March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

Happy birthday, Roh!

Emera, I wish I could explain how we sleep on the couch. It's a tiny couch and there's literally no room for her to roll anywhere but onto my chest... But we won't be sleeping that way anymore.

Last night was hellish. DH doesn't even want her to feed next to me in bed. So I got about 30minutes of sleep between 11 pm and 3 am. She cried the whole time. What a cruel trick of nature that they poo AFTER they feed and get all cozy! Argh! She hates diaper changes and wakes up screaming. I tried sleeping in a chair next to the swing but my neck was stuck to one side or the other all night.

Feeling very mad that DH is here but working downstairs all day. I can't do this alone yet. I only make it to the bathroom about twice a day.

The good news is, after our marathon awful night, G was so tired she slept in her co-sleeping bassinet for two hours.

Do you know hat my big accomplishment was yesterday? I found time to trim my pinkie fingernails and file them so I can break her latch. At this rate I'll do the whole hand by Friday. :haha:

Mouse....M hated nappy changes to begin with...screamed like crazy. We have an over the cot changer and have a mobile over it so now wind it up generally during feeds if she looks like shes about to kick off..its helps to distract her. I also talk to her alot with a really high pitched voice...very soothing...she seems to like it.

Why doesnt you DH want you feeding LO next to him in bed??!!!. I always pick M up and feed her in bed usually by the light of my mobile phone rather than switch side light on....helps to keep her dozy. I need a lower wattage bulb or different light...still need a little lighting to check she latches ok.

Also i tend to feed in 2 stages as i know M will very often poop or wee between these feeds....means the second feed will help her drift off again and calm her from.nappy change.

You need to speak to DH about giving more help....G is still so young and you need support. We are here for you.....:hugs:

OK peeps, what if your 4 week old baby is 11lbs 8oz and thinking of outgrowing his moses basket? theres no room in our room for his cotbed and i'm not ready to move him out to his own room. What do we think? Something like this maybe?

City I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought you were being unsafe! :hugs:
I'd say though if my OH had problems with me feeding F in the bed whatever his problem with it was, he'd be kicked out of the bed so fast he wouldn't know what had happened!! He defnitely needs to back you up a bit more, its stll very early days! :hugs:

I agree. I have a night light and always bring T into bed, If OH is snoring i bang the door when I take the baby out to change him. Men suck!

Missy my phone doesn't like your link so can't see it, maybe a travelcot would fit though? They are a bit smaller. Some of them you can have a raised base or they have a bassinet hung inside them, although T might be a bit big if he's fllng a moses basket. They have a good selection on display in big mothercare stores so you could go take a look. X

Emera - That's what the link is!

Missy - That looks like our cosleeper https://www.amazon.com/Arms-Reach-Mini-Co-Sleeper-Bassinet/dp/B000HKY1GM Edit - Meant to say it works well.

Missy - I think that travel cot looks fine.
Edit - kym that cosleeeper looks really good.

My DH is sleeping in the spare room u less we have visitors, means he gets a full nights sleep now he's back at work. Also means I can feed in bed although I was doing one or two feeds in bed when he was in it. If they went on forever I used to go to the nursery and sit in my rocking chair, partly that's because it stops me falling asleep mid feed! For the first 2 weeks though he did help me out through the feeds, well I'd feed and nathan would do the change/wind. Give your DH a kick mouse.

Ft - I didn't reply to your cord question because I can't remember! It's pretty much looking like an innie now though I think. It's virtually healed completely.

R's button was an innie as soon as the stump fell off

yuck - i just thought my arm was feeling damp and poop has seeped through the nappy and clothes. best go and change him AGAIN

we had a truly awful night last night. no sleep from 1am.... i have been busy napping this afternoon. fingers crossed for a good night tonight.

i have all the nct girls coming to me tomorrow. i can guarantee i have the smallest house so a little nervous about how we are going to fit everyone in

baby has started clamping his gums down on my nipple at the end of a feed and twisting his head and pulling on it. google says either too much milk and he is trying to stop flow or not enough and he is frustrated.

any ideas? i think suggestion 2 as today he took a second boob for the first time.

lovely announcements glow!

emera - i have very fond memories of duplo as a child. i cant wait to get some!

great weight gain lozza!

Lozza, sounds like you had a fab mw appointment! Great weight gain!

Missy, that travel cot looks perfect! Good job with T piling on the ounces, but gutting that he no longer fits in his basket

FT, not sure about D's tummy button. It looks so tiny and squished it could be either! She's so skinny though still it could go either way.

Emera, I need to see this fruit dinosaur! Sounds amazing!

Is everyone using their rockers/gliders/chaises for feeding? Just wondering if to buy one for D's nursery or if I will use it at all? I feed in bed at the moment during the night.

Busy busy day. D's not a happy bunny still. I just hope we have a better night than last night. Feel really weepy at the thought of so much night screaming again.

loo - i feed in the nursery at night. i don't have a glider but i sit on a sofa we have in there. i tend to do the bedtime feed in my bed and then the middle of the night ones in the nursery.

i think if i didnt have the sofa then a glider would be lovely. i never realised when i was pregnant how important it is to be comfortable when breastfeeding.

im slightly apprehensive about tonight too, i need some more sleep and am really hoping that we dont have another night of crying too

:hugs: Thanks, mamas. Turns out DH's company had two servers go down simultaneously last night so not a great time for him... Luckily it was the best case of the worst-case scenario.

