Sept, Oct & Nov 2011 Mummies and Babies

I love our BG pockets, they work well for us which is nice. But our Blueberry pockets are by far my favorite! He's on the smallest waist setting so he'll fit in them a while yet. He's on the middle waist setting for BG's tho. Also like my Sunbaby's, although he's leaked out the very top twice so far. Dunno how he pee's straight up :haha:

I wanna get Cheeky Wipes, but no money for that atm. Plus we have two big boxes of disposable wipes to use up still, so maybe when they run out? And I have a friend who uses them and raves about them all the time (so much so that she has a discount she can give ppl lol)!

We use disposable wipes, but don't use very many to begin with. Our ped told us to use tissue when she just has a wet diaper and since doing that she almost never gets diaper rash.

I don't understand why webdin't wipe babies bottoms with tissue anyway, I mean you can clear most of the mess up with tissue and then use a reusable wipe to wash off.

I guess tissue would work too. Why is tissue supposed to be better though? Just because it's more biodegradable or cheaper?

Silas's 4 month visit went fine. He's in 94th percentile for weight (18 lb 4 oz) and 95th for height (26.5" I think?). He barely cried at the shots... definitely less than last time. We'll see if he gets fussy later today but so far okay... fingers crossed.

The pediatrician made me feel better about starting solids. He basically said there is no one best way to do it, we could start at 4 months or as late as almost 9 months if we want... and the only big no-no food is honey. So that has made me feel better. I'm excited to try him on solids but just feeling not ready. He's still so young and little, and breastfeeding is going well, why mess with it for now, you know?

NY, I have an old Angelcare and it doesn't say the temp on it. We are keeping our thermostat at 70, but I'm sure his room gets colder at night. It has a big window (at least compared to the size of the room) and we keep the door shut, it just seems like the heat doesn't get up there that well... So las tnight I had him in a onesie, fleece footie pajamas, fleece sleepsack, thin swaddle blanket around that (with one arm). I'm pretty sure he was too hot at the beginning of the night but I knew it would get colder... then added the hat, sock on the hand, and extra blanket later in the night. It's so annoying, I wish his room would just stay one temperature all night...

Kait- those look awesome. Want!! But, am kind of cheap.... I love how she says "mucky" 40 times! Lol. nice word!

I've ordered some cute ones on DS forum. Just 8 for now for $1.25 each. I know thats not many, but I can also cut up some old receiving blankies for fillers for now and have my cute ones for out and about. I thought 1.24/wipe kind of expensive but sooo ocute:)
Dont think i'll use any solution in them though, just water.

ZB- yaya for him doing shots well! Our house is super dumb, we have to have thermostat to like 74 and its still just 68-70 in our room. The living area is hot as hell but our bedroom(wher Kian sleeps) is still so cold. What is helping though is that we've started the new flooring. I think its insulating better.

The Kushie AIO's are the Ultra-Lite ones that I use. I was super lucky and was able to buy them at 5/$30 which was 50% the regular price. Needless to say I bought 40 AIO's! I actually think I have too many but I don't mind not having to do the laundry so often. I can do half while I still have clean ones which allows me to air-dry them in the laundry room for 24hours instead of running the dryer. At first I was really overwhelmed by how big they were on the girls but I'm used to it now. As long as I make sure to tighten them on well there isn't any issues with leakage anymore. They velcro across the tummy so you can custom fit to the exact tightness you need.

As for reusable wipes.. I went to my local dollar store and bought MANY cheap baby face cloths, 6/$1.25, I have about 100 wipes. I sort them into bundles of 25 with the pink ones at the bottom to warn me I'm almost out and I fan fold them so that I can pull them through an old diaposable wipe tub and the next one pops up. I've tried dry ones and using a spray bottle with water/baby oil/baby soap and also pre-soaked ones. I'm leaning towards pre-soaked as my preference I just need to get better at not over wetting them. I toss them into the bucket with the diapers and they get washed all at once.

And with that I must go as my darling little ones are waking from their enforced nap. They're getting better at it.. we're up to about an hour nap at 2pm.

Little- I have 2 AIO BG and am noticing the sewn in terry part smells kind of weird...not bad, but just different. wet wash cloth sort of.. is this yours too or is it just these 2? I bleached them when they first came to me adn now just wash normal but not liking the musty smell.

I cut up old stuff for my cloth wipes, and I'm preferring them pre-soaked too. I was doing the fold'em so the next pops up thing, but it's annoying to do so I just have them in the container and I grab one as needed. I'm just using plain water, and squeeze the excess out (it's hardly much excess) when I grab it. :p

zb5; a tissue would be better than disposable wipes cos of the chemicals in the wipes often cause rashes, so a plain tissue might help in that regards. :)

Thanks for the link for cheeky wipes hadn't thought of using reusable ones before but they look fab i phoned up and lady i spoke to v nice. She recommended speaking to wendy at the nappy lady website as she's independant and good for advice. I'm going to get some cheeky wipes. Been going through alot of nappies etc as Travis still has diarrhea think it might be secondary lactose intolherance so back at doctors 2moro.
Went to a weaning class yesterday was v interesting learnt alot just hope my baby brain soaked it up ha.
So last night we noticed a leak in the ceiling right onto the cot so had to go in spare room and squeeze travis into moses basket waiting for plumber to call back, grr. We had the same problem in June and thought it was fixed.

