Stop been so cheap!

Maybe first you should work on getting all the lazy bums off job seekers so there's more taxes and more money going into the NHS? Lets face it, not everyone using the NHS pays into it and that puts a massive strain on them.

and to add to this, not all the tax you pay goes into the NHS, it covers ALOT of different areas like education, benefits etc, not just the NHS

The NHS is there to provide healthcare for every single person, we pay a very very low cost for this, if you want better it's simple, go private and stop moaning, that option is always there

We can always say we want better this or better than from the government.Problem is things just keep getting worse and i cant see that changing in the forseeable future.

In the meantime, im justgald i recieve what i do.

In an ideal world, no matter where you lived in the world, no matter what your ailment, we would all recieve adequate care x But its not an ideal world at all :(

Post #158 (I can't quote such a long post on my phone):

"Constantly fails us" - are you serious?? Do you read The Daily Mail??

How many lives do you think the NHS saves every day? Your views have certainly been warped if this is really what you think of the NHS.

Like I said in my post that you have quoted, it's certainly not infallible but on a "what we get for what we pay" basis it's pretty bloody amazing!!! I couldn't cover the costs in THREE lifetimes for what it has done for my daughter!

Oh, I never said it was free either!!

My views are not warped, they are very much informed.
I don't doubt that those working within the NHS (in the majority of cases) do their best to provide excellent care, but it is not as great as everyone suggests considering the amount of taxes we pay, it is not without fault, and huge failings are consistently reported left right and centre (and not just in the daily mail).
As we speak, one of my colleagues is off work caring for his daughter, because his wife has back problems, for which she is on a 6-12 month waiting list for treatment, she is bed ridden, how is that a brilliant service?

Millions of people are denied life saving drugs because the NHS will not provide them.
Every single day there are posts on this forum about women who fail to receive adequate maternity care.
People are regularly turfed out of hospitals due to lack of beds, or leave hospital more sick due to poor hygiene.
My nearest hospital has one of the highest infant mortality rate in the country, but I am supposed to be thankful because it is free???
I have had two scans, both were delayed by over a month because there were no appointments available sooner, same for my midwife appointments, where I am marched in and out in under 5 minutes and I thank my lucky stars I am not a first time mother, because then I truly would despair.

Perhaps if people took notice of the apparent issues, and fought for change, we would see our health services improve. I cannot understand anyones blind acceptance of what it is, because it might be a bit better than another country, or some people get no health care so who are we to complain? Those kind of attitudes perpetrate bad service, and hold up the evolution of change that is MUCH needed in the NHS.

I am proud to be British, but that doesn't mean I don't strive for my country to be better, and it doesn't mean I should not believe it CAN be better, but you can bet it won't ever get better unless people demand it!

This is about anti natel care though and scans ? I know these things always go off topic even I slightly did but its about the amount of scans and care woman receive which is different in all areas evidently.

wait till all the cuts the new government have made to the NHS kick in ...... then you will realise how good we have it!

Buttonnose

My point exactly,we think we have it bad but i cant see it getting any better

Agree I have gone off topic - will pipe down now. Am just very passionate about this because myself and my family HAVE been failed by te NHS, and I have also lived in another country where the health care was much much better, so it is difficult not to compare and feel bitter.

RE more scans, they are provided as required in most cases, "as required" being the operative word. No one needs to have one a month, it is not being cheap, just practical.

you could use your handbag 'health in pregnancy' grant for an extra scan or two :D

Alot of people do!!

so they should, i have seen loads of people literally spending it on A changing bag... bonkers:dohh:

That's just so potty!

My MW took my hand and said 'you are to spend it on GOOD food for you and your baby, keep you both healthy, you can afford it with this money.

I was fucking livid, I said 'Me and my OH bring in around 90K a year between us, we dont live on Basics Beans'.

I must just look like a pauper or something??

I disagree with this thread completely I'm sorry...
Yes I wish i got more scans to check how my baby's doing but atleast we get healthcare.
We dont have to rely on paying health insurance and medical bills.
Dont get me wrong it annoys me that I go to work and pay my NI contributions to then be told I have to pay for prescriptions when people that slack off on benefits get it all free.... but thats one of the wonders of the NHS. The people that can afford it get what they want, the people that cant atleast get what they need.
Most other countries would leave you with a bone sticking out your leg if you didnt have health insurance.

At the end of the day we have the option for extra private scans if we want to pay, but 2 is the neccessary amount for a normal pregnancy, and if there are problems they dont hesitate to give you more if thats whats needed. I'm grateful for that atleast x

in what respect? i think people who lived 100 years ago may disagree with that statement.

I dont mind that I pay for 'slackers' precriptions - if someone has ill health then they should be treated for it, regardless of if they can pay or not. Who the fuck am I to bitch at someone if they can pay for their medicines or not?

I never realised how amazing the NHS was until i got pregnant and had a baby. They have been absolutely fantastic, i cannot actually fault them in anyway and look foward to having another baby one day in their care.

To say the NHS is 'constantly failing us' is something of an overstatement don't you think? I appreciate you've obviously had a bad experience but many people have not, i have had lifesaving surgery, as did my father recently and yes there were some issues with his care but at the end of the day he is still here and i am eternally grateful for that. They also didn't fail me when my ds was in distress and stuck and i had a c section. I was admitted due to bleeding recently and the care i recieved was great. I'm sure people in other paying countries have also had issues with the care they recieved, no system is infallible, but we have access to medical care and thats more than alot of countries have and whether people think that is relevant or not, it puts things in perspective.

I got 4 scans, but 2 extra had to be done. I'm grateful for what I got and if it wasn't for our system here in Australia and I had to pay for those two extra scans at the end, I might not have bothered as I would have thought all was well. My baby was footling breech and it was missed all through midwife appts and all so if I had gone into natural labor my LO might not be here now or I could have even bled to death trying to deliver him naturally. So I am extremely grateful for what I got for free as I don't have much money and paying for extra would have been a stretch :( I hate to think what could have happened if we didn't have the healthcare system we have now and I didn't get those last scans.
Wow hunni glad things turn out ok. Like i said ive been very happy with my public healthcare in pregnancyin Aus. I dont think we in the western world can even fathom how lucky we arecompared to developing countries.

Yes, I was lucky and we are fortunate to live in such a great country with a good healthcare system. Wow you have gotten so much further along since last time we spoke  Hope everything is going OK for you hun and congrats on your wedding!

I'm really sorry to be the spelling and grammar police but after 20 pages I can't stand it any more - it's BEING, "stop BEING cheap" ;) ;)

Sorry -lol

Exactly people 100 years ago didnt get it half as good as we do now.

What im saying tho is the government just gets more and more greedy and things dont seem to be getting any better.

But ive said all along we should be very thankful fro what we have, rather than complaining it should be better.

And people living now in third word countries dont have access to what we do, nevermind people living 100 years ago
