Hi Ladies

Just wondered if there were any other ladies out there with a high BMI who are pregnant? I have found an old thread on here of plus size ladies but it hasn't been written in since 2009 so I thought I would start a new one.

Would love to hear from anyone with BMI of 40+.

Im larger women not sure what my Bmi is but I was overweight with my other 2 pregnancys about 15 and half stone and im 5ft 6 now Im 13 stone so not as big as before but I carry weight around my tummy more this time which is funny as I weigh less! but theres lots of tummy!

I never had any weigh issues with my pregnancys before x

Foreverhappy- I'm also 5'6 and 13st and my bmi is 31.0
I have to have the glucose test at 28 weeks to check for diabetes as do most if your bmi is over 30 xx

my BMI is 37 and i saw midwife yesterday and all she said was that i have to be under consultant care and i get the glucose test to check for diabetes later on. apart from that everything is the same. xxx

Hi LilMissHappy

Thanks for that, i thought that's what happens a lot of blogs I have been reading about larger women they say it isn't much different. I am just worried about getting a horrible midwife or doctor who talks non-stop about me being overweight. Have you got a noticable bump yet?

I had a Glucose Test done with my first but more because its in my family,I didnt have one done with my daughter and will see with this one x

Oh your lucky i would love to have a noticable bump! i just still look fat! I have told everyone I am expecting though so I don't need to cover it up but typical isn't it that i want one now and haven't got one and you don't want one yet and have it now! :dohh::dohh:

popped over from 3rd trimester, hope you dont mind lol.
trust me, you will get a bump! my BMI is 41 and i started looking pregnant at 24 weeks. 11 weeks on and it looks like im having twins haha!
with me, i was given a gloomy report by the antenatal doctor at 10 weeks. i was told that i will have problems with blood pressure (never have btw) and i would most likely be diabetic. she was very wrong lol
my results from GTT were fantastic and my blood pressure is low. ive lostweight as my appetite has changed. im not under consultant care due to this and had one extra scan for growth but i didnt mind that as i got to see him again and they doubled confirmed that he is a boy :happydance:

Aww thanks for that mrs X. did you ever have problems with scans? and can i ask how much weight you have lost? iv been doing ww since may and have lost 2 stone. i took in a food diary to my midwife and she agreed that i have a really good diet and i can carry on until i wish to stop. will prob carry on until just in the new year. the midwife said that i should aim to stay at the same weight as i am now 6 weeks post partum. so i am aiming on being the same or a tad lighter than i am now before i deliver. i dont want to put on the 2 stone iv worked so hard to get off. xxx

I have a bmi of 43 :-/ my weight hasn't been an issue at all. The only person who seemed concerned was MIL..can't please her! But my midwife told her, aslong as baby is healthy and mama is happy and healthy...so what!

I've got a consultant appointment tomorrow because of my bmi, but like Mrs_X my gtt was perfect and my blood pressure is always low. I was dreading every midwife appointment, expecting them to make me feel guilty for being a chubba - but everyone's been great!

Congrats on your pregnancy x x x

no never had problems at scans. my 20 week one was booked at 22 weeks as they said BMI can restrict what can be seen but they saw everything they needed to. i had one at 7, 10, 22 and 34 weeks and all have been nice and clear :). so far i have lost 16lbs (UK) but really ive lost more as baby weighs at least 6lbs lol xxx

its reassuring to know that you can eat a sensible diet and loose a bit of weight and the whole eating for 2 is rubbish. people slated me on here when i said that i was carrying on with weight watchers and aiming on loosing a few pounds over the next 9months. xxx

I have a BMI over 40, and everything has been going fine here. I'll be 15 weeks tomorrow, and they had no problems finding baby at my NT scan two weeks ago. My OB has even told me that he's not going to give me a magic weight gain number which is a relief since I think that can even freak the skinny girls out. He's also said that it's ok if I lose weight, that he's had several overweight patients to lose weight during pregnancy because they change they way they eat for baby -- healthier foods, better choices, things they were unable to do for themselves alone. As long as I'm healthy and baby is healthy, then my doctor is ok.

I did have to do at glucose test early, at 11 weeks, due to multiple risk factors -- weight, age, recent miscarriage and family history. I didn't pass my 1-hour glucose test by a mere 3 points, but I passed my 3-hour test. Overweight women aren't the only ones at risk for gestational diabetes, though, so that's not the only reason to need a GTT.

I haven't exactly been making better food choices since I'm too tired to cook at home and food prep upsets my stomach, I have noticed that I don't eat as much as I used to. I've actually lost about 6 pounds so far without actually trying.

My best friend had her first child a few months ago in August. She's also overweight and was on Weight Watchers. Her midwife said it was fine for her to continue following the eating plan if she was comfortable with it. I'm not sure how well she stuck with things, though, as we live hundreds of miles apart now. If you do Weight Watchers meetings, they don't want you weighing in or participating in meetings while pregnant. Once they know you're pregnant, they won't track your weight anymore.

You definitely don't want to eat for two adults, which I think is the problem some women get into. Even upping your calories for baby, which shouldn't happen in the first trimester anyway, it shouldn't be 2000 more calories but closer to 200 or 300.
