Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Well good news and no news !

Chromosomes all normal, im karotype 46xx and hubby 46xy which is 100% normal.

Infection tests normal.

Senior Consultant doubts very much whether I have a mis-shaped uterus due to carrying two children 32+ weeks

Immune bloods still showing very slightly week lupus antibodies

So none the wiser except looks at this moment like clotting is an issue - what do you reckon??

Have had full set of immune bloods taken again and things like iron, sugar etc as she said these can change quite quickly, apparently I had a bit of excess protein in my bloods during the ectopic.

Have to go back and see consultant again on 10th February to discuss future management of pregnancies and further testing. Dont think they gonna give me a HSG as I have conceived 8 times !

Im due at Fertility Clinic on 11th Feb to so hopefully will get my progesterone and HCG shots post ovulation which has been recommended :happydance:

I have to have CD2 and CD21 bloods repeated to check ovulation as well.

So what do you reckon - good news or nothing news??

Fluffy good news on your results but just to let you know what I was told about the clotting thing.

Even though I've had a diagnosis of septum in my uterus which am having surgery for, they are still going to treat me for the clotting issues with my next pregnancy with clexane/aspirin even though my all my tests have been clear. I saw a blood specialist who told me that they have to assume that I have a clotting problem even though tests are clear, and that sometimes the clots can develop whilst pregnant. He has a 50% success rate with this for people who test negative for antiphospholipid and thats good enough for me!! Is it St Marys you are at? If so I've been told they sometimes operate different and don't give people who haven't tested positive the clexane just the aspirin/double dose aspirin? x

Hey hun thanks for that, Im at Solihull Womens Clinic in Birmingham (under the Heartlands Banner) and I think if I push hard enough even if the clotting tests come back negative I am gonna push for the clexane. Im already on aspirin. She said this is an "acquired" problem not inherited so maybe ??

Im gonna really really push Mr McKenzie next time.

Can i ask have you already got children ? Just asking becuase of the septum ?

No fluffy I don't have any kids yet. They looked into my womb as I've had 3 identical mc......all missed, around 10 weeks, no bleeding or any other signs, don't find out the hb has stopped until I go for the scans so I wasn't prepared to accept that its was just 'bad luck' or a coincidence........I knew by the nature of the mc that something was causing the hb to stop!!
I'm prepared to try anything though, so I'm happy enough to take the clexane/aspirin as well the next time as I understand the benefits outweigh the risks - so you should definately push for it! x

Hi Fluffy

Glad you got good news but I can understand that your still frustrated you've had "no news" - that's what I am terrified off. I've got my appt on 1st Feb and they are going to take bloods etc then. Do all the tests come from your bloods or did they do something else? Also, how long did it take for the results to come back?

I got an HSG on my second appt with Infertility Clinic - it was so so sore - and nothing was found...

What is clexane? Is that the heparin injections?

Hi fluffyblue, glad that the results were there for you and that they seem to be organised.

Yes, definitely be well prepared for the next appointment in Feb. Whatever plan they give you, try to establish how to get a prescription for any drugs as soon as you need them (or even in advance so that you can be ready). This week I have had a problem getting my treatment sorted out - took 2 days to get prescriptions, then more time to get a nurse to show me how to do the heparin injections - we all know what it's like trying to contact doctors, and sometimes things fall between the GP and specialist - and it can add to the stress.

Smidgen, claxane is a brand name for a certain type of heparin.

I am being seen at St Mary's and don't have clotting issues, and am on the heparin this time (but not aspirin), because apparently as well as affecting blood clotting it (i) does something immunological to help the placenta develop and (ii) helps with implantation. Really hope it works!

Smidgen, the HSG is uncomfortable, but at least a clear result means one less thing to worry about.....? I felt that way anyway, I had been worried before it and felt better for having been checked out.

Notquitesure, how sensitive are the pregnancy tests that you've been using? If they are the sensitive ones (10mui or first response) and have been negative, seems unlikely that they have all been chemicals - sometimes one chemical pregnancy can really muck up your cycles?

