Morning Ladies :flower:,

A bit of a random question but I was wondering how old your LO's were when you first gave them peanut butter? Everywhere I look the 'guidelines' say something different :dohh:

Thankyou!

I gave my LO peanut butter at his 1-yr doctor's exam. I brought it with me in a little cup and gave it to him at the doc's office. The ped let us stay there for about 30min to make sure there was no reaction. I was a bit nervous about it that's why we opted to do it with medical supervision. He was totally fine with it and loves peanut butter now.

I've always thought they can have it from a year old?! I haven't given it to Millicent yet though as it's not something that I really eat either xx

It's fine from 6 months if there is no family history of allergies. Can't remember when we introduced it, but it was before 1 year.

Frankie started having it from 1 year, he had peanut butter on toast for breakfast this morning.

Still not yet and Sam is 21 months - too nervous! Bought some for him ages ago. Thinking of giving him a sandwich in the hospital car park sometime but not sure how ridiculous that is!?

I understand they can officially have it from 6 months.

6 months, now allergies in the family so no reason to wait.. He loves it!

We started giving LO peanut butter a month ago. We were told she could have it at a year but I was still really nervous. She loves it though!

We gave my son peanut butter at 6 months.

Thanks for all your replies! My LO is 16 months old so think we may introduce it to him sooner rather than later.

We have no family history of allergies so I don't think there's any reason to wait any longer.

I don't remember exactly but it was before a year old. We have no history of allergies on either side of the family so I wasn't worried about it.

6 months. My son just loves the stuff - I absolutely hate it!!

At six months because I wanted to get it out of the way. Only thing was that FOB never told me that he was allergic as a child :growlmad: It was horrible to see her react to it and then everyone was telling me that I was irresponsible for giving it to her so early :dohh: Glad to see it confirmed that I was't technically in the wrong...

My youngest has had it from 6 months- this is fine as long as there is no history of nut allergies in the family. The first time I gave it to him, however, I will admit to being conscious of being able to drop everything and rush to a and e should the worst occur... ie: made sure OH hadn't taken the car and had no other plans for the day.

We buy the Whole Earth stuff with no added sugar. You can also get other nut butters like cashew and almond, which are nice. Good source of protein.

I can't remember exactly, but it was before his first birthday.

I would've done from 6 months, but HV said since he has eczema and possibly asthma and reacts to dairy, he's probably more allergy prone so to leave shellfish and peanuts until 1 year. So he started having both recently, and likes them. He had peanut butter on oatcakes for supper this evening.

Thing is people can have an anaphylactic reaction to anything, not just peanuts. Strawberries, dairy, anything. I'm not sure if peanuts etc are more common as an allergy, more common as a serious allergy, or just more publicised.
