Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

PAdbrat!!! I didn't realize you were pregnant. I get all confused in this thread since there's no siggys. I hope everything continues to go well for you are you have a nice healthy bean growing in there! Good luck with your scan tomorrow!

awww thanks Hopeful. We had a scan today at 5+5 and I got to see the lil flickering HB. I am so happy cos it is the first time I have ever seen one in any of my pregancies as my babies have already died when I am scanned. Many miles to go along my road, but 1 milestone down!

I was tested as a kid for my translocation as I didn't grow much. I am lucky I had a switched on GP. PGD was suggested to us, but as I am 39 we would have to pay and it was just too much money for us. I would have felt calmer if we knew my egg was perfect, but I guess I will just have to trust in nature/God/fate to hopefully see this lil one through to my arms xx

padrat I am so happy for you, what a lovely relief and seeing your baby and heartbeat. I know its a long way to go still but you sound really positive and that is the only way to try and get through each day!!
x

Rabbit, Star and Love thank you so much. Am still painfully aware that so much can still go wrong, but for now, at this moment I am thrilled!

I like your positivity all you can do is take each days as it comes.

Hi Padbrat, you might remember me from a few pages back. I was the one in Ireland waiting for the m/c to happen as the embryo had stopped growing but the heartbeat kept going. M/C kicked in a few days ago and Im now just bleeding out for a week or so. It's was m/c No. 2 so I now the drill. Can I ask you about your translocated chromosome? Im also very small and didnt grow much. (Im 4ft 10) Needless to say nobody ever thought of testing me for anything but now I think it might be worth a look. Is it a blood test you did that found it? We had to do some pleading at the hospital when we went for the final scan to get them to put us forward for some m/c testing. It will take about 3 mths for an appointment. They usually wait until 3 m/c's but we told them we have major fertility issues (ICSI was on the cards for us anyway) and are not able to get pregnant again to have No. 3 m/c. We are also pushing things with private fertility clinic next week but if we can go armed with info back to the state funded hospital, hopefully we can get more tests done without paying for them. No fertility treatment is funded in Ireland so we have spent 1000 euro so far and looking at at least another 5000 for one round of icsi. We could do without paying for a ton of blood tests too. They run 150 - 300 a pop.

There are so many possibilities out there and nothing available here. No PGD (nevermind funded in anyway), No immunology level 2 testing, no egg donation. Our clicic wont even allow couples to have sperm donation. Nothing. So if we think we are getting no satisfaction, travel is our only option.

Padbrat, I'm so pleased to read that you got to see a heartbeat today. I bet you were totally blown away with it! I'm keeping my fingers very tightly crossed for you that everything continues nicely fxfxfxfxfx

Gillawaiting, sorry to hear that your m/c happened, even if you were expecting it :(
As far as I know, the test for translocated genes is called a karyotyping test. Both my husband and I had it done. We had to go to the hospital to give blood and six weeks later we were given the results. It's pretty rare, I think (padbrat, you're special! ).

Padbrat- Wonderful news!! I have never seen a heart beat either and I can only imagine how amazing that must feel!! I hope that things continue to go well for you.

Gillwaiting- Sorry to hear of your mc. Like petitpas said, even though you know it's coming I know how incredibly painful it still is. I hope you get some answers. So why are none of those things you listed available where you are? Is it just your particular clinic or not at all in Ireland?

Ahhh Gil am so sorry for your loss chick xx

Yes, short stature in one of the things affected by the translocation. Petitpas is correct, it is a blood test I believe. I think Karotyping looks at a range of chromosome potential issues and mine was definately re confirmed during my karaotyping in my last pregnancy. Apparently the Lab Technician had a minor fit when they saw it LMAO.

There are a couple of associated syndromes in my case specifically Turners Syndrome and Mosiac Turners Syndrome. In my case as there is only about 4 or 5 sets of chromome missing I am truly lucky to not be so badly affected as some.

Like you we were resorting to going abroad for ED as I was told my eggs were completely duff... in fact we are meant to be going next month for our consultation LOL.

Petitpas chick. Thank you. As ever you are a font of reassuring knowledge!

