I couldn't care less... as long as someone was lookign after me and bubs... The anaesthetist was really good looking, when he brought me my epi I wasn't showing anything... he then ended up in theatre with me.... oh well... him plus at least 4 other blokes had a birds eye view... nothing they haven't seen before i'm sure

I'm a bit confused by American healthcare in pregnancy. I only ever saw MWs, and usually a student doctor. My friend sees a consultant as well because of other issues.

I've only ever heard of OB/GYN in Friends!

Don't care tbh. He knows as much as a woman midwife knows, has delivered just as many babies and can be just as compassionate. I think it's a real shame that people don't let male nurses/docs/MWs/whatever work on them tbh.

OB is obstetrician (doctor or midwife who looks after pregnant women and delivers babys)
GYN is gynaecologist (doctor who specialises in female sex organs )

Well, 90% of midwives have not been through labour because they go to uni straight from school. Personally I think it should be one of the criteria - how can you help some on give birth if you haven't done it yourself? This is the case with women wanting to be a Doula (a professional who is there to help the mother and her partner/children etc during childbirth and the post-partum period)

oh dont get me wrong - I would never refuse, we are just another body to anyone in the medical profession.
my gp has given me smears and he is a he, I couldn't care less, I just think (plus having two babies) I am more contented knowing they know what I was feeling (all my Midwives had children of their own).
prior to the delivery bit I had various internals by different males when I was induced

I find it difficult even having my OH seeing my body. I could attribute that to many things, mainly sexual abuse or an eating disorder resulting in horrible body image, but the bottom line is that I wouldn't want a man delivering my baby, vaginally at least. C section would be a different thing I think. But I cried when a male doctor wanted to examine me', and luckily my mw understood and did it herself.

i had a male midwife for some of my checks and things but not at the birth. but to be honest he was sooo lovely and i would have been more than happy for him to deliver my baby. i wouldnt have a problem with it at all. If a man wants to get into that profession he must be passionate about it so...

I saw 2 male midwifes in my birth with R, Christian being one of them and I had the calmest labour ever. I was actually in hysterics at one point. 55mins long and he was actually better for my OH as he didnt feel so pushed out having a male explain everything!

I don't see as it matters. If we can do any job a man does why can't the reverse be true. There's bound to be lesbian midwives what's the difference between that and a man? It's just a job.

My regular midwife for the duration of my pregnancy was a male, his female partner delivered Jaxon though (she was the oncall midwife).

I will be using his services again, when I have my next child.

A friend of mine moved from Wisconson to Fargo for her pregnancy just so he would be her midwife.

I would PREFER a male midwife! I don't get along with other women, I've not had a female friend since I was about 8, so women are foreign beings to me.

It wouldn't bother me. The most important part is that I am comfortable with my midwife and she/ he shares, or at least supports, my views on pregnancy, labour and birth.
