Sept, Oct & Nov 2011 Mummies and Babies

We do all those things too Hippy, except for the flying over the head. One good spit up on ya doing that and we decided it wasn't safe anymore (for us) :haha:

ugh, no your baby is fine!!! Caleb is like that too, and can hold himself up fairly well, as well as enjoying throwing himself to one side; and hes a couple of weeks younger than Cody!!!

As for the evening fussing thing; it's TOTALLY normal, and really really really common. No one seems to have an answer for it though, but I know it helps me to know it's really common, and even if I can't seem to settle him, it's not that I'm doing something wrong, it's just that fussy time and it'll pass...

Hey everyone

What are you all up to this w/end?

I've got everything in for xmas just need to wrap it all Plus i've got 1 more small thing to get.

Kayden is doing well, had his 6wk check yest. He's 11lbs which is good considering he was 6lbs 8 at birth. He's longer than he should be for his age, so he's gonna be tall..like his big sister (neither me or OH are tall, they take after their granpa)

He's not slept thro again but has been sleeping around 7/8 hours each night, which is great...me however...i've still not had any more than 4 hours in a row, I just seem to enjoy my me time far too much & stay up way too late, like now, kayden's been sleeping for 4 hours & im still awake..just so busy at night doing things & like an hour or 2 to myself b4 bed.

Anyone else using dummies & having probs with them, Kayden will take one sometimes, but it falls out constantly & ends up lost...we have wee clip things but theres no space on any of the dummies to actually clip it onto..u used to get wee hooks on the dummies but not any more.

Phantom - I play the same games with my girls and have done enarly from birth. They just have good head control and while it might freak someone out to see me do these things I know my babies and what is and is not okay. I love that they like putting weight on their legs too. I like envisoining two month old babies running aorund the house and it makes me laugh.

So I have a dilemma.. anyone care to comment: DH was supposed to get me an approx. $100 Christmas gift. We're overspending on him this year since his gaming tv is dying and he wants to replace it soon with another HD tv, bigger and better this time of course. So anyway we went to the mall, I gave him ideas and off he went. He decided to buy me a REALLY expensive Dyson vaccum. I have a vaccum that technically works but I don't really like it and had been talking with my dad and he was saying we could rough-in central vac into the house and then just buy the vaccum unit when we're ready and he'd install it. The units and the cost of the piping to run central vac would cost less than the Dyson. DH didn't know I had these plans. DH also doesn't know I've gone and peeked in the closet where I knew he was hiding the present. I didn't want to but after seeing a very expensive charge on the Visa I just couldn't take it anymore. What do I do??

Littlemiss - I do the same thing when the babies are sleeping, enjoy my quiet personal time for a while and then usually some much needed cleaning, all the time sacrificing the sleep I'm complaining I'm not getting a chance to have.

Well it's already late saturday afternoon here, but we just spent 3 hours at a christmas bbq for our antenatal group, so that was nice! Some of them I haven't seen since the class ended, so was good to catch up!!! DH works on a saturday, so the rest of today we're just chilling out really. Do some housework maybe... lol

Tomorrow hubby is home, my brother and his fiance are coming around (they haven't seen Caleb since he was tiny!) and then tomorrow night my MIL is coming to stay the night to spend some time with us (my mum has had heaps of time with Caleb cos of the surgery etc, but MIL has had hardly any.) She's got sun/mon off though, so will head home late monday. :)

And then on wednesday the local movie theatre has a 'mums 'n' bubs' session for the movie 'new years eve' (the lights are left on, and it's ALL mums and babies so we don't mind crying and stuff!!!) so we're going to try go to that! woot!

Phantom - dont worry. Freya has had excellent head control from birth, and so i have never actually supported it. i always just hold her waist, and she's fine. your colleagues are out of order!!

Littlestars - my opinion is i would ask hubby to return the boring vaccuum cleaner and buy me something nice instead, like jewellery or perfume or a spa day voucher!! :haha:

xx

Littlestars I don't know what to suggest but I wouldn't want a Dyson for Christmas, but I HATE hoovering. It might be worth saying you have been talking to your dad and tell him what your suggestion is. This way he has enough time to take it back and buy you something else and he also doesn't know you peaked at the present.

