is too hot in the cot especially as we swaddle her.

I'm trying not to think about it too much. I mean we are doing our absolute best by her, and I guess that's all we can do?!

Is anyone else's lo screaming ( and I mean SCREAMING!!!!!!) each nappy change. D screams like she is being attacked at every single change and though we are used to it, I'm just wondering if it's normal?

Also, is everyone still on cotton wool and water for nappy changing or has anyone switched to wipes yet?

Loo. I never used cotton wool. I'm naughty. Ted seems to quite like a nappy change... little weirdo...

I want some sleep

Skadi - it's perfectly normal, at least I hope it is. My eldest is 14 years old and I still check on her every night!

I think constipation after birth is just Mother Nature's idea of a cruel joke. Epsom salts work well, but unfortunately you cannot take them in breast feeding.

Jessica got a sore bottom in the hospital because I used wipes. I a very bad mummy. I switched to cotton pads and water until her bottom got better and then went back to wipes. So far her bottom seems fine.

Skadi - I've been surprisingly relaxed about the whole SIDS thing. Though I'd be constantly checking but to be honest I think when I do fall asleep I'm too tired to worry about it, plus Z is pretty noisy most of the time.

Well I started writing this about 5am but then fell asleep. What an amazing night, went to bed at 8.30, fed at 11, 3.30, 5 and 7,45 for about 30 minutes each time and slept in between (except between 3.30 and 5 but DH sat up with him) so I think I've just had 7-8 hours of sleep! That's the most since he was born! We think maybe he was too cold all this time? Weve had the heating on all night so we're boiling.

What do you guys sleep them in? We've had the room about 18 degrees as suggested then Z in vest, sleepsuit and a matalan blanket doubled over. Last night room must be about 23, same clothes, blanket plus another doubled over wool blanket!

Loo, I use cotton wool still. Used wipes once and found it really difficult! Have got loads of cotton wool so will move to wipes when I run out. And he screams blue murder thru changes unless he's just been fed and we put a towel or muslin under his head so mat isn't too cold

We use a mixture of wipes and cotton water
depending on nappy content

we have room at 17/18c and mw recomnened-vest.sleepsuit.cardi. ligt sheet.light single blanjet.
I thought sounded alot but she seem more content from then.

I so worry abouy sids s i yjink we all fear we are doing our best
Ladies a little bf advice . E can latch n and off 3.4 tims each feed is it normal i feel we lose or suction alit .

L x

sounds like a good night Lozza!!!! our house is at 18 deg, N in vest/sleepsuit/blanket too overnight...we did 11.30, 2.30, 6.30!!!! woo!!!! feeling similarly rested!!!!! N seems very awake at 6.30 so i'm encouraging that (!) much better than at 3am!!!

emera - did F sleep all night??!

MsC - not heard from you for a while - hope ur ok hun :hugs:

xxx

Vitfa - towards end of feed N unlatches and grizzles then gets back on - don't think its an issue unless its uncomfy for you... i feel like the suction builds back up fast!!!!!

Keira screams if you change her before feeding her. If you change her after though she spits up no matter how well you wind her! So its a bit of a trade.

We are up at 3:30 for the first feed of the night since 11.

Glad I'm not the only one so worried about SIDs!

Also, is everyone still on cotton wool and water for nappy changing or has anyone switched to wipes yet?

Used wipes from day 1 :winkwink:

I always buy the unscented, most natural ones

In the Uk, the 'Simple' wipes were the best

Thanks for the wipes advice lads. Think we might use a combo. Wipes for dirty nappies and night changes (for speed) and wool/water for pee's. See how her bum reacts.

Lozza, so so pleased you had a good nights sleep! It makes such a difference doesn't it! :hugs:

Waula, MsCrow has had to go to her parents as her grandfather is very ill and her father is back in hospital. I really hope everything is ok.

Well, anything I'm bothered about I'm just going to post on here...it is obviously the miracle cure as we have done our first ever nappy change (ever!) without so much as a wimper! Huzzah!

Hope everything is ok huge and thoughts to her

well we got 3 hours solid in between constant feeds

Has anyone else not got a patontern amd still feeding on demand ? E is a week old tonight

l

F did not sleep all night! :haha: woke at 1 and 4. Not terrible but not great the tiredness is really startng to back up now :( ah well, only a few more months

Emera, sorry about F's bad night. Hopefully today will be a completely different story.

Vitfa, because D only gets up twice in the night we have to compensate with more feeds during the day to make sure she gets her 8 feeds in, so we tend to go every 2ish hours during the day, but she often starts grizzling for it after 1.5 hours so I just try and put her off (if I can) because I find she is just topping up rather than having a proper feed.

lozza - sounds like you had a great night! I'm worrying about temp of room too. I've got a gro egg but I don't trust it!!! 18 feels really cold to me. I tend to gauge it by if I'm comfortable in a long sleeve top room is warm enough. we have a big bedroom and about 21/2 seems right to me. Jacob has a swaddled blanket and doubled over cellular.

I've been using cotton wool and baby wipes. I tend to use baby wipe first, but scrunch it in my hand for few seconds first to take chill off it, I then use large cotton wool pad to dry area as the wipes tend to leave it wet. then finish with sudocrem and so far so good. I also always use a towel on changing mat.

we've had about 3+hours in between feeds tonight so happy with that.

Vitfa - no routine at all here and we're 2 weeks old today! He does seem to be awake in the morning then asleep over lunchtime whic seems to have happened since about a week old but the rest of the day/night is completely random.

I'm guessing your milks probably come in the last couple of days too, that's when we went through a bit of a difficult latch period cos boobs were so large and solid, I used to massage/ hand express a tiny bit off first to soften them which made latching and stating on easier x
