Did anyone else's Premie leave the hospital on a routine and then throw it out the window?

When we left Harry was feeding every 3 hours, then sleeping in his cot.

Since we got Home he just won't do that. 3 hourly is hit and miss - it can sometimes be an hour. Sometimes he will sleep in his pram, barely wants to sleep in his Moses basket but falls asleep on me or his dad or will co-sleep (which I worry about).

I thought once we got Home things would be better and I would be happier but it's driving me crazy. He is breastfed but I pump too so I know I currently have enough to feed him - plus weight gain and every nappy is wet.

The nights are the hardest esp if he wants feeding every hour.

Anyone?

It is actually hard to keep a routine after NICU - we had to manage it because of her reflux, but generally babies go through growth spurts and like you explain, want to feed more often, especially if breastfed. It will blow over - but it is normal!!

That's great, actually! My baby (in NICU now) does not wake up every 3 hours. So I asked the doc if we could give him an extra hour for him to wake up and eat when he's ready. Now he's eating so much better! Babies have their own schedules, you can't make them for them!!

I am coming to realise that, we were weighed today and he has gained 1lb 2oz in 2 weeks so all his feeding is doing good which makes me happier.

Thank you for replying x

I was relieved the NICU routine went out the window -- with both of my boys! They were fed every 3 hours my expressed breast milk, but once they came home I immediately switched to on demand breast feeding. I also allowed them to sleep and wake whenever they wanted, and we began co-sleeping. :)
