For anyone that's fed up of being kept up by itching...Sudocrem! (don't know if they have this in US) It has been my life saver and works 100 times better than the rubbish the dr prescribed.

Thank you for this thread. I have been tested for OC today and should have the results by tomorrow. I only started itching just over 24 hours ago and already its driving me mad, the doctor was ace and had me in this morning to have bloods done and have put urgent on them. And thanks to this thread I know to push for more tests if they come back clear and Im still itching.

Just a quick question, has anyone had extreme itching and it not turn out to be OC? What caused it?

I had extreme itching and got tested twice for OC. The results came back negative. After about a week of itching I developed a terrible rash with it too (see pic). It turned out to be something called PUPPP (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy). Not harmful to baby but very very itchy and uncomfortable until the birth.

I had very severe itching, no rash at all, for about 2/3 weeks. Absolutely unbearable, and I itched myself to shreds, and got hardly any sleep. I tested negative for OC, and thank god the itching finally gradually started easing off. Still now idea what it was! Cold showers are the only thing that helped me!

Ooohh raisin that looks terrible, you poor thing. And thank you Rose.

I got my results back, they are raised but normal for pregnancy apparently. Im still itching.
Ive got midwife on Tuesday so I will get her to arrange for a retest, I doubt much could get done over the bank holiday anyways.
I didnt get the actual figures so I may ring again later and get them. So I guess Im in itchy limbo for a few days yet.

The sole of my left foot has been itchy in the same place for a few days now. I thought it was dry skin but it doesn't feel rough and itches more at night. I had bloods taken on Friday to test me for anemia but I suppose they wouldn't test for OC unless I specifically ask for it. Is it safe to wait until my next midwife appointment next Thursday 9th of June?

Hi Everyone :hi:

I just had my blood drawn today to check and see if i have OC. :growlmad: My hands and feet are so itchy!! (I do itch sort of all over too though) I have found if i can stop myself from scratching my hands and feet, it's gets better and i can function normally for a while. Did any of you with OC have that same thing or were you constantly itchy no matter what? Also, last night to sleep my mw suggested that i take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to help with the itching and help me sleep. It worked WONDERFUL!! I was just curious if anyone with OC had found that useful either?

I'm trying to figure out if i have just normal pregnancy itching, early PUPPPs, or actually have OC because my blood tests won't be back until Friday.

Thanks for your help!! :hugs:

**UPDATE** My bloodwork came back normal; I guess that means I don't have OC!! Now if we could just make the itching go away......

Good luck to you ladies who are suffering with OC.

i'd go to doctors hun wouln't wait til midwife just because if it is OC they'll need to keep eye on you. xx

I'm currently being diagnosed with this i think. been back and fore to hospital, getting my liver scanned today.

they just have to monitor the baby's heart, baby's growth and your blood samples. if anything gets worse they'll induce you.

i just want baby here safe and sound!

im glad i looked into this thread. i have seeing this thread but didnt go into it as i thought it was something i would of been diagnosed with. glad now i know what it is. i dont have it bvut at least i know as i have never even heard of it! i was reading alot of the posts and its scary. there should be more awarness about it! i have just been told about pre-ecalmpsia but not this!!

Thank you so much for this thread, I have been gradually more itchy over the past few days but last night was the worst especially my hands and feet. today my hands and feet are bearable but the rest of me is still very itchy. I dont know whether to see the gp or ring the hospital, Im worried the gp wont have a clue what im talking about. I also supposed to be having a VBAC so if it is OC I hope they can keep it at bay so I can deliver naturally.

Argh, hoped I'd never be back to post here! I'm now having very itchy soles of my feet and between my fingers, it's horrible. MW has sent me to the hospital for blood tests.

My friend is suffering from this at the moment and is being induced next week (35 weeks) - she is uncomfortable and has lots of check-ups but she & baby seem fine (Thankfully).

Rose let us know how go go with your test results. I will find mine out on Tuesday morning, in the mean time I have been given an over the counter antihistamine to take. It didn't stop the itching but did make me drowsy enough to be able to ignore it and get some sleep.

Oh hadn't seen there was a thread for this. Was diagnosed with this 2wks ago, am on URSO and Vit K and have calamine lotion and piriton for the itching. Am waiting for my liver ultrasound in a few weeks. Last weeks doc said they say OC for a lot of things and are now testing me for a lot more...... said there is no real risk of anything but they would induce a singleton pregnancy at 37-38wks but since I've twins I won't be let passed 38wks anyway.... It is a worry re the liver acid being toxic to the babies. ..... been told to monitor movements very closely and any worries to call straight away.....

Got my results back today, they were elevated but they still wont know anything for another week, apparently I now have to wait for results on a bile salts test :(

I've been worrying about this for a while! but I'm a bit of a hypochondriac so i decide most of the time to ignore the little niggles i get.

I'm 33+4 weeks along, and had my last checkup at 31+6. but about a week before my last checkup I had terrible itching on the backs of my upper thighs that just wouldnt go away, and I had a rash that flared up on my shoulderblades. I didn't mention it at the checkup because it went away a day or 2 before. i was told then that my bp was normal, but there was protein in my urine (which i've been told throughout my pregnancy)
a few days ago it started again, but only lasted 1/2 days and went away. So I think maybe its an allergic reaction (i'd had the same hamburger at the same restaurant both times :p and the kinda lettuce they put on the burger was 1 i'd never eaten before. ate the whole thing the first time and only had 1 bite the second time which i figure is why it lasted longer the first time?)

does it sound like an allergic reaction (I've never had an allergic reaction to anything else, so i really dont know) or is it something worth worrying about?

how are you doing? I had this in my pregnancy and was induced at 40 weeks

Good thanks! Its all been a little stressful but I am glad I persisted. I do have OC and will be induced tomorrow @ 37+3. I think the induction scares me more than anything. I am just very thankful for threads like this, otherwise I would never have known to push for the right tests.

I hope all went well with your induction!

My induction went to plan and i got to 10cm with 1 pessary and artifical rupture of membranes. did not need an epidural. unfortunately he was in wronfg position and i could not push him out even with forceps so had emergency section. but it wasn't related to the induction just unlucky. don't be scared of the induction. the best advise i can give is rest/sleep in early stages. i didn't and by the time i was in established labour i was so tired. let me know how it goes xx
