Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Thanks Rumpskin - did you just tell doc that you'd had one or can they check hormones?

I tested positive with the last one at home and went to the doctors the next day to confirm the pregnancy and to see if I could get an early scan. By that time, the line had disappeared (doctor said it was not unusual for this to happen ). The doctor did not do any tests, they just took my word for it.

Good one for getting this thread to be a sticky fluffy!

Re. chemicals, drs should take our word for it, but chilli you may need to say that you had a positive home test.

Chilli - I'm really sorry you think you've just had a chemical :hugs: My doctor took my word for it because by the time I'd gone to A&E I'd been bleeding so much that I had no line on HPT. Has your period actually started properly yet? As you said, you know your own body and your doctor should listen to your word xxx

Fluffy - Well done for getting this thread to be sticky

Could I just ask... When do you qualify for testing because of recurring miscarriages?

I've only ever been pregnant twice, once at 21 & just now at 28 but I've lost both - I only have one ovary but don't think I have a problem conceiving the gap between pregnancies was due to having the Implanon implant twice back to back (6 years in total) I conceived unexpectedly on my 2nd cycle after removal

I'm scared to TTC now after 2 losses and wondered if there was any way i could be tested to make sure that my m/c's are just bad luck and not my body rejecting my beans

I am based in SW England and it is 3 m/c unfortunately. They would not test me until I had a third.

It is worth giving it a try lovely - let us know if you do x

I've had my 4th missed miscarriage over the weekend, they have only tested my chromosomes and antibodies last month. Chromosomes are fine, found that I have anticardiolipin syndrome. Hopefully will only need to take asprin or blood thinning drugs next time I conceive.
I get stronger each time I miscarry (know it sounds weird!) there were girls sobbing on the ward this morning I felt so sorry for them without thinking that I was in the same situation. Don't be scared- look at the experiences as being positive. You'll be better prepared if it happens again (God forbid!). I feel that I ask more questions and am more assertive with treatments etc.
It will happen!!!! Good luck xx

i have had three miscarriages and the doctors are telling me it is just plain old bad luck. i don't buy that. clearly something else is at work - how does the progesterone work, and has anyone had success with it?

Thats awful 3 m/c is not just bad luck ((hugs)) if they are consecutive then you should certainly seek a referal for testing.
I had 3 consecutive m/c and was automatically refered we had lots of bloodtests and a compatability test. All came back as normal and so we were then given the option to not try again or try again and use HCG injections to support the pregnancy.
I used HCG with my 4th pregnancy which was successful and we had a healthy 8lb 14oz boy. It was very nerve wrecking and it is not full proof but it worked for us. we now had a daughter born after using hcg with her.
I wish you all the best and would certainly push for tests as if shows something up it can be treated with the correct method :hugs:

kk - what do you mean you had HCG injections?

Hi Ladies I have been offered HCG injections post ovulation with progesterone. This is something fertility specialist recommended.

I am hopefully going to get them this cycle as my appointment is on 11th February.

Thanks Fluffy, I will try to remember this for next week.

Fingers crossed this will be it for you x

We have our first appointment next Wednesday and I am getting a bit worried tbh. OH sperm results were pretty shocking and not expected to be so bad as he already has 3 kiddies. I am the wrong side of 30 and today, my period came 8 days early :dohh: - I went to the docs as this has never happened and I was worried that it was the start of the menopause  She did reassure me that this is normal so I am a bit happier.

I dont know what I will do if they say they cant do anything for us - I know I will be devastated

Oh Rumpskin, really hope they have some suggestions and ideas. Can't really say anything to help - know how hard it is - just hope the time until Wednesday passes quickly and that they are helpful.

Not sure whether you are the kind of person who finds it helpful to investigate / read up on stuff, but I have found it helps to do this, then I feel "in control" (as much as is possible with fertility stuff).

The ladies on the long-term-TTC bit of this site have various threads about sperm, might be something useful there. A friend also shared with me Zita West's book about fertility: it is quite "alternative" and not really my scene, but does have some interesting ideas.

