On another thread I was given a great idea to start protein shakes again. The powder I have currently I don't think is safe to take as it is derived from raw local milk, which I loved before but that's not safe to take while pregnant.

I found this stuff, sacha inchi, a Peruvian plant-based protein powder that is from what I can tell on Google safe for pregnant women, except basically every site I have found that says it is safe for pregnant woman is a site which sells the product!

Does anyone have any experience with this protein powder and know if it is really safe? If it is safe, it looks like an amazing protein powder since it also has balanced omegas and antioxidants and is highly digestible.

This is from my local organic grocery store: https://www.huckleberryfarms.co.nz/...kana+Superfoods+Sacha+Inchi+Powder+250gm.html

Found this but it says nothing about if it is safe in pregnancy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plukenetia_volubilis

I and lots of others had protein shakes and bars for IVF. One good one is solgar whey to go. You just have to careful they don't have anything in such as caffeine or green tea additives. Just try and get something with just protein in it which is quite hard.

You can buy stuff like pea protein to add into soups too.

I just ate lots of protein bars as I was drinking my weight in milk (high in protein naturally) and yoghurt (also high I protein naturally.)

It says it's a new product. It's not soy so that's good :D but I'd still want to know if it mimics hormones like soy does seeing that it's plant based. Soy products were banned in New Zealand & some European countries for children and babies as it causes infertility. I'd probably pick whey isolate rather than plant based proteins at this stage, unless you have allergies?? It does look like a good product though based on the manufacture claims :haha:

That's good to know about yogurt - I eat tubs of it! Have since the beginning of this pregnancy. Also good to know about solgar whey.

I just read this about the "sacha inchi" powder so just so everyone knows, sorry for bringing it up, it's advised to be avoided in pregnancy!! Shame on those other websites that say it's okay:

"Using Sacha Inchi Oil during Pregnancy

Not much is known about the effects of this vegetable oil during pregnancy. So, it is advisable to avoid this oil in any form during pregnancy." THat comes from https://www.onlyfoods.net/sacha-inchi-oil.html

Okay cool, I think I'll keep it simple and stick to whey or just a pure protein as I can get! Never heard of pea protein before? Is it good?

It's obviously healthy as it's made from peas. I've never tried it myself but lots of people I know have used it so can't be that bad.
