OT - Usama Bin Laden is DEAD!

Absolutely nobody on this thread says he should be free and forgiven, rather he should have been captured, tried and imprisoned.

why though should he be imprisoned?
at who's cost?
it would cost more than anyone could imagine to keep someone like him in confinement.
It costs the UK tax payer £1,000,000 a year to keep Soham killer Ian Huntley 'safe' then you have the yorkshire ripper, charles bronson.... WHY should anyone have to foot the bill for their 'safe' lifestyle until they pop their clogs naturally?
What about new ID'S for jamie bulgers killers? keeping them 'safe'?
Sorry, but I like the idea of these sicko's getting the death penalty. They have no remorse, it is well known that they sit around inside bragging about their dirty deeds OR learn more.

We are NOT talking about indiviudals. We have said over and over again that victims are perfectly entitled to feel revenge, its completely normal. But justice should be objective.

And as someone who has been affected im unable to think like somebody who hasnt been affected. Maybe thats wrong but im happy to be in the wrong. I dont understand why anyone wouldnt want to see him dead.

I see it as this: By going in and killing him, along with others (who knows how many as the story has changed) They are committing the same crime as he was accused of.....murder, amd he wasnt even armed (apparently - that story has changed too) The American government has killed many in their search for Bin Laden. Why is it ok for them? Hypocrisy much? Plus it all just breeds more hate and killing

I am in no way playing down the suffering of those who have lost loved ones, but i dont see how more killing makes it right? :flower:

I used to live there... Chetwynd Barracks. Nice place. All my family are down the 'road' in Melton Mowbray too. Seems assumptions are being made all over the shop today :haha:
It's very easy to have a word or phrase taken out of context on the internet.

I live just off Swiney Way, we must have been neighbours.

Scary huh? :winkwink:

Not anymore!

Careful.. I may come back :haha:

EEK!!

How long did you live here for?

At the top of the hill? Only been inside the camp a handful of times. The estate I live in is built on old barracks ground and I worked at the Cornmill (the big pub near the main road) for 7 years, which seems to be the local hang out for all the squaddies when they're at the barracks. Small world!

I was affected by the bombs in Nairobi and vividly remember hearing the embassy blow up. However, I am not baying for his blood because I believe in love above all else. With love comes compassion and forgiveness. BTW when OBL started out, they were trying to get America to stop effing up the middle east. He didnt just spring up from nowhere bombing places. I don't condone his acts not abit, but every govt. must be accountable for how their past conduct led us to this present-day predicament.

Some mom on this forum has a sig about the battle between good and evil that rages within each of us. Good= love, understanding, forgiveness, generosity etc and Evil=anger, bitterness, vengeance, envy, etc. For me (and it wasn't always the case, its been haaaard), good prevails which is why I think OBL should have been treated same as a petty thief and the correct procedures followed.

Also, we have seen that evil begets evil, which is why we are all terrified of the repurcussions. As mothers we are primely positioned to change the future generations by teaching our LOs love and forgiveness. Surely at playgroup if another child snatches your LOs toys, you don't tell LO to snatch them back or whack him on the head? As humans we have evolved beyond such animalistic reactions. We must be the change we want to see in the world- we must lead by example.

Ahh Gandhi. Could not agree more.

huggermumof2 - totally agree with you!!!!!

people are often surprised that i dont support war, even though im a squaddies girlfriend. its as if im not allowed an opinion anymore now that im in a relationship with someone who kills for a living.

Ah yeah, I remember the days of killing for a living... damn you paper ... you will pay for trying to slice my finger off! :haha:
Re your opinion.. of course you are allowed one! Just run it by the CO's wife first :winkwink:
Are you in Chatham?

But then you could say this about any person held in the prison service. They all cost money to the tax payer so I can't see how this is any different. He should be imprisoned because our justice system (and moral code) means that we do not kill those whose actions disgust us.

At some stage the cycle of hate has to be broken though surely? Or the world will just get a nastier, scarier, more violent place to live.

On a day to day basis we deal with people we may not like for whatever reason and quite often we (well I) bite our tongues and get on with it because otherwise life would be too fraught with arguments, anger and confrontation.

I know this trivialises the matter somewhat. But my point is, and has been mentioned above, we have evolved past this kind of 'eye for an eye' mentality. We have tried to develop a society whereby if someone is accused of doing something wrong, we find out if that's true and if so we punish them according to our country's laws which is through imprisonment.

To go in there a pop a bullet in his head, we've regressed hundreds of years in my opinion!! The US government are no better then he is in my eyes.

And now... the cycle will continue because of it. Revenge upon revenge upon revenge until one day we don't even know what we are fighting for anymore, all we know is that we ARE fighting.

What a sad look into the future it is!

^^^ exactly

as long as the Middle East keep hold of their 75% of the World's oil reserves, i'm sure the fight will continue :nope:

IF one of us can figure out a new, environmently friendly and abundant energy source then that should stop the demand for oil then huh!

Nice idea. However I very much doubt OBL would have come quietly with us to answer some questions over a coffee and a peace pipe had we asked nicely.
So whats the alternative? Should we have allowed him to carry on? What would you have done?

Exactly! Currently, the United States consumes 25% of the world's oil while possessing only 3% of world oil reserves and I don't think there's a big push over there to look at dropping their oil usage to something more environmentally friendly (can any US ladies clarify this?)

He believed in going to heaven as a reward with hundreds of virgins; death wasn't frightening for him at all. Certainly not as frightening as a tour of afghan is for a soldier, or a fireman in 9/11, or a passenger on 7/7

I think he wanted power and money moreso than to be 'evil' - his beliefs were strong, and immoral but to him i guess they were normal.

i dont believe this is true. a man who doesnt fear death wouldnt of hid behind a women when faced with a gun.

he was a coward he did not want to die, it wasnt a reward for him he was scared to die. so no i dont think he got what he wanted.

I thought the claim that he hid behind his wife was confirmed to be false?
