*Please Read* Obstetric Cholestasis

After my app' today we finally got an induction date for the 4th! Ekkk I'm so excited. Can't believe it's so soon. This time next week Alec will hopefully be with us.

I am also unsure what to do. I don't have extreme itching, but a pretty bad one of my palms on hands and between fingers, and on top of my feet, and also legs and butt. I have an appt tomorrow, but my doc is super laid back, and I am afraid he will just brush me off... Also not sure if I gotta call them today, but it's Sunday. I am carrying twins and just over 36 weeks.

They just do a blood test - you can check the results yourself. If the bile acid levels are above 11 then you need to get treatment for it.

If he is laid back and the bile acid levels are above 11, just ask him about it, and ask about OC - get him to notice the urgency of it.

You just have a blood test. ^_^ I know when you have blood tests there are different coloured caps they use such as purple, orange, red etc... If they know they're checking for OC they should know what colour to use to check the bile acids in the blood. The caps just let the lab know that they need to test the bile acid levels.

Just wanted to say thank you guys. I went to L&D for the itching about a week ago, and it turned out I do have the OC, so my csection is scheduled for tomorrow morning instead of the 18th. It's such a relief! However, I wanted to ask, if I am having a csection, will they have to knock me out completely, or just use local anastesia? Last time I had a csection, I was awake during the surgery. What about if you have OC?

I had a natural birth with Alec though it was induced. He was born on the 4th and he's perfectly fine.

Pray for me guys itchy like mad , made myself bleed even on my palm of hands… nothing keep down even tea or milk throw up end on yellow acid , pain on liver it's constant . Went L&D they gave me pain med and do my bile salt test which result due after 2 weeks and ultrasound book me for Friday …

Thanks to this thread i went in for a third blood test tested positive for oc (34) bile salts(17) been suffering with severe iching for 8 weeks now made my skin red raw another blood test on tuesday i will be 37 weeks than discussion with consultant on tbursday for possible induction dates
Iv been told if you have oc for safety of baby induced delivery sbould be between 37-38 weeks any later you puting a risk on baby does anyone know what gestation is safe and what isn't

Thanks ladies xxx

If you go past 38 weeks it can increase the chance of still birth. I had my boy at 37 weeks and he's perfectly healthy.

I've been getting really itchy on my legs, especially at night - also feeling really hot to the point where I don't want to wear my coat outdoors.

Does this sound like I should speak to my MW?? I did think some itchiness was normal in pregnancy, how do I know if this is abnormal? The itchiness is fairly mild but is present a lot of the time.

I had OC in both my pregnancies and was induced early both times and to be honest that is how mine started. They then monitored my bloods every two weeks and put me on the meds.

I was diagnosed today :( i have to go in for more bloods doing tomorrow. They said i was borderline. What are they likely to do treatment wise? xx

When I was diagnosed in my first pregnancy they did a liver scan to rule out an underlying cause then started me on Ursodeoxycholic acid, Vitamin K and piriton and monitored me every two days, took bloods every few days then induced me at 38 weeks.

They are ringing me for a liver scan. I have been given that cocktail of drugs but they said that they dont treat the condition they just relieve the symptoms but can make the babies drowsy. I dont want to take them if its just a confort thing coz at the moment its not unbearable just annoying. I dont want any drugs to effect the babies movements :(

This gives you more information about the urso.

The vitamin k is because you may be at increased risk of bleeding heavily following the delivery of your baby. The vitamin K is given to help prevent the chance of this happening.

Vit K is the only one i havent been given. I think they are gonna check my bloods on the 28th to see if they need to give me that xx
