March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

The pediatrician told me to feed 15 minutes from each side then pump the rest. Not sure how that will work for us. She said after a certain point the baby uses more energy than she gains, so a bottle feed will be okay. G has been on pacifiers from day 1 and had a little formula in the hospital with no confusion so I'm not that worried about mixing.

She is so chilled out right now! Laid back and just sort of sucking, like she's in a hammock with a margarita, lol.

The change in her since my milk came in is so dramatic! We call her a milk-drunk monkey. Last night she gave me two 2.5 hour sleeps (and that's with me waking her up). Also really relieved because she slept in her bassinet (between us on the bed).

Do you have My Brest Friend pillows in the uk? They're amazing!

just waiting on ours been delivered - do you have one

Missy, hooray for a good night! Makes the days do much better.

MsC - so pleased about your dad getting to spend quality time with E, and glad the train ride was a success.

Laura - I'm pretty sure that you're fertile while bf, the myth about bf being a method of contraception is just that, a myth. Midwife in the hospital stressed I could definitely get pregnant right away! Not that I'm planning to DTD for a while... Stitches definitely still there!

Just found out my friend is 11 weeks pregnant due on my bday in oct so we'll have a few months maternity leave overlapping!

Slings, I take F out after a couple of hours to have a nice stretch and usually she wants a feed by then. If its a sling rather than a bjorn type carrier it should be pretty supportive :)

Sex! Careful lads, I got pregnant whilst BF (and MCed but still). Also my friend got pregnant 4 weeks after birth, so careful careful careful!!!

It seems to.be working for us.....M piling on the ounces and goes 3-3.5hours at night...for a LO i think thats average :)

we get weight done tomz - we are anything btwn 1.5 - 3 hours - im pleased with that

so ive lost 2 stone in a week - back to SW tomz ( prev lost 4 stones with them ) gave it when preg

Hubby is coming nowhere near me til i get sorted with birth control!!!! Sorry about your mc emera x

lozza...great news about your friend :)

msC - glad your dad has spent time with baby

thanks too those who replied to my Qs about sticky eye and reuseable nappies.

we went to A&E today about the eye. It had swollen up so much R couldnt open it, it was read and gunky. NHS direct said that babies with potential conjunctivitis should go to A&E as it can permenantly affect their sight. Doc took one look at it and said def NOT conjunctivitis and just sticky eye!! completely unconcerned with how swollen it was or anything! so good news

took R to church for the first time today and about 10 mins he starts crying for a feed even though i fed him just before. I ended up breastfeeding in the church porch (luckily there was a chair) for 20 mins! he got his first blessing which was nice

so so tired after today so early to bed and a lie-in scheduled for tomorrow

Hola mamas! HAPPY EASTER!

Tried to catch up but had to start just a few pages back or else i would never make it :haha:

Crow - i saw ur post about your dad and it made me weepy with happiness,i love how much joy our LO's can bring to grandparents xxx loads of love to you hun xxx

DTD - so im confused... i know ive had a c-sec so need to wait (altho in truth im REALLY ready for it  ) but i thought even after a natural birth we had to wait 6 weeks due to infection or something?

also, like emera, my friend got pregnant straight after the birth of her baby using BF as contraception... so thats defo a myth :haha:

cant believe im about to say this but not only am i ready to DTD but im already thinking that christmas time would be perfect to conceive our 2nd ... .... (i always wanted children close in age) .... how quickly the mind blurs the awkwardness of pregnancy and sheer pain of labour!!

Loo - im sorry to see your going through it a bit at the mo.... any progress with little D?

Boobs - ive finally noticed that mine DO get a bit harder... hadnt noticed before. Im obviously NOT very observant :haha:

cupcake -
so glad its just sticky eye :hugs: Ive had conjuntivitis a few times and its HORRIBLE. so great news xxx

Has anyone elses LO already got a feeding routine? for 7 nights digs has fed midnight, 3am, 7am, 11am.... almost on the dot. He prob wont tonight now that ive said that tho :haha: Daytime is still pretty much all over the shop tho!

sorry i have no advice on vomit, latching, expressing etc.... im too new at this to pretend i know anything lol.

im actually thinking of expressing soon seen as tho digs is such a great feeder... but we will see.

About vomming! If they aren't upset by it and are gaining weight fine, then vomming isn't anything to worry about, gross and laundry-inducing as it is! If they scream about it before or after, or they are failing to thrive then its probably something to try and resolve. Personally i'd rather have a sicky baby than a windy one, as wind makes them really uncomfortable and upset!

