i have a scan in a few hours and i have to have a full bladder but i have to drink water and thats impossible for me lol, ive taken like 3 sips of water and i feel like i am going to vomit.
why can't i just drink juice?

Because juice has pigment in it hon which can mess with the equipment!

How long is it actually until your scan? I'd wait until your only an hour away or so, or even less, and then just chug a bottle of water Otherwise, you'll have to pee before you even get there!

still got an hour an a half to go, leaving home in half an hour though.

i thought they would do an internal scan because i am so early i dont see why i even need a full bladder for an internal

Personally, I have had 5 ultrasounds and only for the 3d one was it suggested that I have a full bladder. Given, one was an emergancy scan, but I had in fact just emptied my bladder anyway! Actually, i've been asked to empty my bladder at almost everyone of my scans.

my earliest one was at 10 weeks I think, and it was an internal. Didnt have a full bladder for that.

Desi, I think it may actually vary almost by country. I've had to have my bladder empty for both my ultrasounds. However, a lot of the girls from the UK, New Zealand, etc, have said that they need to have full bladders.

Very odd!

I have to start drinking my 4-5 8oz cups of water too!!
I hope I can manage holding it that long!
My dr said it's necessary for a full bladder so they can see the development of the baby more clearly or something like that!
Well,
Good Luck!

It must be...I wonder if there is truly any difference?

At 20 weeks his.baby.momma? Wow, that's really bizarre! Baby is plenty big then!

we can't drink water out of the tap at the moment due to the big earthquake we had last week so im drinking the only water we had left in the whole town its some fiji water tastes funky lol

Ya, the ultrasounds have to be for "necessary reasoning" as if finding out the sex isn't necessary! They usually give the ultrasound for like 18-20 weeks and I got the 20 weeks to determine all the limbs and body is growing properly. I think it may be my dr. personal choice or my insurance...either way i've been waiting foreverr!!!!

My 20 week ultrasound was the only one I was told to have a full bladder for. My first at 10 weeks was internal so there was no need for a full bladder.

My first ultrasound wasn't until 20 weeks either. It's just odd to me that you need a full bladder. It's not like at 12 weeks when they're still bitty little things, at 20 weeks they're pretty baby-ish!

They told me to have a full bladder...but I never really did, just drank a little before going and it didn't actually make any difference! xx

I had that problem.. it was an hour before my 12 week scan and must of drank to quickly and threw if all back up.. then i didn't feel like having a drink after that. i had a quick sip of water before i went in.
i don't think it matters to much really (:

I got told off at my 10 week scan for not having a full bladder and I had to have one for my 20 week scan too. I wasnt told not to drink juice though, thats what I drank, I dont think it has to be water as long as your bladder is full since any colours in it are filtered out by your body by the time it gets to your bladder! xxx

I had a scan at 5+4, they tried external first but baby was obviously too small so had an internal. I didn't have a full bladder.

I had a full bladder for my 12 week scan, but didn't drink water beforehand. x
