my doctor said im overfeeding my baby and thats why hes being sick...

This is a good read
https://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/T106004.asp

It's very detailed! Perhaps it can help you. Good luck! I also propped my little man's bassinet to 40 degrees at night to help ease his tummy. I know it doesn't help for the daily feeds but it might give yours a bit of relief at night too.
Night times arnt an issue. At the moment hes a dream! 9 till 6.30. We have his crib propped up with an old argos catalouge! Haha. Xx

I think sometimes that the GP's aren't too up to speed on things like reflux and don't want to appear as if they don't know. My lo has silent reflux and we were at the GP's again for him to see if we could get something other than gaviscon as he has got worse with his feeds, her response was pretty much well he seems like a happy healthy baby maybe you should just continue the way you are  Luckily my HV is much better and is going to speak to the GP about trying him on Efamil AR milk. I don't think in any way that you are over-feeding :hugs:

havnt read other replies but sounds like a load of rubbish!

olly has 5 bottles a day all made up with 8 ounce in, hes a very hungry little boy, at 11 weeks he weighs 15lb 3 ounce and the health visitor said thats perfect! xx

thanks guys, im gunna go see my hv at clinic on monday and see if she has any advice. She was the one who diagnosed him, hopefully she will talk to my doctor. Last time i saw her she said he was eating the right amount but to go back to the doctors about his reflux. I just cant win. X

hi, just thought i would share my story with you if thats ok...my third daughter was sicky baby from the start, she was diagnosed with infant reflux at 1 week old after being admitted to hosp with breathing difficulties...your doc is talking nonsense about over feeding, i dont see that the amount your feeding your baby has anything to do with his reflux, my baby was given the camera down her throat and we saw through x-ray exactly what was going on and she defo had reflux, i had her on the same milk as you and she was prescribed infant gaviscon powders to be put in her milk, carabel which was a thickner for her milk to help keep it down as her the top of her stomach never closed hence the reflux and another powder similar to gaviscon, all to be added to her feed, i also had to have her cot tilted at the head end so she never lay flat and this did help in keeping her milk down...i can assure you your baby will grow out of it, the doc told me it takes about a year when they start on more solid food and are upright more often, and at around a year old she stopped all her meds and was a happy toddler...you are doing everything for your baby and it is more common than you think x...sorry if that was a bit long x

I, too have been told I'm overfeeding my baby, but when I consult other mothers, they say I am feeding him perfectly fine. My baby was eating 4 oz at about 2 months, and I was told I was overfeeding him and yet, he was underweight!
Now he is almost 17 weeks old, and he eats 7 oz and he wants MORE afterwards, so like others have said, i don't think you're overfeeding at all.

Hi there,
Didnt want to read and run. My LO was diagnosed with severe acid reflux at 2 months. He would vomit after most meals... and then continuously for several hours after the feeds. Does your LO vomit several hours after the feed or just immediately after?
To me, it sure sounds like reflux - I would ask to speak to another doctor, or ask for a referral to a pediatric gastro specialist (or something similar).... there are alternative medications out there if you need them.
How's the weight? Some babies with reflux will continue to gain despite the spit up, others lose weight....

You are doing a great job no matter what anyone says; hang in there - invest in a lot more plastic-back bibs, towels and try to stay positive - it will get better...

Take care,

Purple

PS will keep an eye on the thread to see how you do with the HV etc :)

hi

you certainly arent overfeeding, babies are smart and they stop eating when they are full.

i hope you get a better answer from your HV

Thankyou for sharing your story, im definatly gunna put up a fight about getting different meds! Xxx

Hi, yeah some days he is sick up till his next feed, or constantly dribbling sick out. He is gaining weight he is on his own line between the 25th and 9th centile. But it fluctuates depending how bad his reflux is that week, for example he put 11oz on in 1week (i thought this was too much but the hv said it was fine its a growth spurt) but in the last 4weeks he has put on 12oz. I have no idea if this is ok? He has dropped abit on his chart but its still going up. Xxx

i found with jemma that when she was being sick she pulled her legs up to her chest, like they do if they have trapped wind but she did it when she was being sick prob because of the burning sensation she felt with the reflux, im not sure if all babies do this as my older 2 never had this prob but my HV was the first one that thought of reflux becos of this x