Hi sounder,

Hate it when doctors say that! They said it to me, grrr, and just wasn't happy that things had been properly investigated, so decided to go to St Mary's in London (privately, though they take NHS referrals mainly).

I am taking progesterone as they think I may have weedy ovaries (ovulating OK but being weedy afterwards). I took it (pessaries) each month from 3 days after ovulation and stop if I got BFN, continued if BFP. It totally sorted out my (terrible) PMS immediately, though had a loss while on it in November. Am using it again this time (plus low-dose heparin).

Progesterone is harmless but quite controversial in terms of how useful it is, there is a big trial (the PROMISE) trial at the moment (info on Miscarriage Assc website). Think (though am no expert) that the issue is that a supplement cannot provide the same level of hormone as a healthy pregnancy should, so in itself it won't stop miscarriage: but it might help a bit.

I started at St Mary's RMC last week - had a whole load of tests.

They told me that if I ever did pregnant I should take aspirin. SOmething to do with the length of my clots.

They also said I should have an HSG test. This is where they put dye in your womb and x-ray you. They said I need it because I've had 3 ERPCs at my MCs, although my ultra-sound was not flagging anything in particularly.

Has anyone had this test? It does not sound great tbh.

Take care

Bethann I love your strength and determination! Its definitly helpful in this process. I'm glad they found something so that next time you know what you can do.

Sounder, piss posh! I hate when they have that attitude. I think at that point something is off and you should find someone who believes that and is willing to work with you for answers. I had to switch several gyn's because of that attitude. My last one said something is off and I will find the switch to turn it on, and we are 11 weeks pregnant now. I think he played a strong role, even though it could've been coincidink, but nothing is conincidence with God and this guy definitly helped to get us the furthest along.

fluffyblue- I hope it works for you!

Hi Girls,

Can I join? Sadly I suffered my 3rd loss yesterday and I'm finally being sent for testing, me and DH have our first appointment on Thursday and I really dont know what to expect. We have to wait 2 months for the results and not sure if we should be TTC until we have them, the consultant said its a personal opinion as the chances of all our results being normal are alot higher than it not and also I could get pregnant with a healthy baby or I could have another M/C, I really dont know what to do for the best :(

Hey Sassy

Sorry to see you are here now sweety. Sending you lots of love xx

HI Sassy.

Its mainly the chromosome tests that take the longest. The other bloods they can get back in 10-14 days they just tell you it takes longer.

If you plan to TTC just make sure you tell them you are so that they can agree a care plan for you if you do get PG. I would wait the 10-14 days have passed.

If your problem is chromosomal then you will need to judge in your own mind whether you are going to wait.

The appointments are so long and drawn out that if you were to wait you would wait for ever. I am not waiting we are just toddling along with each month and letting the appoitments come as usual. If we get PG then they will have to deal with it.

I have the attitude that i will lose again for me to get a healthy PG - its just the way I am but I have learnt alot on my journey and here about waht to ask and what to look out for.

Sorry about your recent and past losses but I know it hard but just think at least now there is some help and it can help you on your journey xxxx

I think us RMC ladies become alot harder in our persona in our journies as well xx

Hi Sassy

So sorry you have suffered another loss.

I am at St Marys RMC. They can't do the tests if you are pregnant because the readings will be wrong, and also some of them would be dangerous to the baby (eg HSG test).

The RMC testing process at St Mary's is pretty quick though - I was referred in late November - got my first appointment 26th Jan (bear in mind Christmas and New Year was in between). They did a whole load of bloods and scans on appointment one. I have to have the HSG when my next period starts and more bloods in 6 weeks so they fall in a different part of my cycle.

They said I will get all my results on April 20th (could have had April 13th) - so basically 10 weeks from start to finish.

On April 20th they will suggest plan of action (They have already said that one blood result suggests I must take Aspirin...) and tell me to go and get pregnant (terrying thought!!).

So basically - if you are going down the testing route - you can't really get pregnant until you get all your results back...

Good luck and I hope you have a sticky bean soon...