Well today my hubby ruined our morning routine. I have just got Alana settling herself to sleep, her dummy comes out and I have to go in as she cries for it but she will self settle. He woke up at 10.30am and she had not long been in bed and she cried, he went in to her and decided she looked awake and took her out of her cot. She was quite happy to sit on his knee chatting and smiling and all he kept saying is see she isn't tired. I pointed out that she had fallen asleep while feeding, then again as I winded her and that she is NEVER awake all morning. 15 minutes later she started screaming as she was fighting sleep and over tired. He buggered off for a bath and left her with me. She was so wound up that I had to settle her on me prior to transferring to her cot, MEN!

Littlemiss I have the same issue with dummies, we bought a clip but it is too big for the little holes on the mam 0-2 month dummies. Alana uses one to settle for sleep, my biggest issue is that she spits it out and then cries as she wants it back, or if we are out it falls on the floor. I always take two dummies out but frequently end up not being able to use either. I am going to buy some dummy wipes as a stocking filler today.

Off to order the veg for Christmas dinner from the green grocer, buy my mums present and stocking fillers for Alana.

two of the presents i'm making this year are hand made, one is about 95% done and the other.. 5%. LOL They need to be done and wrapped by Sunday as that's the only time we'll see the people before xmas. so i'll be trying to finish that today. My sister in laws also want to get together today for a girls day and make candy and stuff. I have a tons of xmas presents to wrap (DH and I went shopping last night)i feel like I'll never get done.

about the vaccum, I'd maybe get out the old vaccuum, and before starting say what your thoughts on a new one would be. I always hate houseware stuff for christmas. haha

Thanks for the opinions girls. I'm not totally opposed to houseware items for Xmas. I mean yes jewellery is nice but I really don't need any and I don't need perfume either. I hate spas and massages so those are no good and I don't want any clothing since I'm fatter than I intend on being a in a few month. I really didn't have a lot of ideas for Xmas and I honestly think his heart was in the right place in the sense that I've definitely bitched about how the vaccum I have doesn't pick things up etc. It just seems like a lot of money to spend on a vaccum, y'know? I am too practical about spending money and that coupled with my confusion on whether having a Dyson or a central vaccum system would be better since they cost about the same. I feel like if I hint about not wanting a vaccum I'd be too obvious so I'm unfortunately stuck with it at least until the stores open again. Anyone have any opinions on central vacs or had a Dyson before?

My best friend stopped by today and saw the babies for only the second time. She bought them Xmas presents, twin owl stuffies. Too cute! I've attempted to get the babies down for a nap right now sicne DD1 is at a birthday party, my friend has left and DH is writing an exam. Sadly one of the babies has decided to wake up as I type. Luckily though she is holding off the crying though I'm sure it'll come soon. So much for enjoying my afternoon of peace. lol We've got morning naptime down pat but after naptime is still in the works. I wish I could remember how old DD1 was when I got her into a naptime routine.

Phantom - what are you making if you don't mind me asking? I'm trying to knit a scarf (it's as good as my knitting gets!) and am not even close to finishing.

Hippy - your LO will be into the next size of MAMs soon so hopefully the clip you bought will fit. I actually bought MAM clips myself for my Gumdrop soothers, but I take the silicone ring off to use it.

LittleStars, Do you have a one or 2 story house? We built our house last year and were going to put in a central vac, but several people who have had them talked us out of it. They said dealing with getting the hose out and hooking it up is more of a pain than it's worth....especially if you have more than one story.

I am starting to get a sore throat...totally bummed. I hope I can fight it off and more importantly that Lauren doesn't catch what I am getting. I hate winter!

I ordered some of those gumdrop dummies off ebay as a stocking filler for Alana. I am hoping she will like them, I was hoping they would stay in her mouth better than the mam ones. She now has cotton buds, cotton balls, baby rice (for when she is older) a couple of small toys I bought ages ago, a 1st Christmas photo album, dummies, some more muslins, eco shampoo and baby massage oil for her stocking. My hubby thinks I am daft. I only want it to take a picture of her first stocking from Santa and the contents to put in her book, sad I know.

Acorn - 3 story house if you count the basement.

I'm starting to think maybe have my dad rough-in the piping just to have it as a selling feature when we next move and then just use a regular vaccum.. Still not sure about spending soooooo much on one though. I would have to be REALLY good to convince me. I wonder if I can use it for a week or two and then return it if I'm not satisfied. I dunno. I think I'm going to state my objections to DH and tell him I want him to talk me into it while I play devil's advocate and we'll see where the conversation leads us.