Firstly hun, huge hugs. Secondly, yes babies with reflux can and do projectile vomit, i had this with my first baby, he was breastfed and winded very well, but he would still projectile vomit. My HV said was reflux, my GP told me that babies do posset, and to stop worrying as he was gainig weight. In the end, he outgrew it when he started being upright a lot more, but we saw a significant improvement when we started weaning. When he was 4 months old he went onto formula as i could not keep up with demand milk wise and the projectile continues, so HV told me to put him onto hungry baby as was a thicker milk so may be slightly heavier and may stay down better, we saw a small improvement, but not massive. When we had 9 month check up HV and GP were there (Different GP) and HV asked about the projectile and a i said was gone, but had been a worry, and GP said, ''well babies with reflux do prjectile vomit, nothing to worry about mum''. I explained about our GP and the posseting and the new GP was furious, he said that as my baby was slightly early at 38+2 and had been breech and wedged since 26 weeks until birth he was much more likely to have reflux and was a classic case, and should have been medicated when first seen. The main thing is he outgrew it, my second baby was vomiting when in nicu and being given formula until my milk came in and they were like ''Breech baby, must be reflux'' so when we got home, his weight gain was poor and mw slagged off my milk and said if i didn't put him onto formula (The same as in nicu) to aid his gain she'd have him re-admitted, so i gave in and gave him formula and the vomiting started again, so this time we had gaviscon prescribed, but it didn't help, so i went against mw and changed his milk to a brand i liked and trusted, and he was fine, weight gain went well, and he stopped vomiting, maybe worth mentioning, he never projectile vomited. It's weird, but my lo with reflux couldn't get diagnosed for love nor money and my lo without was mis-diagnosed with reflux, to be on safe side.
As for over feeding, no you are not! When my second lo was 4 months old, he was on 9oz 6 times a day, and would vomit after the last one, after 3 days of this called hV and she agreed we could not go like this, and said for god sake wean him, he needs it, just do it. You will always get someone who says you're over feeding or under feeding, or breast is best and anything else is evil, or formula is best and breastfeeding is wrong, and it goes on and on, but whilst they are entitle to their opinions, it does not mean they are right. It's what is right for you and your lo that matters, i hope you manage to get his meds changed, my friends lo, had extremely bad reflux and he wouldn't even take enough feed to get the full dose of gaviscon, so she was given something she has to measure and syringe into his mouth, possibly ranitidine but not 100% sure, and he was better on that, she has to give more some days than others, but he is fine, but the screams and vomits nearly drove her mad, it started to make her ill too with worry and seeing him in so much pain, but like i said now he is fine and healthy, he's not the biggest baby in the world, that would be my lo, lol.
Really hope this all gets worked out for you both hun x

Hi hun, i havent read all the other posts so apologies if im repeating something already said. My neice has reflux so I know a little about it. Firstly gaviscon isnt the only thing that can be done. My neice was on 3 types of medication for her reflux, including the gaviscon, but the other two was given by a specialist after my sister's gp referred her to one at the hosp. Maybe ask your gp to refer you to a specialist for the reflux. Secondly when your gp says you may be overfeeding, he may have a point as babies with reflux can/should only take small amounts at a time. The specialist told my sis not to give her big amounts of milk. Little and often is the key with reflux if im not mistaken. My neice automatically would only take 2oz every 2 hours and would refuse anymore than 2oz anyway as it would make her extremely uncomfortable if she had more and she would just scream. 5/6oz isnt alot for a baby that doesnt have reflux but it maybe too much for your LO? It does get better - my niece is now almost 1 years old and now off the medication, although she still only drinks about 4/5 oz of milk. Do insist on being referred if you are worried as there is other medication. Hope that helps x

p.s keep little one upright as much as pos as this keeps the acid down and the reflux isnt so bad. YOu can even get a wedge like pillow for reflux to lie baby on in the cot she baby is more upright.

Thanks hun. My mum has mentioned giving him baby rice before his first feed to hopefully try and get it to stay down because he is always projectile after his first feed. I will speak to my hv about it first tho and see what she says. Xxx

My mum said the same to me, and gave it the ''it never did you any harm'' routine, in the end i didn't, but weaning was the turning point for us, and then being upright more knocked it on the head, luckily. I just hope you get it sorted for both your sakes x

not read the other posts hun so don't know whats been said - but tyour dr is defo on another planet!

Niall has really bad reflux, the only formula which helped was cow & gate soya it just sits on his tummy better even the formulas on prescription made it worse

ps I got told I was overfeeding, doing everything wrong was a terrible parent but Nialls pead was a 20something single bloke with no kids not even a younger sibling (I asked) so it did make it very easy to discount everything he said as comlpete crap and not let it bother me lol
