Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

hi ladies, im so sorry for your loss, i am writting to give you hope and to tell you to never give up, i have lost 4 babys in total i lost 3 of them this year 09, i all m mc have been before 8 weeks. i have a 9yr old daughter and i have been ttc for over 4yrs but because i already have a child the doctors would not test me to see what was wrong. i lost 1 in january then in feb and then after my wedding in august, i didnt think i could take much more but then i feel preg again in october and im now 13 weeks preg and everything looks fine.

so please dont give up hope and stay positive.

my love and best wishes to you all

Moonmama, sorry about the stress you are having with the NHS, it is incredibly frustrating. The trouble is that a lot of places will only test for the things on the Royal College and Obstetricians guidance, which does not include anything hormonal (unless, for example, they need to find out whether you are ovulating), e.g. low progesterone. It is a post-code lottery.

It might be worth looking into the PROMISE progesterone clinical trial, which is for women with unexplained m/c, led by St Mary's but with participation from a number of hospitals in the UK. There is information on the miscarriage association website.

BKLOve - yes, think tests etc are better in the US, depending on your insurance cover.

Following experiences similar to yours I had additional tests done privately at St Mary's, and with appointments, ultrasound scan, HSG test etc it cost around £1000. But they found that I did have low progesterone due to a problem with my ovaries and am now on pessaries, though have had another early loss since then. Know I am lucky to have been able to go private.

If you do decide to do this, it's worth getting full details of all the tests / scans etc that you have had done on the NHS (keep chasing for outstanding results, the Patient Advice and Liaison Service can be helpful if you have problems), as they will not need to be repeated, so that'll save some money.

You can also be referred to St Mary's on the NHS, though this would take longer. Don't know where you're based though.

eblondie and kayla (and Mrs JD, Widger and other pregnant ladies), thank you so much for coming on here with your experiences, it is really nice to hear good news, gives me hope. Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancies!

got to see a heartbeat today ladies, and my natural killer cells are now normal, so so far so good. And now you know you have to keep me in your thoughts and prayers!:) I would definitly recommend putting immune testing on the list of possibilities.

Hi BK glad its going well, ive had my immune tests done 4 months ago but am having them redone this Wednesday at RMC again xx

Smiler - i have the contact details and email add for the consultant running the PROMISE trial if you want it xx

When I started this thread I thought that staying pregnant was something that I wouldn't be able to do, like so many others on here. I've been through this all with everyone who has posted their experiences and I found hope through the messages that had/have been given. I am grateful for every day that passes with my little one inside moving about as I never thought this could happen to me - like so many of you.

I wish all you ladies that are WTT or TTC all the luck in the world for 2010.

I also pray that all us pregnant ladies have a positive outcome in 2010.

We need to keep this thread alive for advice and for hope xxx

:hugs:

Might be the wrong thread and I apologise for posting this message in 3 threads so far but... I'm experiencing what I believe is my 3rd chemical pregnancy in 3 months of TTC. Though I've only had a faint BFP once in December... my pg symptoms have been strong each month and AF has been both early and horrendous. It feels as though my body is gearing up for pregnancy then all of a sudden, rejecting it. The pg symptoms dissapear as soon as AF shows and I can mentally 'feel' the pregnancy leaving me. (Sorry if mellow-dramatic). I have always had light periods, hardly any PMS and regular 28 day cycles. The last 3 months have been 27 days, 24 days and 26 days. i started to take a multi-vit with B6 this month incase it was a progesterone problem... obviously not. I would love any advice from anyone who has gone through something similar. I have a 19 year old daughter (textbook pregnancy) and my OH has 4 children. This would be our first together... I'm wondering whether our genes are compatible ? We are 37 (me) and 41 (OH) so possibly too old for long-term treatment options like IVF. Can anyone shed any light ? thanks x

Well good news and no news !

Chromosomes all normal, im karotype 46xx and hubby 46xy which is 100% normal.

Infection tests normal.

Senior Consultant doubts very much whether I have a mis-shaped uterus due to carrying two children 32+ weeks

Immune bloods still showing very slightly week lupus antibodies

So none the wiser except looks at this moment like clotting is an issue - what do you reckon??

Have had full set of immune bloods taken again and things like iron, sugar etc as she said these can change quite quickly, apparently I had a bit of excess protein in my bloods during the ectopic.

Have to go back and see consultant again on 10th February to discuss future management of pregnancies and further testing. Dont think they gonna give me a HSG as I have conceived 8 times !

Im due at Fertility Clinic on 11th Feb to so hopefully will get my progesterone and HCG shots post ovulation which has been recommended :happydance:

I have to have CD2 and CD21 bloods repeated to check ovulation as well.

So what do you reckon - good news or nothing news??

Hey lovely

Just wanted to give you this :hugs: - did not want to read and run. I am sure one of the other lovely ladies can comment on your results.

xxxxx

Fluffy good news on your results but just to let you know what I was told about the clotting thing.

Even though I've had a diagnosis of septum in my uterus which am having surgery for, they are still going to treat me for the clotting issues with my next pregnancy with clexane/aspirin even though my all my tests have been clear. I saw a blood specialist who told me that they have to assume that I have a clotting problem even though tests are clear, and that sometimes the clots can develop whilst pregnant. He has a 50% success rate with this for people who test negative for antiphospholipid and thats good enough for me!! Is it St Marys you are at? If so I've been told they sometimes operate different and don't give people who haven't tested positive the clexane just the aspirin/double dose aspirin? x

This isn't nothing news Fluffy. Having any type of results is always news even if the results don't give you any actual reason.... if you get what I mean?

I'm so glad that you have had some results and they are obviously on the case to take your bloods too which I'm sure will come back the same as last time - they usually do.

With the clotting they usually give you clexane/baby aspirin don't they? I know I took baby aspirin anyway (even though results were clear for me) just as a precaution. They were also going to give me suppositries but this didn't happen due to an incompetent secretary!!

I bet you feel more positive now after getting some answers and just even going through the process made me feel so much better xxx
