So we just found out that we are having a girl this past Monday and now I can't wait to start buying clothes! This is our first baby so I was hoping you ladies who have babies already might be able to help me out. What's the difference between newborn and 0-3 month old clothes? Should I even buy newborn clothes? Or just stock up on 0-3 month clothes since babies grow so quickly?

Unless you have a premie, I think you will use mostly 0-3 months. The kid will grow very fast at first, and you probably aren't going to be getting out much in the first few weeks.

I agree. Last time I got mainly 0-3. Think I got a couple of newborn sleepsuits & a pack of vests, one of which he came home from the hospital in :) Plus some people will probably buy you newborn clothes. I would swap those for bigger sizes if you can! X

My nephew is 13lbs and at this rate his 0-3 month clothes will look like spandex in a few weeks! I'm glad I didn't pick up any newborn clothes for him because it would have never fit at all...

Newborn only goes to 8lbs (from what I read on one), so I think 0-3 is the way to go, as some babies are bigger than 8lbs at birth.

NOTE: You'll need more diapers for the first 3 months than we have noted on this list. This is because every baby grows at a different rate ~ some babies will be in Size 1 in the first month, while others stay in Newborn for 2 months, etc. The amounts note on the list will get you started, and then you can purchase additional diapers in the size appropriate for your baby as needed.

I just bought a newborn outfit today because it was $1.50 brand-new at Target. I think my coming home outfit is also a newborn size (my other two kids both came home in it!). But, that's probably it for newborn stuff I'm getting. Maybe just enough to get through the first couple weeks.

Then, switch to 0-3; even those I didn't need much of since my other babies grow so fast. I gave away almost everything, so I also feel like I'm starting from scratch.

Buy newborn. Unless you know your child will be huge she will fit newborn for a while. My son was 6lbs 8.5oz at birth and he's still in tiny baby and newborn now. 0-3 is big it fits babies over 11lbs in weight.

My son wore newborn for quite awhile at 7.1lbs at birth and 20.5 inches...probably the first month. But those first days you are just home hanging out anyway, so I don't really think there's a need for anymore than 10 newborn outfits.. Sleepers and gowns are best for those days! 0-3 months, my son wore from the time he was a month old until he was about 4 1/2 months. All really depends on your babys size, so you're taking a chance when you buy newborn things. Keep the tags on until you see her!! :)

Wow....thanks for all of the great info ladies!!! :)

I was mainly buying 0-3 untill a few weeks ago my friend had her baby who was 8 lbs and she said all 0-3 he can't wear still massive & even some newborn swamp him! So I'm getting some newborn/ up to 1 month but making sure they say up to 10 or 11lbs not 7 or 8lbs!

Most newborn stuff goes upto 9lb 9oz (my son was 9lb 12oz so was only in newborn a few days lol) but defo agree with gettin a few bits of newborn in but not much as people will buy you newborn anyway, and girls tend to be the smaller babies anyway so she shud get more use out of them! ive got about 6 newborn baby gro's and have started stockin up in other sizes too!

Oooh same with nappies, coz my son was so big he didnt fit in size 1's to finish off a packet lol so dont buy too many at a time - Just incase! lol

My son was 7lbs 2oz at birth and was swimming in the newborn stuff, 0-3 was out of the question! What I ended up doing was buying newborn stuff off ebay second hand and then buying the 0-3 new. He ended up being in the 0-3 about as long as he was in the newborn though, every bubs is different. You'll prolly also find that different shops will have different 'sizes' for the Newborn, 0-3. I have a 3-6 sleepsuit that is so huge, it still fits my son now.

I've been buying a mixture depending on the price - more expensive items I buy 0-3 and cheaper items I buy newborn. That way I'm getting my money's worth! I got a newborn gift set from Mothercare while it was on offer for £15, that's got a bodysuit, a sleepsuit, a jacket, trousers, hat and mittens - so it's perfect for my hospital bag. I also bought a set of two cute winnie the pooh sleepsuits and a hat for £7 in newborn, I couldn't resist. But as the newborn stuff I've bought does up to 10lb, it might be a bit big on him at first, so I'm also going to buy a pack of 'tiny baby' sleepsuits from Asda. They're only about £5 per pack so if he's too big for them I'll just leave them at the hospital for any mums who've been caught out by a teeny one!
