Hi girls. I'm flying Ryanair on Saturday. I'll be 32 weeks. I have a 'fit to fly' letter from my midwife but will this be sufficient or should I ask for it to be counter-signed by a doctor? Any ideas?

I would say it would be enough but call and check with them if you are unsure. Or just ask your GP if he could sign anyway that way you have covered all aspects. Beware though as some GPs do charge for their signature!!! xx

I'm not sure about Ryanair. I would check their terms and conditions as they tend to be arsy about the smallest things.

I know Easyjet will accept a letter from the midwife. Mine was so reluctant to give me one and would not put the words "fit to fly" so my note was kind of crappy. It just said how many weeks I was and that I was healthy up until now. I didn't want to have to rely on it so I told the Easyjet people I was 27 weeks. They asked on both flights too!

I figure people have no idea how big a bump should be so I risked it. I was only 30 weeks at the time though. I probably wouldn't recommend lying and pretending to be a full month behind where you are.

I think it is a GP's signature you need. Ryanair will look for any reason not to let you fly so I would to be on the safe side. Having said that, I have flown with them at 32 weeks and they haven't even asked me for my letter. But it is better to be safe than sorry!

As a previous poster said, check their terms and conditions online. I am pretty sure it says on there as I flew with them at about 29 weeks and also Easyjet at 28 weeks but they had slightly different terms. My midwife wouldn't give me a note as she said she didn't have time at my appt (!) so I had to pay for the doctor to do it.
As someone else said neither airline even asked me for my note.

Same here. I flew with BMI at 32 weeks and was slightly stressed about doing the right thing so I got a (quite scrappy looking) note from my GP but then nobody ever asked to see it!! I had even phoned their customer services to check I could still check in online too and that was fine. I really don't think it matters if your midwife or GP does it - nobody seems to care!

Thanks girls! Yes I've heard Ryanair can be swines for that. I'll check their T&C's. It's laughable really as the majority of us don't even see our GP's while pregnant.

Hehe! I never thought about lying! :dohh: I'm fairly neat for 32 weeks but waddle like I have something stuck up my derriere... oh wait I do! Lol

its a gp sig that you need. I had to have one when i went on a ferry

It isn't. I had a fit to fly letter from midwife at 28 and 29 weeks for ryanair and that's all they need. Don't think you can fly with them after 36? It says in their conditions xx

Oh thanks Simo! It doesn't seem reasonable to dispute a registered midwife's letter.

I would definitely check with ryan air about terms and conditions - these airliners can be right AH's! xxxxx

Ok just checked Ryanair's travel restrictions and it says a 'doctor's certificate'. Grrrr!

i'm flying tomorrow and will be 31+6wks. I checked their T&C's which do state a letter from your doctor that you are 'fit to fly' is needed. I got mine last week as it also has to be dated within 2wks of your flight. Hope this helps xx

just found this - you should be fine hun

Once an uncomplicated single pregnancy enters its 28th week, you are required to carry with you a 'fit to fly' letter at either airport check-in and/or the boarding gate (dated within 2 weeks of your booked flight) from your midwife/doctor stating the following:
• Your pregnancy is uncomplicated
• Your date of delivery
• Confirmation that you are in good health and fit to fly

Recently flew with flybe at 35+5, no one even asked to see my fit to fly letter from Dr

Just follow term and conditions advice, my letter wasn't even on headed paper - anyone could have produced it on a computer so probably just as well no one checked

in case anyone else wanted more info, I just got back from my trip with ryanair and as ^^ no one asked for my letter either outward or inward bound :-), although was slighting p*ssed off that I had bought prioerity boarding so I could get the seats wih more legroom for comfort etc, only to be told on boarding that 'you cant use exits seats when pregnant!' I mean FFS, they expect a heavily pregnant woman to cram into the small seats for the duration of the flight? Clearly yes! Apparantly, I was someone of 'reduced mobility' which is why I couldn't use the exits seats. I think you'lll find if the plane was on fire I would move jst as quick as anyone else lol xx

I had an exit seat for a recent flight with jet2 - they made me move for takeoff and landing but could go back to my row 1 seat beside hubby for the majority of the flight. They should never have booked me on that seat though (checked in at the airport!!), I didn't choose it or pay priority so I'd have been more raging if I'd paid extra!

i know, I was so bloody annoyed lol. Would have been nice actually if they'd suggested what you did, it wasn't a full flight on the way out. Think I'm going to check Ryanairs T&C's and see what it says about pregnant women in exits seats...hmm x

In the end I paid the doctor a "nominal fee" for a letter which turned out to be £15!!! Honestly, are they not paid enough?! And Ryanair didn't even ask for one! Grr! Oh well. :-) Thanks all for your input. X
