Registering the birth?

You'd think i'd know this having already done it twice but it was a while ago so am a bit fuzzy on the subject.
In the UK, when registering the birth of your child, do you need to take anything in with you????

When we rang up they told us to take our red book/health record with us but when we got there they didn't even look at it x

When I rang up they asked me to bring my discharge notes. But they never asked to see them when I was there. But take them just incase.
