Reflux Help & Support Thread

Posting to sub to this thread. My poor LO was given Zantac today for her reflux issues, so we're keeping FX that it works. But she hates the taste (I don't freakin' blame her, ugh! :|) so I have issues getting her to keep it down without spitting it back out in my face. May have to give them a ring next week if it doesn't work out for her. Sighhhh.

ANYWAY I have the feeling I'll be back with questions and stuff at some point, because I just feel awful knowing how it bothers her and that I can't do much about it. /: Thanks Kelly for letting me know about this thread!

FX it helps her, if you can only get her to keep it down  Do you use a syringe to administer it?

The Girls on this thread are fantastic & a great support at a really difficult time for you & your baby :friends:

Yes we use a syringe. She took the second dose a little better. She just happens to make this awful face when I give it to her and I feel awful lol. But she's nursing happily now afterward. So that's good!

I think its probably just a shock to her tastebuds

Im pleased she is nursing well now

Yeah I tasted it when we did the first try and it was awful. lol. Don't blame the face at all! But hopefully it will continue to go well and she will feel better soon.

I've been havin a quick check on here recently, but all seems to be quiet - hope all LO's have made progress n not needed anymore.

Kelly, Sophie been doin great, but didn't react well to milk challenge: took nrly 6wks to get back to normal!!! (although nothing quite like the bad old days). Hope yours are all well n enjoyin the Ozzy sunshine :D

My LO is almost 6 weeks old now! :baby:

She has some feeding issues, but think it may be a touch of colic rather than reflux....:hugs:

Thankyou :flower: She is doing well, the colic causes her to have good & bad days, but not like the reflux that was all day, every day

HV told me to put her on aptamil comfort (or aptamil AR as its called here)
But im not convinced that she should be on it??
Although I suppose she is better at drinking it now, where as before she was coughing & spluttering her milk......Arrghh, its hard to know what to do for the best with new babies :baby:

I must admit, re: this thread...If I see someone post about a reflux issue, I do tell them to come on this thread

Congratulations KellyC75!!!!! :happydance::happydance::happydance:

That's great news that your LO doesn't seem to be having issues with reflux! It must be such a relief! :hugs:

Thanks Girls :flower:

Saw the health nurse (HV) yesterday & she is really pleased with her weight gain, she is now 12lb 7oz (9lb 2oz at birth) :baby:

So the occasional feeding issues arent causing any problems

She still thinks it is reflux & colic that she suffers with, but thinks as I caught it early & started her on aptamil comfort (AR its called here) straight away, thats why its not appearing as bad?...

Either way, she is much easier than DD1 was when small, which is great, as it would be so hard with a toddler & baby with bad reflux issues :loopy:

So glad dd2 is doing well hon

We tried dropping madams omzol to 5mg a day. Epic fail. 3 days of bottle refusal and no sleep. Back on 10mg and she's eating again.

Afternoon ladies im desperately wanting some reassurance / advice / experience?

My little one has been suffering reflux for along time now and nothing seems to be helping. After another admission into hospita l(gastro, tachycardia and dehydration) he lost 2lbs in 2 days and im sick of seeing failure to thrive wrote on everything :(

We are currently on 17mg omperazole (most he can have for his body weight) and we are seeing his specialist next month in regards to a new plan and what interventions can be put in place. I have no clue what these interventions could be but im so sick of my heart breaking every time he his tube fed or has an iv put in to give fluids.

I'm so sorry your LO is suffering so much. :hugs:

How old is he? Also, do you know if he has any allergies? For us reflux was a side-effect of allergies and it took 3 different doctors for K to be diagnosed. Just a thought.

He's almost 16 months it seemed to settle a little but the past few months its kicked up a notch and he picks up bugs so easily. Then he drops weight. I was chuffed when he went into size 6-9 month clothes but each time he's poorly it seems worse and worse. Ive asked about allergies but they seem to think its just the reflux and his immune system is low so he picks bugs up easily.

I see. You could try eliminating some major allergens and just see if something happens. I'm not a doctor and I'm not sure what the exact symptoms are but it might be worth a try when you've been through so much. Ks allergies -well most of them- affected her internally so it was hard for us to diagnose!! And this is why it took doctors so long to figure it out. Another option would be to get an opinion of an alternative therapist. We are actually now treating K for her allergies and I like their approach.

I was trying to find someone who is doing a certain method for allergic called: NAET. Where are you based?

I can find the website where I found all practitioners? She is also doing some cranio-sacral therapy with K which is supposed to be good for reflux. Something else to look for maybe!
