If you are entitled to OMP so your employer pays you say 8 weeks at full pay then 16 at half pay, but no element of that is SMP because you are under NI contributions limits, how would a claim for maternity allowance work?

For example, if you earned £100 a week, your employer would pay you £100 a week for 8 weeks, then £50 a week for 16 weeks, then nothing. As this is below the NI threshold they would not be able to claim MA for you, so would you claim MA to 'make up' your OMP to full pay or would you get 90% of earnings on top?

Sorry if this makes no sense! Just trying to figure something out
