my doctor said im overfeeding my baby and thats why hes being sick...

I know i'm going to get called all sorts of name...but that is overfeeding, even a baby with reflux doesn't projectile vomit daily. 6 onces is a bit much..He should be taking 4 at the most...and of course he'll take it because some babies do not know when to stop eating..Constant vomiting is a big sign of being over fed
Thanks, your allowed your opinion. BUT.. He doesnt take 6oz, its anywhere between 2 and 5. He is sick daily and you cant say that on a day where he has a total of about 14oz is overfeeding him, he will still be sick. All i know is my baby projectile vomits EVERYDAY so it is possible.

My HV said to times the babies weight by between 2.5-2.7 and thats about how many oz's they should be on. I don't think your overfeeding LO. My LO is 10 weeks old and got weighed yesterday and is 15lb, 1oz :happydance:. He's as big as a 4 month old (not fat, just long). He has around 40oz per day and we keep track of his feeds in a little notebook we bought just for that. I've never been told I'm overfeeding him because he's always followed the 91 percentile line since he was born. Feed when your baby is hungry. I never deny my baby food because he doesn't wear a watch, all he knows is that he's hungry! He has projectile vomitted a few times. Once because i did overfeed him (he had about 4oz more than his full feed, but he was acting so hungry, i gave it to him) and once because he had a full feed and DH forgot to burp him :dohh:

They can, depending on how severe the reflux is, especially if it's GERD, but if that were the case I would hope the doctor would have picked up on it by now.

To the OP, have you eliminated the possibility of it being a dairy/lactose intolerance that may be contributing to the symptoms?
I hadnt really thought about it as my hv said she didnt think it was an intolerance. I will see her monday and ask her advice. X

your not over feeding him , the doc is talking pants!

there are other meds to try for reflux ask for a referal to the hospital if your not happy with the doc, they can look into intolerance too

Harrison is on his own little line between the 25th and 9th centile. X

I can't offer any advice but wanted to say it doesn't sound like you are over feeding him. My neice had horrendous reflux and projectile vomitted everyday, often more than once. She was breastfed (and they never once said she was being overfed) and was failing to thrive as consistently underweight. She ended up in hospital for tests and came out with two medicines which had to be put into her mouth with a pippette thingy before every feed. Gaviscon did nothing. Things got better, and then significantly better when she was weaned. Hang in there, my sister had a terrible time and felt like such a bad mum at times (which she wasn't) because my neice screamed in pain so much and never slept. They did find all the cot wedges etc helped a lot to help her sleep if that is a problem for your little man. Change Dr's asap. As mums we are all so senstive about feeding our lo's - its a big responsibility (particularly us first timers) and comments like that make us feel very insecure - your doctor should know better. I would talk to your hv as the others had advised. Hang in there, hope it gets sorted quickly. xxx

Im the same as you..my boy is now 5 month and hes been doing this pretty much since birth...i also saw 2 docs as i wanted a 2nd opinion ...hes also been on baby gaviscon didnt help! Basically they just outgrow it as long as there puttingon weight are healthy and alert theres nothing much to worry about...the annoying part is constant changing of clothes for me and him.

My daughter had the same problem she outgrew the sickeness at about 8 month x

bloody doctor! shes talking out her bum.

ollie was takin 4x8oz at that age sometimes hed take 9oz

ollie takes gaviscon aswell but my hv asks everytime i see her is it still working because we can try other things xx

They just automatically think your over feeding...my boy was a 10lb baby and he was taking 5oz with about 6/7 bottles in 24 hours but for his weight this was fine he should of actually been having 7oz per bottle for his age and weight...but hes now only just gone onto 6oz yet they still say your over feeding...talk rubbish the docs

I agree with hivechild about trying to feed smaller amounts and more often and see if that may help.

Also, have you tried Infacol for the wind? My son is BF but still had an awful time with wind so we gave him Infacol before feeds until about 6 mos. He's better now (nearly 9 mos) now that he is active...but I think he needed the extra "help."

I already put 5ml of gripe water in all his bottles to help his wind. I already feed him every 3 hours and thats a routine he has set, and he wont take a bottle before his is due one.xxx

Fair enough. Just a suggestion.

I can only share what I know in my experience and what worked for us.

My LO has reflux and is breast fed. I'm sure that you're probably doing this already... But I make sure that I REALLY burp him after each boob, ( rubbing as well as patting) and this has helped a lot in stopping him being sick. We still have the projectile episodes,
but they are becomming less frequent as he gets older. Good luck, xxx (ps I put a cheap tesco fleece blanket near me so that I can catch the sick on it... Saved me
many changes of sheets!)

Oh, sorry, just read that you burp him lots!! Doh!
Take care, x

This is a good read
https://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/T106004.asp

It's very detailed! Perhaps it can help you. Good luck! I also propped my little man's bassinet to 40 degrees at night to help ease his tummy. I know it doesn't help for the daily feeds but it might give yours a bit of relief at night too.

Gaviscon did nothing for my LO apart from give her severe constipation, took her off it in the end and just bought towels instead of muslins

even a baby with reflux doesn't projectile vomit daily

 :saywhat: - Sorry I don't mean to be patronising, but have you had any experience of a baby with reflux? I can't understand how anyone that has, could make this comment, and if you haven't, well, that's a really sweeping statement to make if you're totally ignorant of the condition.

I don't mean to come down on you like a ton of bricks, but trying to do the best by a reflux baby is really hard, and I don't think you gave the OP any useful advice, just criticism.

OP - our LO was born before 37wks too and has been troubled with reflux since about 3 months old - I had heard there's a higher incidence of reflux amongst early babies :hugs:. I would definitely go and ask for another dr's opinion, there is certainly other medication out there beyond gaviscon. I know some drs are reluctant to prescribe them, ours were, esp. because LO was gaining weight on the whole ok (albeit slowly) in spite of his spit up. I'm not sure what else to advise, other than to say, hope it improves soon, reflux is sooo tough! :flower:

Yeah that is a bizarre thing to say. Babies with reflux can projectile vomit hourly, let alone once a day.

No experience of reflux hun but I don't think your over feeding your Lo your doing fine and I would get a second opinion
Xx
