OT - Usama Bin Laden is DEAD!

i just caught the end of the pakistan spokesperson who now says "the issue of bin laden is now history" :saywhat:

I think I heard on the news that he was resisting capture and that's why he was killed. They did say it was customary that he either be buried in land or at sea within 48 hours of his death. Not getting into the opinion thing much, but please don't generalized against all Americans. It's not right. It's like saying all British have bad teeth or all Scots are drunks. You don't like it and neither do I!

I think people are referring to the American government, not citizens. There is a huge difference.

It would be nice if all patriotic Americans would put the uncomfortable relationship between the US and Saddam Hussein, the US and Bin Laden and the US and Gaddafi under a magnifying glass before declaring justice. Let us not forget that the US somewhat helped shape Bin Laden into the man he was before he died by providing him with financial aid when it suited them. And with Iraq and Libya, it’s all about the oil, isn’t it? Thousands of innocent lives have also been lost at the hands of the Americans, do the families of those murdered civilians deserve justice too? Where do we draw the line?

Either or. Say the "American governement" then as opposed to "Americans." I've already spoken to a couple people who fear for their relatives because they are in foreign countries and are afraid someone will take out retribution on them simply because they are American. No one is going to stop and ask if they supported the decision of the government.

I think people would have to be pretty dense to refer to the citizens, all references to 'Americans' have been about the government not individuals!
So i think that part is pretty irrelevant!

Picture yourself in my position. I'm from California. Automatically, most people think I live by the beach and surf.

I have to confess that yesterday I did wear my Old Navy 'flag tee,' coincidentally dated from 2001. I tend to keep most things to myself in regards to politics, but admittedly felt very proud to call myself an American yesterday. :flower:

I also agree, if those using the word "American" would specify if they are talking about the government, we may not be so quick to have our backs up.

I understand what your saying....But the generalising your talking about isnt happening here!
:)

:haha: I got so mad at the Katy Perry song "California Girls" I kept ranting to DH that everyone was going to think girls in Cali went around in bikini tops and daisy dukes!

I'm going to tread lightly, but I find it fascinating that people are cheering about the murder of one man. He is a symbol of what happened in the States, yes, he may have had a part in it, or was the one who initiated it, but in the past ten years, terrorism in North America and the "war on terrorism" has turned into something else entirely. So, yes, in a symbolic way, it is "good" this man was killed, but will it change anything? No, certainly not. Look at Vietnam, look at Korea, wars begun for one reason and continued for entirely a different.

I was honestly shocked at the reaction I saw on tv from the americans. Cheering, singing, happiness. I just don't get it. How do I explain the murder of one man is something to celebrate? I, personally, don't believe in "an eye for an eye" method of being.

Totally Agree!

These words sum up how I feel about the whole situation;

I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.

This quote is amazing and I totally agree with every word but it is a hoax - it was never said by MLK Jr. It has spread really quickly since yesterday when it first appeared. Still, the sentiment is great!

(I googled it when I saw it on Facebook earlier today)

ETA just googled again and it seems only the first part is 'fake' - the latter part is a real quote by MLK Jr.

I think it is so true. To me it doesn't matter who said it MLK or not, if people lived by these words the world would be much brighter place :)

I totally agree with you. Murder shouldn't be celebrated - and killing a person is always murder to me, no matter for what reason you kill that person. Though I must say, I couldn't care less whether Bin Laden is dead or not. I am, on the other hand, glad they got him.

Nevertheless I don't think that the terrorism will just end, be it with a war or the death of the leader, or even if the USA had just not fought against terrorism at all, after 9/11. If you want my opinion, terrorists are psychopaths - they need others to suffer and to be scared, in order to feel great about themselves.

Bin Ladens death will not change anything, just like the war after 9/11 has not made things any better for anyone. Now, one of his sick friends will become the leader, and they'll just continue doing what they've been doing - plus, they are stupid and sick enough to believe in retaliation (just like Bush did).

Well, war is what happens when powerful men rather think with their dumbsticks than their brains...:nope: How does it say: "If women ruled the world there would be no wars. Just a bunch of jealous countries not talking to eachother."

I'd like that a lot better than what we have now, I must say. I hate war - because until the leaders of this war get affected at all, there are so many children who die in this war, so many fathers and sons who get tortured and killed, so many women and children who get raped and killed... that's just a part of what you hear from people who've escaped from war areas. It's not right to just ignore the fact that these things are part of a war - besides all these "bad people" they kill.

The only thing I was honestly happy about was, that no civilists got killed when they got Bin Laden.

The more i read, the more riled i get...

...So Obama, Hilary Clinton and other politicians sat in a room and WATCHED Bin-Ladens murder in real time...Popcorn anyone?

Is this even legal...?
