Reflux Help & Support Thread

I second that little refluxers is fab I post there too.

Your story sounds similar to ours. Noah has been on 20mg of omep for two months. Normal paed gave up referred us to Yorkhill to a gastro paed who looked at the list of symptoms I'd brought and straight confirmed the reflux disease(which we knew) and said Noah had CMPI. He explained that the omep won't work until the cmpi is under control.

Maybe it's the same for Alex

Just thought I'd update. We have actually had a breakthrough, although I have no idea what it is exactly.

At Alex's 2 year (actual age) check the neonatal consultant asked if we had tried cutting out dairy etc. Things were getting worse again, even on 20mg omeprazole

I tried to find out more about doing this but meanwhile gave her soya milk. She hated it. The littlerefluxers forum (fab!)suggested Oatly milk, and life has been quiet ever since.(bearing in mind shes nearly 2 corrected)

So, I have NO idea what is going on. We are finally getting reffered to the gastro clinic to investigate. All I know is THERES NO SICK!!!:happydance:

That's good to hear. I think you've been through enough already!!!!

I'm really at my wit's end again. Sometimes I feel bad posting here because I don't want to depress those with younger ones, but we've been having a major setback this week, in fact my hair was coated in chunky vomit this morning. He has been vomiting after his morning feed which I will be cutting out now. He acts like he's starving but can't handle it. He's also begun to vomit when upset now, it's like he associates vomit with distress from the pain and is now using it in other ways.

I took him to nursery today for the first time and watched a 6 month old feed off a bottle, not need a burp, and quietly fall asleep. Makes me wonder why I got shafted, iykwim? Mine is 15 months now and still will projectile.

Aliss i completely understand what you mean and i feel the same hugs x x

James is on 1.4ml twice a day of ranitidine and he is 6.5kg he also has 3ml 3 times a day of domperidone...i dont think either work. :(

hugs to all you mummys needing one x x

Aw don't feel bad hon, I think once you get past a certain point with reflux you mind naturally begins to think if it'll be for the long haul rather than just a few months.

Our normal paed told me on Monday he thinks I'll have problems getting a nursery to take him in January when I was meant to be going back to work. That spoke volumes for me.

And I totally understand why you feel shafted. I frequently have days like that, usually after cleaning up the third or fourth massive vomit of the day.

I don't know about your family and friends but mine have actually made it worse as they don't understand what reflux is and just think I should be getting on with it.

gils nurserys have to cater for a childs individual needs. If they were to say no due to the gord then they would be discriminating against you and noah and you could report this to ofsted i know this for definite as im the deputy manager of a private nursery so that was really bad of the doctor to say to you, you poor thing talk about being alienated! X

It did find it slightly weird. He said obviously there are sicker children than Noah in nursery but most main stream nurseries won't want to cater for a baby that is constantly throwing up everywhere.

I went into work yesterday and told them I'd need to take the last 13 weeks of my mat leave and not go back til April. Maybe I should have contacted the nursery to check first.

I did read a horrible post on the little refluxers site about a LO with GORD and the nursery left her in a high chair all day so they didn't need to keep cleaning up sick from the carpet. That didn't help how I was feeling either :dohh:

that is shocking omg! James is at my nursery and he joins in with everything like the others...iv been in his room this week and the amount of times iv knelt or sat in a wet patch where sick has been cleaned up is unreal lol! Anyway off to clean the sick he has just projectiled all over our carpet lol x x

Oh I feel your pain. Noah just drenched the changing table and the floor in the nursery. I'm sooo happy we put laminate down in there otherwise the carpet would be heading for the bin right around now!

That will be the same place ours is heading lol! We pulled our solid wood floor up when we had our husky cos he scratched it all...would be better now thou - bloody dog!! hehe

I've got a dog too, just a little beagle and he hates the laminate so I had to buy a rug for the middle of the floor. Its like his little carpet island he skates out to it and then doesn't move

HahaHaha i can just picture him doing that. We have ceramic floor tiles in our kitchen and if phoenix has wet paws he is like bambi! Haha x

Hey! Well I am very pleased to say that Madelyn has slowly, and nearly fully, grown out of her reflux. We are no longer taking meds and we do not have many episodes anymore!

We had a rough road, so glad it seems to be ending.

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a bit of advice, my LO was projecting after nearly every feed so I changed his milk from aptamil to sma, fingers crossed the sick has majorly cut down over the last few days so he's only really bad after the occasional fed otherwise it's just the odd possett.
The problem is at night he is struggling to go down after feeds and moans and groans fir ages and I worry he's going to be sick when I'm asleep so I lay awake for ages, I've thought about propping up his crib, has anyone got any advice? What do I use to prop? How high? If anyone has a pic of how they set up their LOs bed that would be really helpful! Thanks xxx

Defo prop your LO's bed up 'Jazzy', ive done it since my Daughter was diagnosed & she sleeps pretty well

I bought these:

https://www.boots.com/en/Spacebabie...Google Base-_---_-Spacebabies Baby Bed Blocks

Spacebabies bedblocks, they are fab & better than using books to try & prop the bed/cot up

Use as many as you can without tipping your LO to the foot of his bed! :dohh:

Good luck :flower:

Ok Girls ~ I have a question for those with older ones (my Daughter is 9 months)

Are your LO's still on special milk? I think my Daughters silent reflux is much better (if not almost gone) But I am wondering if to change her milk yet?

I would ideally like her to be having the 'growing up' milk (6mths+)

Love to know what you are all doing?