I wished hubby would've let me cloth diaper. Then I'd have more to talk about. lol

LOL me neither on both counts. Still reading though! :flower:

We actually use chemical and chlorine free wipes and diapers, so that does help with diaper rash right off the bat. The reason we use kleenex a lot of the time is because they are dry. I think that's the trick that really helps and that's why our ped recommended it.

Ha ha, same here!! No rolling, no cloth diapers :) We wanted to use cloth, but we are struggling to keep up with laundry as it is. We have been really happy with our chlorine free diapers, so we will stick with those for now.

DH was fine with cloth diapers until Cody has his first poo explosion. He through away his clothes because he'd rather not clean them. Men.

I've gotten Cody to roll over a grand total of three times.

In other news. I gave cody Applesauce last week and he loved it. (purree'd/sugar free, not the kind we eat) and yesterday I made my first puree for him in my blender. Apple/Bannana. He seemed to like it. I think he prefers straight apple better. Since starting, he takes fewer naps, but sleeps for longer periods.

We still give him formula on demand, but every 2-3 bottles we'll let him have some of his baby food. We let him eat until he seems like he doesn't want it anymore, than give him his bottle. He goes right to sleep after the bottle, usually and wakes up about 3 hours later.

Those who do the reusable wipes- doesn't them sitting in water produce bacteria or mold to grow on them if no sort of alcohol or solution is in it?

Michelle- thats awesome that he liked the applesauce! Did you already go through all the veggies? Funny your DH is the one to throw clothes- im usually that one and OH takes them downstairs and gets the stain out! not w cloth dipes though, i handle them....

My baby wont roll over either, he is much too chubby. Lol.

Acorn- what are the diapers that you use called? Are they biodegradable? I like to have some on hand in case....

Adele- was baby in the cot being leaked on? that sucks! i hope they fixed it right away.

ny, I only have a small handful of wipes that are wet at once. Like 8 of them? Usually enough to last the day (or slightly more/less) anyway, so they don't get a chance to get funky! I have a little water in the bottom of a container, dump my wee handful in there and get 'em wet, then every change I grab the top one, squeeze off the wee bit of excess water, wipe, and throw the whole lot (nappy, inserts and wipe) into the bucket for washing. I have a stash of dry wipes under my change table, so when I've used the last one I plonk another wee pile in, top up the water as needed, and carry on. I give the container a rinse out every few days too.

Nicole- We started with Applesauce. I was told at 4mos they can only have apples, bananas, pears and avocado.

The wipes I have when they are wet are only used for maybe a 36 hour time period in a closed container so no funky smell thankfully. By then I'm out and a new batch is prepared after a rinse to the box.

The AIO's don't smell musty until they are wet from enough pee and by then they need changing so no biggie. I think they might not have that smell if I were to dry them in the dryer perhaps. I'm hoping that in the summer when they get dried outside it'll disappear too. I have a feeling it's more an issue of how long it takes the diapers to air dry in my basement on the drying rack.

Here's is a list by age of foods suggested to feed as per the book "What to Expect: The Firt Year"

4-6 months: Rice Cereal

6 months: Barley cereal, Oat cereal, Applesauce, Bananas, Pears, Peaches, Peas, Carrots, Green Beans, Sweet Potato, Squash

7-8 months: Chicken, Turkey, Lamb, Beef, Avacado, Egg Yolk

9 months: Yogurt (whole milk), Cheese (such as Swiss and Cheddar), Pasta, Beans, Tofu

9 months if no allergies in family, if so then wait until 12 months: Wheat, Citrus fruits/juice, Tomatoes, Strawberries

12 months: Milk replaces formula, Nuts, Peanuts, Chocolate, Egg Whites, Honey

And my husband was very against me cloth diapering but pro my efforts to save money but doesn't change diapers EVER so what does he care anyway?

The girls had their doctor's appointment today and took their shots really well, weight is going up nicely and they hit the 15%, height they are in the 50-60% range. The doctor was concerned though as she thinks Libby has a heart murmur so we're going to see a specialist to have her checked out to see if it's really an issue or if it's just because she's growing and certain valves haven't changed size at the same rate or some nonsense. I hope we get a call for the appointment soon though so I can know if there is anything to be concerned over.

In the meantime, I went shopping today at a consignment store for children and got two seats, they're like a bumbo seat with a full circle sliding tray that has toys attached to it. Basically like an exersaucer that sits the baby instead of having them stand. Anyway, they were 50% off the consignment price so they were soooo cheap. Yay! Makes me feel better about the fact the girls are too short to use their exersaucer for at least another 6 weeks or so. I also go a baby sign language book while I was there. I used to have one but can't for the life of me find it and I only remember a few signs.

Anyone else doing baby signing? I've been working on it with the few signs I could remember (mama, dada, milk/bottle, love you) but I'm looking forward to adding a few more. It was great when DD1 could tell me she was hungry, thirsty, sleepy etc but the best was the first time she ever signed back she loved me. Made me melt.

we've been doing sign, but I've just been using the online dictionary for NZ sign language rather than doing 'baby' sign (which is pretty much all based on the american sign language anyway)

And if DH doesn't change the nappies; go and buy a couple of cloth ones! Even one will mean one less disposable is used every time you use it instead... lol!