Hippy - if you're having fun then go for it! It's your child and your life experiences and if it's what you want to do then who is to say you shouldn't when it's not hurting anyone. That being said I have no choice but to do stocking for the babies since DD1 is 5 and still believes in Santa. I like your ideas for stocking stuffers. I couldn't think of much so might have to steal some of yours! I am really proud of the sippy cups I found though for 4mos onwards. I love the idea of training them early to drink their own drink, DD1 didn't have them until maybe 9mos. With twins it's hard on me emotionally to feed one while the other is staring at me bawling her eyes out because she is hungry too.

Oh I like the idea is sippy cups for 4 month olds. I am off to google them.

*sigh* Anyone else have older kids? My boys are 10 and 7 and all they seem to do lately is argue and tell tales - no matter what punishment I give it makes no difference. I'm bored of telling them off at the minute :(

Skye is being pretty demanding too, I think I've spoilt her.... she doesnt like being put down (she'll go down but depending on her mood, depends on how long she will stay down before crying to be picked up again). If she falls to sleep on me I put her down and she instantly wakes up which is resulting on her hardly sleeping at all during the day. Im not too bothered about her not napping in the day because she sleeps all night but she gets grumpy come tea time until she goes to bed, of an evening she doesnt want anyone but me and wants to nurse for hours which kills me nipples lol

Hope everyones having a great weekend x

I have a (nearly 4) yr old boy and lately he's just been playing up too ... Must be something in the air ... Considering its only 6 days till Xmas he best behave or Santa might fly right over our house this year!!! Lol

Hugs hun:hugs: I have 2 boys aged 9 and 14 and they have been exactly the same lately, its feels like banging your head against a wall. I am putting part of it down to being indoors and not running off their energy, partly Skye's arrival and feeding taking up so much time and partly xmas excitment!
You could be talking about my Skye there its so similar:dohh: She will go in her carseat indoors (doesnt like the swing:wacko:) and watch us doing stuff for a while but not long, I managed to iron a pair of curtains earlier:thumbup:, but if I put her down when she's asleep I am lucky if she stays that way for more than 5mins:shrug:

I have managed to almost finish the xmas shopping, lol. Just the stocking fillers for the oldest 2, a gift for my besties kids and my parents. I swear if I am wrapping presents still at 3am on xmas morning (its happened before:blush::haha:) I will scream:dohh: Is everyone else all done?

it's not possible to spoil a baby... I highly recommend getting a sling or wrap or something so baby can sleep against your body, but leaving your hands free to get things done. I LOVE my wrap for that! Caleb can sleep for a couple of hours in the wrap, meanwhile I'm up and about, doing the laundry and dishes and stuff; no problems. He too will wake up not long after going down, but that's totally NORMAL!

Babies have a fairly short sleep cycle, and will come and go into a light and deep sleep fairly frequently. When they're in a deep sleep (floppy, even breathing, you can move them about and they don't even stir) you can put them down and they'll stay there for a bit (until they come out of the deep stage of sleep) but if they're in a light sleep (rapid eye movement under their eyelids, more erratic breathing, twitching etc; ie 'dreaming') they will generally wake up easily. They frequently twitch themselves awake a little in the lighter state, but if they're happy and comfy (ie if they're still being held and they're not yet hungry) then they also usually quickly drift back off again. If they twitch awake in a light stage of sleep and find themselves alone, even if they're not hungry, they generally then will wake up fully and start to make noise to bring you back. And because their sleep cycle is fairly short, they come into these light stages much more often than an adult, so the deep sleep where you can leave them, doesn't last long!

And hence I highly recommend getting a sling or something so baby can be right by you and only wake up when they're actually hungry (every 1-2 hours if on breast milk) rather than just waking in 15 mins cos they were put down and found themselves alone! :)

Well it's official...I am sick. Sore throat, stuffy nose, plugged ears, and headache. My husband has been great helping, but I am on my own tomorrow and feel bad for not giving Lauren much attention today. I am miserable and terrified Lauren will get what I have :(

Get well soon Hun & hope Lauren doesnt catch it xx

Hope you get better soon Acorn. I hope Lauren doesn't catch it.

Well the stocking fillers are all done for Alana and I have managed to wrap nearly all my presents. Yesterday we finally sorted out the back room, it now looks like a playroom instead of a laundry, no doubt it won't take long to be covered in clean clothes waiting to be folded or ironed.
I am going to try and make mince pies this afternoon when Alana has her long nap (she won't nap now I have written that). Hmm maybe I should start them now while she is sleeping. Yep off to start mince pies now. I shall let you know if I succeed.

I hope everyone has a great day.
