I had an emergency c-section with my last child which resulted in a classical c-section. I will NOT be allowed to try to a VBAC ever so I would like to know a few things:
1. Do they still check you for Group B Strep even if you aren't having your baby vaginally?
2. What happens if you go into labor before the scheduled c-section date? They are not allowed to schedule one before 39 weeks here and I have had all of my previous 9 children at 37 - 37 1/2 weeks. So I am already anxious about having another c-section as the first one was a nightmare and now I'm scared about what happens when I go into labor before my scheduled c-section date. Anyone with any experiences or knowledge I would appreciate aome feedback.

I'm not sure about strep b but I'm guessing it will be checked as part of the usual booking in bloods? If you went into Labour before your scheduled section they would just give you an emergency section. I know a couple of people who have went into Labour before their section date and they were very quickly given a section before they had a chance to progress.

Even though I had a C scheduled for 39 weeks, they made me test for group B strep and it was positive so I suppose that's another serious bonus for having the C-Section. They will tell you to go straight to your local labor ward if you start having contractions or if your water breaks and they'll take you in for a c-section from there. I'd recommend going in if you start contracting with any real pattern as they can check you and make decisions from there.

My OB did test for Group B Strep even though I will definitely be having a c-section. When I questioned why, I was told that "most pediatricians want the results, even if the baby comes via c-section." Not sure why that is, and interestingly enough, the OB didn't seem to know either.

If you do go into labor early, they will do an immediate c-section for you. But maybe you could try speaking to the doctor about special circumstances? They might be able to make an exception to the 39-week rule.

Not sure about strep-B as I was tested just in case, but I've just had DD about a week ago via c-sec even though my scheduled c-sec isn't till Thursday, if you have any patterns to BH/tightenings best to go in and get checked :).

I just had a c section 3 weeks ago. I know I was tested for Group B Strep but that was before it was confirmed that I was having a c section (there was still a chance that I could go natural).

Once I was confirmed to be having a section, I was told if I go into labor I am to go to the hospital with all the paperwork and they would do an emergency section.

I'm having my first baby and it's by scheduled c section. But my doc does the group b for everyone. If you go into labor before, they just do emergency c section.

Congratulations! Do you mind if I ask how it was? Did your water break or did you just start having contractions? I'm so scared I won't make it to the hospital, I have practically begged my Dr at every appointment to let me try to VBAC and absolutely no one will even let me attempt it as my emergency c-section in 2013 ended with a classical c-section instead of transverse cut to my uterus. I am being told the chances of my uterus rupturing are just too high.
