I'm just looking for a bit of reassurance here. We went for our 20 week scan on Friday (we're now 21 +3) and the sonographer found out that Peanut has fluid in his/her kidneys. She told us by starting the sentence with "It's nothing to worry about but...". Why is it that every time someone tells you that, all it does is MAKE you worry?

We're booked in for another scan, this time with a consultant, on Wednesday afternoon this week. I just can't stop thinking about it. Although we were told that 9 times out of 10 it's just baby needing a pee to empty kidneys and bladder, I can't help the niggling worry that it's something more serious.

Anyone else had this at their scan? How did it turn out?

Thanks in advance!
Anna

not quite the same thing ... but im in a similar situation, baby appears to have something near the heart that was unidentifiable so ive got a scan with a consultant tomorrow. Im dreading it ... n i got exactly the same words - there is probably nothing to worry about .... ??

Hope ur scan goes ok on wednesday will be thinking of you.

Aww babe....good luck today:hugs:

My 20wk scan showed a problem for me too, had a consultant scan which didn't help either so I've been referred to another hospital for a scan with a specialist:hissy:

I'm sorry you've got this worry. I hope your next scan shows good news. Take care xx

I'm sure all will be fine. I found this answer to your same question on a baby medical site - so try not to worry
xx

Fluid in the kidney is a common finding on ultrasounds, especially with boys. The fluid is usually because of the "male plumbing" and sometimes the fluid does not drain as well. So long as there is fluid around the baby and the kidneys otherwise look normal, it should not be a problem.
The doctor should measure the fluid in the kidney by ultrasound once a month to make sure that there is not increased fluid.
Usually all that is necessary is an ultrasound of the baby's kidneys once he is born.

No, I never had this but just wanted to give you a :hugs:

Thank you all so much! I feel better now. Big, big thanks and  to kateqpr for finding that info out for us.... really a relief to know!

Hmmmm.... we've decided to stay firmly on Team Yellow, but I wonder if Peanut is a boy then?? :baby:

I can't answer your query about it hun but here's a hug for Wednesday :hugs:
