Prenatal vitamin and constipation question

I suffer from chronis constipation and it was my naturopath who took me off of the materna. She put me on chewable vitamin b12 with folic acid and has me taking one full scoop of greens with it. I've been doing this for 2 weeks and my body is finally loosing the bloat. Like some have said here, go to a vitamin store and they should have some good brands and options without the iron. I feel your pain though. I wanted to screem when I found out my doctor recommended it knowing my issues. I never even thought that the iron in the pills was putting me into so much pain. GL

Thank You soon as i can get to the store im going to ask about this. what is one full scoop of greens? do u mean vegatables?? I think im going to now try what you said cause your issue is very similiar to mine.. being constipated sucks and the iron makes it so much worse.

The vitamins I took at first made me really sick, but more like nauseous and threw up even. So I started taking gummy flintsone vitamins. I have to take two in order to get the right amount but they're working pretty good for me so far. And it's kind of like an after-dinner treat! lol

A few people do this.. which gummy flintstone do you get? what does it say on the bottel? I looked and there were a few different gummys. Prenatals really suck with the bloating and constipation. I might try the organic ones or the flintstone. :)

Sorry JenniferAnn, I didn't see this before. I just found out that you can go to subscribed threads and see threads you've commented on. They just say Flinstones Complete, and on the back it says adults should take two a day. Has the right amount of folic acid so I went with it. They're not completely like gummy bears, a little more chewy, but surprisingly good! :D

Maybe take it before u go to bed, so you won't feel the side effect?

I have been taking the one above. It's great, 100% natural and vegan.
No synthetics like the over-the-counter ones.

I second this I switched to rainbow light after a pregnant g/f (with her third) stated its the first time she has had the runs while pregnant. It works wonders for me on a normal basis - I'm regular - better then before :)

Sorry for the lack of response to your question but I can never seem to find the same thread twice lol. The greens are basically a powder form of veggies that many people use in their shakes or just drink with water. There is a measuring scoop in the container so I use a full scoop. If you have never used greens before start out with half a scoop as sometimes the greens will help the body detox so you need to build up to a scoop. i try and find one with no artificial sugar and the stevia (for example) is further down on the ingredient list. It's super easy to take and I usually drink my as soon as my feet hit the floor.

It's taken a couple of weeks but I'm actually starting to feel much better since coming off the materna. My energy is back and the awful bloat is disappearing daily. Something else you may want to try is magnesium citrate. My naturopath put me on 2 pills a day and it's helping. She told me to stay away from the calcium at this point b/c it will also make you constipated. For the last week I have been going to the bathroom every morning (which might be tmi but it's a celebration for me).

Anyways, I hope this makes sense. Good luck.

Wow, I had no idea the vitamins were causing this! I would randomly get nauseous about and hour after taking it even though I had a meal first and I knew that was due to the vitamins, but I didn't realize the constipation was also a side effect. I just finished my second bottle of Nature's Bounty Your Life Multi Pre-Natals with DHA, (they were buy one, get one free,) and I found that taking a probiotic really helped with the constipation.
I also take an Omega Fish Oil supp and a Calcium supp.
I think I will check out the Rainbow Light pre-natals though as I wasn't thrilled with the Nature's Bounty one's.

Thanks for all the helpful advice ladies!

Be careful not to take a calcium supplement and a supplement containing iron at the same time. Iron and Calcium ions are absorbed in the gut in the same way and they compete with each other for cellular uptake. Best to take iron in a meal containing vitamin C and well away from any calcium supplements. Calcium supplements are best taken with vitamin D rich meals

Hey girl!

I've taken CitraNatal Assure with both my pregnancies, CitriNatal has a whole line of different kinds that help with different issues we encounter when we actually become pregnant, including one that helps with MS that I had to take for my 1st trimester. The CitriNatal Assure helps with constipation because it contains docusate sodium, which is a gentle stool softener, they're my favorite vitamins and I've tried SO many!!

Hope this helps ;) I included a link to their website, it explains why they're the best and how they work to keep you "regular" etc. :D

Hey can you look in the ingredience on your vitamins and tell me the (mg) of iron in there? the ones i have have 27mg of iron my old ones had 30mg of iron but im switching just didnt get a chance to yet.. and just curious, i read about them they seem very good and having the stool softner is a plus!!

It has a total of 35mg, but keep in mind that includes two different types of iron:

carbonyl iron and Ferrous gluconate, which studies show is safer than the ferrous sulfate found in many other products, and this combination has been patented by CitraNatal because it's known to be the most tolerable form(s) of iron

ok thank you... I cant find much on the ones my dr. gave me to try alls it says on the bottle is PNV-DHA thats it... ??? they are big blue pills that say BP-321 on them.. idk.. i dont even know what to call them and i havent been able to see my dr. for alittle to ask.. im actually switching doctors.

ok yeah, I think I've seen those before, idk if they're the exact ones you have, but I tried them out in my 1st pregnancy and they were like blue softgel capsules that had like white print with the BP-321 on them right? I only took them for a week because when I first got pregnant with DS, my doc gave me a HUGE bag full of every sample of different PNV they had so I could see which I liked best.

Yeah they have no name on bottle i called pharmarcist just now cause i was curious he said they are generic for prenate-dha.. :) so i guess thats what they are called. :)

I currently take the one-a-day womens prenatal. However, I'm not taking the DHA pills because they were doing the exact same thing to me. I was getting bloated and constipated and feeling very uncomfortable. And I have noticed a huge difference since I stopped taking the DHA. However, once I get preggers I will have to start taking it again, but I was thinking that maybe then it wouldn't cause me to have the same symptoms.

Good luck and baby dust!