As for sex, hmm, i don't feel totally ready, and anyway, i soo want some contraception before we go there!. Saying that, i think i've decided i want another one....i must be mental! Might have to work on OH though, i don't think he's keen on the whole pregnancy part again! Such a role reversal, i always wanted 2 and OH wanted loads! :haha:

So tired Lads....

Its so hard when DD2 wakes at 5-6am for a bottle,, then DD1 hears & wants to get up for the day!

 < wish this was me right now!

Wehave fed constant from 8 til 12 and now again from 2 - im emotional and physically knackered.

im in agony with piles tmi -note to self take prescribed meds

Vitfa-I'm having one of those nights too. Sure he's just got wind but we can't shift it. Feeding is the only thing stopping him crying but I don't know if im compounding the problem. Hard to resist though when he's woodpeckering at my neck and crying

I thought last two nights we establishrs something but no. need to be up ready and out by 9am aswell.
Is it normal 5 poo nappies in 1 day

Vit - normal nappy amount. Sorry such a bad night, know how tiring it can be

Dtd - ready? You must be kidding. Apart from being terrified I will get pregnant again, I'm still so sore below not just with stitches but with piles too (hurt like hell). I'm using cream but feel no relief really. Anybody with good cure?

I offer both boobs. I go back to the one that was not emptied from previous feed and then offer the other. It seems to be working so far? I did it differently with d but then he'd feed for longer on one boob. I think it depends on how efficient they are at feeding too. B seems to be fed up with one boob after 10 - 15 mins, no matter what I do to make him take more. Yet, offer him other and he will have another 5-10. I then offer that boob first next time. I did bf last time but baby so different. What would you recommend missy?

Edit - during day, feed more off one boob though if grisly and cluster feedung

MsC - your post brought tears to my eye :hugs:

Mouse - :yipee: the cluster feeding here was to obviously get my milk in too as 2nd night on trot baby has been happy and needed waking. Although, just woke me up but 3.5 hours from beginning of last feed :)

So got check tomo at clinic and heel prick test. I'm wondering how much lost? He seems to be permanently attached to my boobs!!

Vitfa- Everytime we change B's nappy there is at least a little big of poop in it!!

Widger - with regards to the piles what cream are you using - i discovered mine last night + pain the asd no pun intended

Woah! Middle of the night poonami! It leaked not only onto her vest but all through her babygro too  poor baby!

Vitfa and Lozza, I'm so sorry for the bad nights. I'm getting them during the day, which I guess is better but it's still draining and stressful :hugs: Lozza, I feel the same about compounding the problem with extra feeding, but what can we do? It's so difficult to hear them cry when you know a feed will soothe them. It's tough.

Widger, good luck for your mw weigh in and heel prick test. I fed D during hers and though she screamed, she was too hungry to be upset for longer than a second or two!

Well M was grizzly from about 9-10:30 last night....hubby thought wind/tummy gas and thought she was trying to.poo with no success. Fact is she usually does the poonami session mornings....little poop in evening/night (by comparison ha ha).

He was expecting a bad night but she went down at 10:30 ish...fed at 3am and then 6:45 so a great night really. Does anyone find their LO then feeds alit il about 11am ish....M seems to.want to top up the reserves she lost at night with 7:45.....probably again at 8:30-9 and again before 11....so more like 1-1.5hour feeds. Not a problem and would prefer that to.more night feeds.....but would like to.doze off during a lay in. No.chance....though hubby manages it grrrrr.

She is snoozing on.bed between me and hubby do.i.risk relocating her??!!

Same question as others really about wind.....i am sure she has some trapped but i.cant get it up. Anyone elses LO hardly bring.up any burps during/after feeds??? Feel bad when sje doesbt but maybe there are none there??!

I was told that it's completely normal for BF babies not to have as much burpage as FF babies, particularly if they have a great latch and are feeding efficiently. So, Mitch, it old be that!

I now officially feel, amazing. I expressed off two feeds worth yesterday and then slept in the spare room last night and DH fed and looked after A. Amazing although I felt a bit weird being away from her but was only awake for about 30 seconds after I'd got into bed.

Laura, congratulations on the full nights sleep!!!

I'm slightly jealous about those mums expressing a feed. Only thing is that bottle feeding causes more wind, and she is already in agony with it so don't want to make it worse. Maybe in time.

Mitch, D never brought up any wind no matter how much I sat there winding her until I started using infacol. Overnight especially she has started bringing up lots of burps now. I also use the winding method you said about. It really seems to work, though not sure how she feels about being held under her armpits!

Good night for us. Put her down after a 10.30 feed (after bath again) and she slept until 4, feed then through to 6.45. However let's see if she wants to make it a hat trick of screaming day times!!!

Vitfa, I forgot to say before...2 stone in a week  fabulous! I'm at sw too, but have a long way to go so just chipping away at it!
