Hi,

Yeah feeling a bit better, think I was just run down and the lack of sleep wasn't helping.

Slightly OT question...when do we get to go look round the hospital? I have my ante-natal classes at Jessops from 20th Oct, will it be during one of those or is it something you arrange separately?

I can't see any major issue with me having Friday afternoon off, so if any-one else wants to join us for aqua-natal or a coffee post 2pm shout up! :-D

Think lack of sleep was my main problem too last week.

Re hospital tour, I think Fiona mentioned that jessops have stopped doing them?

Btw finish work on Thursday. Yipppeeeeeee!!

Yep - Jessops don't do tours anymore - they just ask you to watch a video on their website which shows the labour ward. I'll see if I can find the link.

On another Jessops topic, I was talking to the Matron for level 3 there (I put in a complaint about my stay) and she mentioned that she's managed to get the go ahead for some free pick up parking spaces for people coming to pick up women and their babies to go home - it should be a major improvement on the current arrangements!

Here's the page with the video on:

If you get a midwife called Maeve doing your antenatal classes then be prepared for lots of amateur dramatics - she'll want to spend half the time acting out labour!

We also found the first day (we did it over a weekend) was just a load of wishy washy nonsense that was of no help - but day 2 was better. Although again she insisted on lots of unnecessary stuff, so she barely got round to changing nappies and she didn't have time for how to bath baby - which were the 2 things everyone on the course wanted covered.

I would also recommend you ask about caesareans, because they don't cover them at all, even though 25% of women having first babies at Jessops end up having them.

This was exactly what happened with our antenatal classes with Maeve as well. She spent the majority of the time trying to win an Oscar for best contraction and waffling on about things that weren't nevessary. Consequently, she never covered what happens if you have to have a caesarean (I found those numbers on the white board pretty scary) or have to be induced. And she whizzed through medicated pain relief and feeding.

We did manage to cover nappy changing and bathing because one of our sessions was taken by a different midwife called Rachel who was soooo much better.

Thanks for the link!

My antenatal class is at esporta-hopefully it will be run by someone else as I'm not in to dramatics at all!

That's good news! Anyone else fancy joining us for coffee?

I'm 36 weeks on Thursday, time seems to be flying by now :)

Let me know if you're coming tomorrow night & if u want to share a lift

Xx

Well we will be at aquanatal 1.15-2.00 so by the time we've got ready again i imagine it'll be about 230?
Not sure where-Rachel do u want to suggest somewhere? Maybe botanical gardens cafe as it's close by?

I didn't think to ask about CS, but I ended up having one and in hindsight it would have been nice for it to have been covered at the parentcraft classes. She briefly covered induction, but in a really half-arsed way. She wasn't going to cover it, but she happened to ask if anyone had gestational diabetes. I was the only one who had, so she did seem to make an effort to mention how things can be different if induced - however she singled me out and spoke specifically to me every time she did this. It made me feel like a leper - any woman in that room might have needed inducing!

I told the Matron that it was like she was going for an Oscar as well - it was obviously news to her how ridiculous it was - everyone just spent the whole class laughing whilst she acted out her labour!

I don't mind where we go, have never been to the botanical cafe, if its parking/pram friendly I'd say give it a shot. If not Costa on Berkeley Sq could be good for parking/prams as it has an inbuilt free car park.

I don't mind where we go as I have the afternoon off YIPEE!

Think it is pram friendly but parking is just where u can get parked on the road around there.
I'm fine with costa but I'm not sure where sw121 is from. Where is easy for u to get to?

sws1 - If you fancy aqua-natal as well your more than welcome, no need to book just turn up, they have a midwife and people to look after babies on the side. Its £3.80 at King Edwards.