Hopeful... have to confess I did have a bit of a sob and couldn't quite believe my eyes..

Aw padbrat, you deserve good news. I have my fingers crossed this is a little girl you're carrying and that she is fit and well xxx

Thats brilliant honey., so encouraging to see the little heart beat xxx

Massive congratulations Padbrat, sending you my best wishes xxx.

Congrats Padbrat! I have a friend whose dh has a translocation too and they have had 5 losses now. Her doctor says they should keep going as long as they can handle and one time they will get it and it will be right and to never lose hope! They will get their perfect baby just like you! Hopefully there will be a success story from both of you! My fingers are crossed this is your forever baby :hugs:

As for me, my 3rd loss is in full force now :( I am relieved that I didn't have to wait to long though, that is always so hard. And they have taken me off levothyroxine because my thyroid is still too low. One less pill to take is fine with me! I am still nervous about taking these birth control pills and if I really need to do this. I am supposed to start them when I stop bleeding. I hope it doesn't mess me up even more

awww thanks guys. I really do appreciate your words xx

Have just discovered something of possible interest....

When I had my scan the sonographer mentioned I have a sub septum uterus, but said it was nothing to worry about... well, I did a little research and apparently it is something is only noticed in scans and it is something to be concerned over. I saw this on Wikipedia...

The condition may not be known to the affected individual and not result in any reproductive problems; thus normal pregnancies may occur.[4] However, it is associated with a higher risk for miscarriage, premature birth, and malpresentation. According to the classical study by Buttram there is a 60% risk of a spontaneous abortion, this being more common in the second than in the first trimester.[5] However, there is no agreement on this number and other studies show a lower risk. Woelfer found that the miscarriage risk is more pronounced in the first trimester.[2]

The condition is also associated with abnormalities of the renal system. Further, skeletal abnormalities have been linked to the condition..[6]

Hmmmm may be worth checking with your specialist ladies...

My doctor suspects that I too have a septate uterus. I don't know if it contributed to my first mc or not. My second was a confirmed trisomy so don't think it came into play there. He says usually it's a problem with the egg sticking because of low blood flow, but since mine were mmc he doesn't think it played a role. Who knows- just have to pray my next babe finds a nice cushy spot not on the septum.

Hey Ladies.

Just a quick hello to say hope everyone is ok, I've been missing in action, but doing lots of homework and research on recurrent m/c and funding etc in UK. I'm on a tight timescale as have 4 months before I no longer qualify for IVF on NHS, I don't need it right now, as those who know me will know, but if I have another ectopic and lose my remaining tube, then it's going to cause me problems, so hoping for a nice BFP in April.

Anyway I'm staying positive, I feel like a bit of the darkness is lifting and I'm ready to come back out fighting again.

Spoke to Tina at Siiobhan Quenby's clinic and confirmed they have my referral - yay so hoping I'm good to go and fully equiped for this cycle.

I really want to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me through my last episode, I'm sending you all loads of love and hugs back, you know who you are lol.. xxx

Hello Everyone

I haven't posted in a while but I went to the doctor for my 6 week checkup after miscarriage. I was told that I miscarry due to my cervix being a bit weak which causes early silent labor. I was informed that I will be seeing the high risk Obg when I get pregnant again. A cerclage will be preformed on the day of my 12th week and I should then carry my babies to full term.

He gave me some very great tips on what not to take while I'm trying to conceive. He stated not to take aspirin or ibprofen. He also mentioned not to take any vitamins BUT folic acid. The reason he gave was because they Slow down the process for conceiving.

One more thing I told him that I haven't had a period since the suction D & C. They gave me a pregnancy test which came back negative BUT He told me that I still may be pregnant. I have to wait 3 more weeks before I retest for pregnancy. If nothing happens when I test again I have a prescription to make my period come on.

My other regular doctor put me on a diet and He stated that it'll help me get pregnant much quicker if I'm not already. The diet got me pregnant this past time. Nothing special but cutting calories, an appetite suppressant (tenuate), and exercise an hour a day.

Hi Goodgirl. I will be testing in 3 weeks too. Hope we both get our BFPs xxx.
