My friends sister is named Roxanne and she gets a lot of jokes about her name and many love to sing "her song" as they call it. I like the name however everyone I've met with the name has had problems with being picked on.

I named my son Damian, and only after I told people his name did I find out that there was a movie with an evil child named Damian in it or something. Adults know it, but his peers have never mentioned it. It must be a generational thing.

Thanks all for your replies! It seems most people associate Roxanne with a prostitute and Stings song. I agree with Wind, that song was released over 30 years ago now so I don't think kids born this year are gonna pay much attention to it at all.

Never doubt the timeless power of Sting's peerless musical genius! That being said I love the name Roxanne and I love the nickname Roxy. I really dig "R" names and it gets extra points for the X and Y. Overall if I could get DW to go with it I'd pick Roxanne if our spud turns out to be a girl.
