It's pretty normal in as much as Aptamil seems to produce stools more like those of a breastfed baby ... very soft and yellow (kind of like runny scrambled egg?). Aptamil poo smells more like breastfed baby poo too - very strong but sweetish.

Hope that helps :hugs:

This sounds exactly like LO nappies and she's on Aptamil. I hadn't realised that was the cause as it's the only type I've used.

Yeh they are just like mush!! her poos on sma were like playdough so we've gone from one extreme to the other!!

My LO is on Aptimel but we're having the opposite problem, she seems to be struggling to go. We're not sure what to do, as she looks like she's in so much pain with thrashing her arms and legs about and arching her back. Has anyone found a solution to helping constipation? Someone mentioned switching to Aptimel Comfort milk.

exactly the same with us, we changed from SMA to Aptimal, runny poo's so we are now back on SMA as we were worried she would lose weight pooing like that

I have just moved fromm bf to Aptimil formula. On bf her poos were once. Every few days. Now she has up to Three in a day! So there must be more fibre in this formlula. I agree that the consistency is the same as when she was bf. I would only say the difference is that occasionally she does also seem to struggle to get the damn thing out. She has Never been a screaming baby but sometimes is now in the lead up to a poo. I bought the comfort version yesterday to begin when this tub runs out.

Anyone else notice a difference with the comfort type?

I know she isn't really constipated or dehydrated cos she is actually having more poos, all are runny , and she has lots of wet nappies.

My lo has had a runny poo after every bottle today :( it's pretty much diarrohea now but she's fine in herself. We are just keeping an eye on her & I'm keeping in contact with the hv.

Ollie started off on Aptamil but we changed to SMA staydown about a week ago. His poo was runny and yellowish, but now is more green and squidgy so I guess it's normal!

I know u can mix sugar into the feed to help with constiption and if that fails u can mix a few oz of prune juice and water mixed together.....what are ur babies poos like when she does go?

Thanks for the advice. I did ring my midwife in the end, and she suggested giving her 1oz of cooled boiled water, which seemed to work yesterday. Her poo was like a more solid colmans mustard, but since then it's slightly less solid, so maybe she's ok now. Although we've still been getting a lot of crying and leg thrashing today, so I'm not sure what's wrong.

Oh of course i forgot that the first step offering a little extra water.....if her poos are like little hard pebbles / rocks then she is constipated...if not then she isnt.

Does hse burp well during and after feeds? Could be wind?

My LO moved from bf to aptimil a few weeks ago, she seemed to struggle to poo for the first week and then after that settled down and she now has no problems, she does however now poo up to 3 times a day as well. I have not tried comfort so can't help there.

Runny and yellow is perfectly normal and they certainly wont lose weight. Aptamil is the only milk my LO has had, even now he is still on the 1st milk. His poo's stayed runny and yellow until he went onto solids at 6 months.

Without sounding gross, how runny is ok? My lo's are incredibly runny at the moment, we aren't sure whether it's a tummy bug or of it's the milk. Her poos look like colmans mustard at the moment but are so runny. She is doing a trump while feeding & everything is coming out at the same time.

Sounds about right to me  My LO always used to poo during/straight after a feed, natural progession one in one out :haha:. If you are concerned though just speak to your doc.

Thanks! Yup have already spoke with the hv

We are having the whole runny mustard poo thing as well with aptimil and its really annoying cos the nappies keep leaking and going all over her clothes! Its a shame cos Poppy seems to otherwise get on fine with the formula! I thought about changing to another brand but then I thought maybe that was a bit selfish seeing as she does get on ok with the milk? Then i thought maybe i just need different nappies (using pampers baby dry at the moment). What are you all using?

Use a size too big nappies with the tabs crossed over and wrapped around in such a way that the leg holes aren't too big; ASDAs are good for poo containment. One of my LOs was on C&G comfort and it was much worse than BF baby poo...

I went from SMA to aptamil because SMA was giving her constipation and aptamil is known to be easier to digest. I wouldn't swap her again right now, give her chance to adjust to it. If the poo continues to be really runny then speak to your HV. Isabella has runny poo and I was worried but it seems to be normal. X
