septembryos baby area (09 babies)

Good morning all!!!

Vicks- i live in Clacton so the beach is awful, and i would never go near the water as its brown!!!! But we did go for a nice walk along the path on the front, and then the park is there too. I had my coat off, actually think i caught a little sun, and Izzy has a red nose, so best get her some suntan lotion- didnt think u could get it in this weather!

Amy- sorry to hear about your back, hope it eases soon

Kathryn- sooooo jealous of NZ, i love it over there! Where abouts are u going?

Rach- where u live sounds lovely!

i've been brave and took the travel cot down for now as blake doesnt go in it. i have moved his hop n pop toy into the corner where cot was so its not in the middle of my lounge, he seems really happy there as he can reach his toys and spare blankets as well! they are every where! LOL! he happily sleeps on his bean bag or the floor (if he goes sleep whilst rolling around!)

he hardly stays still. he cant crawl as we have laminate but he has worked out if he rolls left/right n kicks his legs about he can get round the room. its quite funny to watch.

hey!....mason is better but still not 100% ive updates the thread i have in baby club :)

:hugs: to Mason :hugs:

We've had a good day  Went out with a friend & her 4 month old this afternoon, walked for flipping miles around the town, parks and canal. Was a bit chilly though, wished we'd done that yesterday!! I put Joe down for a little nap at 7pm and he's still asleep! Gonna give him a dreamfeed in a little while and then off to bed too, the fresh air has made me sleepy

Also, we ordered an activity station for Joe, which arrives tomorrow and baby sunglasses!! Off to get his highchair this weekend and we're gonna definitley start weaning after he's been weighed next Tuesday. I got some banana porridge and apple and mango rice pudding today - are these ok to start him off with?

plain baby rice is the best option for a few days and only do 1 meal to start with. after 3-4days of baby rice you can then mix rice and the porridge so he has flavor. i was told to leave him on 1 meal for 2-3weeks unless he seems really hungry. blake has been on solids for over 2months now and has only just started having 3 meals - well he has breakfast of toast or baby porridge/cereal and he has lunch of puree of what we have had cooked (he doesnt like the jars, so we do extra of our food, puree it and freeze). then at tea time he has started to have either what we have as a finger food or he has fruit/veg sticks, baby biscuits or anything else he can hold and "eat" whilst we are eating!

So start with baby rice mixed with his usual milk for say once a day for 2 or 3 days then?

What is the best time to try it? Lunchtime incase he has any reaction to it?

I'm so frigging nervous about weaning!!

Hey Vicks! Don't be nervous hun, it'll be great. I started with rice, and started it at about lunchtime, i did it for a long time on just that because we started at 4 months, but u wont need to. After that they say to start with veggie first so the baby doesnt get a preference just for sweet fruity things. Also to start with single veg things, to see if there is any reaction to them, like just carrots or something. We started on jars, as i found the whole making it myself very daunting, and also we could try her on lots of different things. Then progressed onto making our own- at the moment she has potatoes, mixed with veg and one of those baby sauces, and that will last a week. We are experimenting with lentils, and sweet potato this week!

Hi Vicks, second what Amy and Scally have said. I started Noah when he was 4 and a half months. For three weeks he only had baby rice and just a taste of pear or carrot (because he was so young) then i moved on to two meals a day and we have started to experiment more. He will be 6 months old in a week and he still has all his normal milk feeds and only two solid feeds. I use the ellas kitchen pouches and the organics stuff. He also has a lot of finger foods: - tender stem sprouting, carrot, pear, bread and hummus (had that yesterday and loved it) plums, peaches, cheese sticks, rice cakes etc,etc...

hi,

i started blake on lunchtime meal of babyrice as i didnt have time for "messing about" with food in the mornings - have 2 others to get up and ready for school etc. he was fine with lunch for about 3 weeks - he wasnt keen on plain baby rice so i added a pinch of baby breakfast to it for flavour. we then moved onto a 2nd meal - breakfast. so i moved his rice n porridge etc (and started giving him the proper breakfasts) and offered the jars at lunch - refused them so he has what we have pureed BUT i mix baby rice and milk into it so the flavours are not as strong. he has just turned 6months and we are starting to introduce his 3rd meal.

JUST because some of our LO are on 2meals a day doesnt mean you have to try and catch up - if your LO is happy with just 1 meal a day stick with it!

dont worry about the "odd lump" in food, babies under a year WON'T choke - their gag reflex is too strong. they will gag (which is scary the 1st time as it is similar to choking) BUT baby will get the lump back into their mouths themselves! then you can remove it. lumps tend to only appear when you are pureeing stuff not with baby rice.

any questions just ask hun, i'm on baby #3 and they have all been weaned between 3 and 4 months due to being on soya milk and it not having a hungrier option. it is worrying to start with especially if its 1st baby! when LO turns away or spits/pushes food out of mouth this can be a sign to stop! (obviously they will do this with 1st spoonful and of new tastes,)

*** i know slightly different, but when blake was born i asked the MW how much milk i should him!!! she looked at me very strangely and said "its your 3rd baby you should know. it wasnt until i explained the middle 1 was just under 8lb and blake was just over 6lb that she understood my concern and told me to what he wanted. i was worried about over/under feeding him.

Thanks girls!! I'll start on baby rice then next week.

You guys are lifesavers with all the advice :) xx

It's been quiet on here..... Hello?? Anyone out there??!!! :hi:

Having a quiet weekend, making puree's! How life has changed hey

What's everyone else upto?

x

hi,

vicks - your mad! i dont make purees specially for blake, i cook a bit extra of what we have and then puree it and freeze it - i can usually get 2 or 3 meals for him at a time. use ice-cube tray to keep them in, they are about right size for LO.

we are waiting to hear IF OH car has passed MOT as the idiots where we had it done failed it, we got the repairs done at cost of £170 with receipt and old bits in boot, to be told we were trying it on and hadnt done the repairs!!! so the guy who did repars has taken it to VOSA main station for re-testing! as long as it passes we can go shopping!

tomorrow we are off to see the circus of horrors, i cant wait.

Did you just use jars then after Baby rice Amy?

I posted a thread about this in the weaning section as I wasn't sure if you could just use jars, as these have more than 1 fruit or veg in them??

Ps. I am abit mad I think lol

woohoo we are going on holiday in 2 days ....i havent even packed yet oops...lol

sorry, i wasnt being rude saying you were mad. i bought jars and blake refused to eat them, he wont eat the puree fruit either, therefore i just pureed our food and he loves it! i also give him apple, carrot, cucumber and pear in fingers and he sucks them to bits.

i have just given blake a cheese spread sandwich - 1 slice bread folded in half and cut into 8 fingers - theres 1 finger left, mashed up into pieces on my floor. he ate the rest. was well funny!

No worries amy, I think I'm going mad with all this weaning stuff. It's just blowing my little mind

vicks - once you get over the 1st few days you will be fine. its just the unknown to start with. make up small amount and if LO wants more then do abit more rather than making loads and wasting. you will probably find that the first few days LO will only take 1 or 2 spoonfuls as its a new taste and texture, will probably also cry between spoonfuls as they are used to it "pouring" as such in 1 flow and now they have to wait.

blake gets really excited when he sees bowl/spoon etc arms and legs going and babbles away.

If i eat food and Noah hasn't got any he kicks off! Its well funny. (i'll always offer him a taste of what i'm eating if he asks)