Kymied, that's the co-sleeper we're thinking of, if the bassinet doesn't work. Here's our bassinet: https://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infan...s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1334171640&sr=1-6 --only we paid $40 at Target.

DH is just nervous about her being in bed because he doesn't want me to fall asleep and roll on her. The bassinet would be perfect, if she would just sleep in it! We're thinking that on the rare occasions we can put her down, we need to start doing so in the bassinet or pack & play so she gets used to them.

Oh, and we nurse mainly on the couch with the Brest Friend. Tried the Boppy last night and it doesn't compare! I did find that a horseshoe travel pillow is handy if we do feed in the glider. But the couch is my domain! Plus I can watch tv out here.

Missy - Kiddicare do a space-saver cot which is smaller than a normal sized cot but lasts up until they're 18 months and it's not pricey either. Here's the link.. https://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wc..._advert-_-Kiddicare.com Compact Cot - Natural

My glider chair probably is the comfiest place to bf, should use it more but often can't be bothered to get out of bed at night, or come upstairs during the day. I'm in it now though, hoping to finish this feed and put him to bed. He napped 5-7 though so not hopeful!

Mouse - I got our co-sleeper off Craig's list for $70. I think it's great, he's learning to sleep in it but needs to be swaddled and up against the side, it must be a closeness thing.

I nurse usually on the couch, on my bed (at night) or in the LO's room on the day bed that we have. We have a rocking chair but the hard seat didn't work well with my sore bum that I haven't really tried it. I have found he likes to nurse sitting still anyway. However he loves to be rocked for comforting. For that I usually put him in my Moby and either walk around or rock back and forth on the couch. I've tried to figure out nursing in the Moby but I feel like I'm shoving him in uncomfortable ways and my boob still ends up exposed anyway. I guess I need more practice.

Managed to get both kidlets bathed and in bed by 7.30pm, good stuff! F was up 30 minutes later though having done a giant poo, and then decided to do a bit of a feed, doze, feed, doze thing for the last hour before finally giving up and conking out! She was so tired bless her! All Roh's little friends wanted a cuddle :) She probably has contracted about 4 different colds/sniffles from today though, toddlers should come with a biohazard warning! :haha:
Glad you are all excited about the fruit dinosaur, it might not be as impressive in reality as it is in your minds though!! :haha: It was basically a tinfoil blob with lots of different cubes of fruit (like mango, melon etc) stuck to it with cocktail sticks and then kiwi and strawberry slices for the spikes and pineapple legs. Possibly it looked more like a wonky turtle, i was going for stegosaurus ..... i'll try to sort a picture for the curious, if i can get some off my friend. I was way to short on hands to take photos myself sadly! :(
Oh my, i'm absolutely shattered! Zoo trip, presents, toddler party (thankfully small and short) and then a Duplo session and getting everyone fed and to bed has killed me! Plus dinner party last night.... I have my friend who is pregnant with twins and her daughter (Roh's best friend) coming over tomorrow and then my Dad and stepmum on sunday. Phew, glad i get Saturday off! Very happy OH is about this week to help out!
Going to have a very hot bath, a hot chocolate and crawl into bed!

Oh and as far as feeding goes, either on the sofa in a lotus type position with a pillow on my lap, or in the glider chair, also with a pillow. Otherwise with F in the sling when i'm busy, and at night lying down in bed with her next to me. I draw my knees up and put my arm out above her head. I have a cushion between my knees also. The position i sleep in makes it really impossible to roll towards her at all. If i get sick of sleeping on my side then i roll onto my back. I never have her between myself and OH. If i need to feed from the "wrong" side, then i'll sit up and feed her rather than risk falling asleep with her next to OH. I know that i won't roll on her, but OH might do.
I'm amazed how aware i am of her. If either of us stirs i partly wake to check things. Its not as deep sleep as i would get sleeping alone, but its alot more sleep than i'd get mucking about trying to settle her in her basket! I'm looking forwards to getting the co-sleeper cot sort out (it will take up alot of space so we are putting it off until she won't fit in the basket) as i can shuffle her back over to the cot when she's asleep and sleep a bit more deeply ;)

Thanks for all the bed chat! Emera I was considering the travel cot idea. Or maybe a cosleeper. My mum thinks I should just put him in his own room! No waaaay! He's staying with me forever...

The fruity Dino sounds Fab. What an ace idea.

Ft I'm still nit sure about T's belly button. To start with it looked like an outy but today I've thought it could pop in.

Based on you ladies influence I tried a bit of a routine tonight.. bath, feed, hug, bed... lets see his long this sleep lasts...

Oh and I feed at night in bed. Usually lying back on pillows with him on my chest, sometimes lying on our sides. In the day just sitting back on the sofa. Sometimes at night if I change him and he's grumpy then I feed him on the rocking chair. Its cold out there though! And the costs harrass me.

just a quickie to Mitch - yes like postcards so I'm writing a personal message on the back x
