Not sure Archie's in the right frame of mind to be left with someone at a poolside at the moment - he is just - just- letting me put him down for 10 mins or so during the dat - LOL. I'm going to look at aquababes for him, so he can come in the water with me - he loves his bath, so hopefully he'll like swimming too.

Berkeley precint would be best for me on Friday - is that ok?

You ladies don't know how much I wish I could come! Still stuck in hospital, they picked up that Issy had an infection soon after birth, thank god they did as they put her straight on antibiotics or things could have been far worse! She was in an incubator for light therapy for jaundice too but she has been out for a day or two and is much better. Hoping to be home at the weekend!

Have to say the staff have in the main been amazing, I have at no point worried about Issy's care and there are some amazing midwives and doctors! I ended up with an emergency section and even the anaesthetist was brilliant. That said after 10 days I am totally ready to get out :D

We also had Maeve and had the same amateur dramatics, my husband does a brilliant impression of her. She did cover c sections in our class and did a lot on pain relief, not sure if you get more in depth in the evenings perhaps? A lot is common sense, I think my husband found them more helpful than me as he didn't read much about labour/babies!

Aw.... it won't be too much longer and you'll be home with your beautiful baby girl. Can't wait to meet Issy (and hope I can do soon!). You've picked one of my favourite girls names :)
I was at Jessops yesterday morning having a scan and was thinking about you being upstairs from me! I've had a low lying placenta so had to have it re-assessed to see if it had moved... the good news is that it has, so at the moment it looks like I can have a normal birth (if it hadn't moved it was a case of a c-section at 38 weeks!).
4 weeks now until my due date - hope I'm not kept waiting too long as I can't wait to meet my little one :flower:

Sorry to hear Issy was poorly, but good to hear she's on the mend - I can't imagine how you must have felt about it at first. I had a great anaesthetist too - was it a bald bloke, aged about 40? I'm thinking he maybe wore glasses as well.

Glad to hear they're looking after you - unfortunately that wasn't my experience - I met with the Matron a couple of weeks ago and she was going to share my complaint letter with the staff on Norfolk ward, so hopefully they've improved on some of the basics they didn't provide to me and Archie.

Hey,

Sorry to hear your still there, I hope Issy picks up soon and you can bring her home. Cant believe you've actually had her as it doesn't seem that long ago we were stilling outside cafeteria. As soon as your up to a trip out it would be great to see you. And you never know Kathryn might have had her baby too and I'll be the only one without a baby :-(

x

Great news on your placenta Kathryn! Must be a relief. It's scary how fast your due date will come around but being a mummy is worth the wait, I can't believe how in love with her I am!

My anaesthetist was a bit younger I think but I think the one you had was there too, it's a bit of a blur! I feel like I have met every doctor and midwife in here :D

Your baby will be here before you know it Rachel! I know I hated when people said that to me though. Can't wait to show her off to you all!

Yes, definitely a relief - I thought it would be fine, but until you have that scan to confirm it you just never know! I hope my due date does come around quickly now because I'm getting a lot of kicking in my ribs at the moment and it's painful! Still, today is my last day at work so it'll help not having to sit at my desk all day.

Can't wait to meet Issy - hopefully it'll not be too long before you feel up to showing her off!
Are you coming home today or are they keeping you in a bit longer?

It is definitely easier once you're done with work! They really can be quite forceful in there when you get close to the end of pregnancy!

She has last antibiotics today so hopefully go home tomorrow or Saturday (apparently some doctors want to keep them in 24 hours after last dose so luck as to who is on tomorrow I think)

They did just say she is looking jaundiced again tho and are taking blood, fingers crossed it is below treatment levels or she goes back in the incubator! One thing after another..

I'll keep everything crossed for you that you're home either tomorrow or Saturday then. Bet you can't wait to get home and start enjoying your new life as a family together!

Take care

Did you lovely ladies manage a meetup on Friday?

How's life on maternity leave Kathryn?

We finally made it home on Friday and are settling into life without the constant interruptions of being in hospital! We're both doing well, I am already counting down the days until I'm allowed to drive again, luckily hubby is off this week so I have a chauffeur and he keeps telling me I am supposed to be taking it easy anyway :D

We did indeed! Rachel and I went to aquanatal and then met up with Sam and Archie for a coffee!

Maternity leave is ok so far. Finding it strange having no fixed plans though as I'm used to being busy! If you want a visitor next week once your hubby has gone back to work then let me know! I'll be going stir crazy by then!

Glad everything is ok now. I'm full term in 2 days time.... Seems odd that I'm so close!
X

Fiona - Glad your back home and things are going well.

Kathryn - Full term in 2 days, wow, that makes it sound so close!

Question for any Jessop's veterans:
I've just started to pack my hospital bag, as we're on holiday and then don't have to stress later, and have a question. How many towel's should I take? I'm presuming the hospital won't provide them, but the video made in sound like an en-suite so I might be in and out to use the warming effect of water if I can't use the birthing pool?

Visitor next week sounds good! I think once I hit full term is when the time disappeared completely - you'll be a Mummy soon!

I don't think I was offered a towel at any point in hospital but they do have them if you ask. The labour rooms are en suite, I'd probably take two, take a dark one for after the birth due to bleeding, I also found a hand type towel to put my hair up in after I showered was good as I hate having wet hair on my nice clean clothes ;)

I didn't realise I'd have just as many appointments post birth as I did in pregnancy! Had the midwife out on Saturday, then midwife again today, doctor is also coming today for a home visit for some reason and then health visitor tomorrow!

Ok cool - just let me know when you feel ready for some company and we can get something arranged! Can't wait to meet Issy (and see you again of course!)

I suppose it's good that you're getting lots of visits from doctors / midwife etc - probably just making sure everything is ok after the antibiotics and your extended hospital stay?

Towels - take one hand towel, one bath towel and one for your hair - dark colours preferably in case you bleed on them.

However, the hospital did give me towels for my first shower after my section - the health care assistant said that she preferred patients to use hospital towels because of the mess they can end up in. So I ended up sending my own towels home and just using theirs - but some staff were a bit funny about me asking for towels, so there's no consistency!

Also - take your own pillows, with distinctive pillow cases - they just don't have them on the labour ward - the midwife there told me they don't know what happens to them all.

I think everyone gets loads of appointments after they get home - I was really surprised as well, we had daily visits from midwives for pretty much the first week, then the health visitor starts, but then after her second visit and being discharged by the midwife after 3 weeks we've been left alone. They're obsessed with babies weight. I've only just found out though that I should be having him weighed at a HV clinic - not taken him yet and can't for another 2 weeks. He's a heavy little thing though, so I know he's fine.

I had 3 pillows I managed to hog through my stay, I was telling my husband that's why there aren't any for anyone else :D

Yeah these are just routine appointments. We missed a lot of the normal visits as we were in hospital anyway.

Definite weight obsession, Issy lost 11% of her birth weight due to being poorly and my milk taking a while to come in and they had me feeding her, expressing and then giving her the expressed top up every 3 hours until she showed she was gaining weight. I was a wreck as by the time I'd fed her and expressed it was time to start over again and I got no sleep at all. She is supposed to have regained her birth weight but is 2oz off so they are coming back on Monday to weigh her again so we've not been discharged from the midwives yet. They said she seems happy and healthy though and given she lost so much to start with I am beginning to think they are just stressing me out unnecessarily!

Thanks for the advice, will dig out my "hair dying" towels! If there is anything else you wish you'd known before going to Jessops let me know!

Had my 4D scan today and it was amazing! Will find a way to upload a pic tonight!