It isn't always the case that chemical pregnancies are heavier than normal periods (this hasn't been my experience anyway).

If progesterone is the problem, doubt that B6 alone would resolve it so quicky (sorry of this sounds negative).

Since you are worried, maybe it'd be worth getting some tests done, e.g. hormones? (Might have to be private unless you have a GP who would refer you on the NHS).

Might be the wrong thread and I apologise for posting this message in 3 threads so far but... I'm experiencing what I believe is my 3rd chemical pregnancy in 3 months of TTC. Though I've only had a faint BFP once in December... my pg symptoms have been strong each month and AF has been both early and horrendous. It feels as though my body is gearing up for pregnancy then all of a sudden, rejecting it. The pg symptoms dissapear as soon as AF shows and I can mentally 'feel' the pregnancy leaving me. (Sorry if mellow-dramatic). I have always had light periods, hardly any PMS and regular 28 day cycles. The last 3 months have been 27 days, 24 days and 26 days. i started to take a multi-vit with B6 this month incase it was a progesterone problem... obviously not. I would love any advice from anyone who has gone through something similar. I have a 19 year old daughter (textbook pregnancy) and my OH has 4 children. This would be our first together... I'm wondering whether our genes are compatible ? We are 37 (me) and 41 (OH) so possibly too old for long-term treatment options like IVF. Can anyone shed any light ? thanks x

The doctors say that no news is good news when it comes to all of these tests....seems counter-intuitive but apparently the chances of a successful pregnancy are better if nothing at all is identified.

And there is always the natural killer cells trial in Liverpool (for people who are eligible, I'm not - boo hoo!).

why aren't you eligible for the natural killer cells trial smiler? Am I right in saying that I need to get all clear from the other tests before I can be considered for the trial?

Hi there,
Can I join you? I've been reading through this thread (not got through it all yet, but I will return with more energy later!).
I have had one late loss at 22 weeks (although not technically a miscarriage) and two chemicals - one last month, one which I am currently waiting for bleeding to start - but I know it will as the tests have gone from positive to virtually nothing (although v. faint line). I am going to the doctors next week to ask for a referral to a specialist but would like to know as much as I can before then.

Just one question for now, I hope someone can help me with, what is baby asprin? Is this just normal asprin or something else?

I think perhaps low progesterone may be my problem (I have PCOS so I think it's common with this) but obviously I need to find out more and get tests done before I can know for certain.

Oh, and one more question. Is it worth TTC in the meantime? Has anyone been told to stop trying after repeated early miscarriage?

Does anyone know if trying so soon after loosing a baby later on may have an effect? It seems strange to me because it took us 12 months to conceive, now it seems to happen easily but can't get any further than really early stages.
Sorry, I'm waffling. Thanks!

Just to add to the string of totally incompetencied by my hospital I went to get the results of all my tests following the MC. Everything was fine with my bloods etc. So nothing helpful there.
But they LOST the skin biopsy from the baby so we will never know if there was something wrong with him.
My search for answers has been thwarted and I feel like screaming!

wow. That deserves a scream. I'm so sorry they were incompetent at your expense and I do hope your next time around ttc is with no complication or issue.

How do I get admin to put this as a sticky cus I think it needs to be kept at the top?

Sorry haven't been around for a while girls - took a break TTC and think I've just had chemical - what a welcome back to world of TTC eh? Does anyone have any hints on getting this recognised by doc?

Hey Chilli, welcome back and sorry to hear the news :hugs:

My doctor recognised my 3rd pregnancy loss (chemical) that she referred us for recurrent miscarriages x

Hi Chilli, my chemical was recognised by docs becuase I had a positive HPT from them so thats how we managed to get it on the recurrent referral.

I think its down to how well you can persuade them xxx

Thanks Rumpskin - did you just tell doc that you'd had one or can they check hormones?

Thanks Fluffy. I never got BFP but had strong pg symptoms from 2dpo and they dropped at about 12dpo and am now having same clear yellow liguid as had with MMCs at 9-10dpo so I KNOW it's MC but have no proof.

Grrr I'm so pissed!!!!!
