Sheffield, South Yorkshire

Definite weight obsession, Issy lost 11% of her birth weight due to being poorly and my milk taking a while to come in and they had me feeding her, expressing and then giving her the expressed top up every 3 hours until she showed she was gaining weight. I was a wreck as by the time I'd fed her and expressed it was time to start over again and I got no sleep at all. She is supposed to have regained her birth weight but is 2oz off so they are coming back on Monday to weigh her again so we've not been discharged from the midwives yet. They said she seems happy and healthy though and given she lost so much to start with I am beginning to think they are just stressing me out unnecessarily!

They had me on exactly the same feeding regime because he wasn't feeding properly - it nearly sent me potty! In the end I was so stressed I could hardly express anything because each feed was taking 90 mins. That combined with Archie refusing to breastfeed led to us formula feeding in the end.

Then when we went for our 6 week check with the GP she was going on and on about him being too heavy and not letting him get fat. I just told her I couldn't win as far as they were concerned.

Here goes posting a pic!

I was glad of taking the pump for my birthing ball as I like them quite firm and the ones at Jessops are quite squishy. The straws I took were useful for drinks when I was being monitored and couldn't sit up properly (got that tip from someone else!) Take change for the vending machines or snacks, even if you don't feel like eating much your hubby might. We took a change of clothes and freshening up stuff for him as well as me which he was thankful for.

Aww love your scan pic - you're having a baby! ;)

Wow Rachel - that piccie is amazing! When I've seen pictures in the past they've looked a bit scary, but he looks just perfect on here. Bet it's made u really excited??

Had a shocking nights sleep last night - I look forward to the baby being here - I'll probably get more sleep then?!!

Full term today... so I'll definitely become a mummy in the next 5 weeks. Must admit that after another week to myself I'll be ready to meet my little one and find out whether it's a boy or a girl.
Baby clothes are all in the wash today - they look soooooo cute on the airer!

Suffering at the moment-getting loads of pain in my ribs.. And lots of braxton hicks! Glad I don't have to go to work anymore...

Hello Tonieolive - good to see another local lady joining our thread! As Arcanespark said, if you ever fancy a meet up then let us know! A few of us have met up now and it's been good to chat to other pregnant ladies (& now new mums!)

On a different note - has anyone got a sample birth plan? I'm being pestered to write one now and just wondered if anyone had an example they would be prepared to share with me?

Thanks!

I don't have a sample one but I'm more than happy to share mine if it would be of any help?

Boots have a sample one which I was browsing for inspiration and still have the tab open!

There you go hun:

I have suffered from M.E. for a number of years and, whilst I am well at the moment, I do get exhausted easily.

In order for me to feel safe, (somewhat) in control and not panic, it’s important that I feel my wishes and choices are taken seriously and my voice is being heard.

My supporter is my husband Ryan. If, for any reason, I am unable to make a decision, please defer to Ryan.

I am open-minded about the options and choices available during labour and am not categorically ruling anything out. I realise that labour and birth are unpredictable things and that the wishes listed below which are based on my ‘ideal’ birth experience may well go out of the window.

Labour
• I would like to use the pool if it is available.
• If the pool is not available, I would like to be free to walk around and change position throughout.
• I would like the lights in the room to be kept low and the environment to be kept as quiet as possible.
• I would prefer to keep the number of vaginal exams to a minimum.

Monitoring
• I do not wish to have continuous foetal monitoring unless it is required by the condition of the baby.
• I do not want an internal monitor unless the baby has shown some sign of distress.

Anaesthesia/Pain Medication
• I would like to use the pool if it is available.
• I am open minded about my pain relief options; please suggest anything you think would be appropriate.
• If I request an epidural, please take me seriously and provide one as soon as you are able. I won’t ask for one unless I feel I really need one. I realise this will mean that I am unable to use the pool and will need to have continuous foetal monitoring.

Caesarean
• If a Caesarean delivery is indicated, I would like to be fully informed and to participate in the decision-making process.
• I would like Ryan present at all times if the baby requires a Caesarean delivery.
• If the baby is not in distress, the baby should be given to Ryan immediately after birth.

Episiotomy
• Please only give me an episiotomy if, in your professional opinion, a bad tear is likely without one. Or if the baby is in distress and needs to be born quickly.
• I would like a local anaesthetic to repair a tear or an episiotomy.

Delivery
• I would appreciate guidance on when to push and when to stop pushing so the perineum can stretch.
• If I am labouring in the pool, I would like to give birth there if possible.
• I would like to be allowed to choose the position in which I give birth.
• Even if I am fully dilated, and assuming the baby is not in distress, I would like to try to wait until I feel the urge to push before beginning the pushing phase.
• I would appreciate having the room lights turned low and the room as quiet as possible for the delivery.
• I would like as few people as possible present during delivery.
• Providing the baby is not in distress, I would like to have skin to skin contact as soon as possible after delivery.
• Please wait for the cord to stop pulsating before cutting it unless there is a reason to cut it immediately.
• If my baby has to be taken away immediately after delivery, I wish to be keep informed of what is happening at all times and, if possible, Ryan will accompany the baby at all times.

Post Delivery
• I would like a private room, if available.
• Unless required for health reasons, I do not wish to be separated from my baby.
• If possible, I wish to have a managed third stage in order to deliver the placenta quickly.
• I would like the baby to receive a dose of Vitamin K.

Breastfeeding
• I plan to breastfeed the baby and would like to begin nursing shortly after birth. Help/guidance would be appreciated.
• Unless medically necessary, I do not wish to have any bottles given to the baby.

I will tentatively say I am up for a coffee on Friday! Hubby has the day off and is going into town for a haircut so will probably come in for a wander. She will probably spend the entire time feeding though, I feel like Daisy the cow. Just got a feeding coverup thingy though so I can test run that assuming you guys don't mind! On the plus side she gained 8oz in 5 days, is up on her birth weight and we got discharged from the midwives :)

I only had the birth plan in my hand held notes which the midwife did with me and it was pretty relaxed. 1stTimeMum33 your plan is great!

ToniOlive - welcome to the group! The time will fly, feels like yesterday I was squinting at very faint lines on a test trying to decide if I was pregnant or not :D
